Re: [AI] Urgent help needed regarding iPhone 3GS

2010-07-03 Thread Manish Agrawal
Hi Subramani,
I also tried using say text with my IPhone 3gs but never get it to click
automatically. I am using the following instructions:
Place the phone in about the middle of the page and lift it slowly up until
the entire page is in focus and the program will automatically click a
picture of the page.
This never seems to happen in my case. There is also the option of clicking
manually. When I do a manual click, I inevitably shake the phone and the
picture comes out blurred and the OCR is not really clean.
Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong? Are you using the same steps? --
If the answer to these is RTFM, then please say so because I haven't
really read through any manual yet for this.

Also, if it does work for you, approximately how far is your phone from the
page (full sized A4) when the picture is clicked?

As for your questions on Voice over, Kiran has already answered those in the
thread below -- except that based on the say text website, this program
should work with 3gs as well and not just with IPhone 4.

Hey all:

Good news is that I have just tested Say Text in iPhone 3Gs. It works
perfectly well. I need some practicve with the touch screen; otherwise
the app works pretty well. Even the accuracy of the text is quite good.
I was told that iPhone 3GS with 16 GB space should cost somewhere in
the region of 23 to 25 thousand. iPhone 3Gs with 32 GB space costs Rs
40,000.

Let me try and clarify a few points here:

1. iPhone 3G (which is still available in India) is not accessible at
all.
So, just forget about.

2. iPhone 3GS is also available in India and it has VoiceOver and Zoom
functionality. VoiceOver is a full-fledged screen reader and provides
access
to most of the built-in apps and third-party apps. It does not provide
limited access.

3. As far as I am aware, SayText may only work with the new iPhone 4 and
not
with any other models. I may be wrong but I don't thing the camera on
the
3GS and 3G is sufficient for OCR.

Look at www.maccessibility.net for reviews of the iPhone 3GS.

Kiran

Folks:

Am just about to check out Say Text and do a small review cum report for
my newspaper. However, am told that Voice Over is not fully functional
on iPhone 3GS.

1. Is it true that VoiceOver works only to get some contacts and
operate music in iPhone 3Gs bought in India?
2. If not, pl let me know how best I or anyone buying iPhone 3GS
in India can make the best use of VoiceOver and by extension Say Text.
Quick response is appreciated since I need to do it faster.

[AI] hearty congratulations to mr. karan singhania

2010-07-03 Thread mukesh jain
hello,
if you remember some time back i have posted the message that one of
our list member mr. karan singhania has secured 92.4% in his 12th
standard from cbse board. now, in continuance of his success, he has
been able to get admission in one of the top most colege for commerce
in our country i.e. sriram colege of commerce situated in new delhi.
so i do express my hearty congratulations for his yet another great
success.

to reward his great success, i would like to express my feelings with
following few lines:
MAY YOU ALWAYS FEEL LOVED
May you find serenity and tranquility in a world
You may not always understand.
May the pain you have known and conflict you have experienced
Give you the strength to walk through life
Facing each new situation with courage and optimism.
Always know that there are those whose love and understanding
Will always be there, even when you feel most alone.
May you discover enough goodness in others
To believe in a world of peace.
May a kind word, a reassuring touch, a warm smile be yours
Every day of your life,
And may you give these gifts as well as receive them.
Remember the sunshine when the storm seems unending.
Teach love to those who know hate,
And let that love embrace you as you go into the world.
May the teaching of those you admire become part of you,
So that you may call upon them.
Remember, those whose lives you have touched
And who have touched yours are always a part of you,
Even if the encounters were less than you would have wished.
It is the content of the encounter that is more important than it's form.
May you not become too concerned with material matters,
But instead place immeasurable value on the goodness in your heart.
Find time in each day to see the beauty and love in the world around you.
Realize that each person has limitless abilities,
But each of us is different in our own way.
What you may feel you lack in one regard
May be more than compensated for in another.
What you feel you lack in the present
May become one of your strengths in the future.
May you see your future as one filled with promise and possibility.
Learn to view everything as a worthwhile experience.
May you find enough inner strength to determine your own worth by yourself,
And not be dependent on another’s judgment of your accomplishments.
May you always feel loved.
I have always loved this poem because it beautifully expresses my
wishes for you.

may god bance him lots of success, happiness and prosperity in his
life. i wish him all the best.
thanks,

[AI] Safely remove pen drive

2010-07-03 Thread Vicky Singh
Dear List members,

Given below is an extract from an earlier email from AI.
Hope you find it useful.

Regards

VS

If you often use removable USB devices like a flash drive, you are
probably already familiar with the ?Safely Remove Hardware? icon that
sits in the system tray. The problem for many people is that the icon
is tiny, and clicking it just right to bring up the menu is a pain.
Can?t we just make a shortcut to bring up the dialog?

Of course you can, and it?s really quite easy. Easier than trying to
click the tiny icon in the tray, at least?

Update: This has been successfully tested on Windows 7 as well.

Create a Shortcut to the Safely Remove Hardware Dialog

Right-click anywhere on the desktop and choose New \ Shortcut:

Then paste in the following into the location box:

block quote
RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll

block quote end

Give it a name, and you?ll have a shortcut icon?

?that will pull up the Safely Remove Hardware dialog.

Assign a Shortcut Key

If you want to assign a shortcut key to this dialog, you can
right-click the icon and open the properties dialog, then go to the
Shortcut tab.

Add in the shortcut key and close the dialog. As long as the shortcut
is on your desktop you shouldn?t have to restart anything for the
hotkey to work.
You can also move the shortcut to another folder, for instance your
quick launch bar.

Tip: If you add the shortcut to the Windows Vista quick launch bar,
you can use the built-in hotkeys instead of bothering to assign one
manually.

I tested sending an email to myself and experienced the same behavior as
mentioned in my previous email. Try sending tesstt emails to self at
different timings and let me know the sent/receive timings. Maybem that
helps figure out the cause of such a weird behavior.

Re: [AI] excel protection

2010-07-03 Thread BHAWANI SHANKAR VERMA

here is the solution, i tried.
1. open new worksheet.
2. select all by pressing ctrl+a.
3. press ctrl+1, and go to protection tab. uncheck the box lock cell. press
ok to confirm your action.
4. finish your entire working with excel sheet.
5. go to those particular cells which you want to protect and lock them
individually, as unlocked earlier in point no.3.
6. open the toolsprotectprotect worksheet. if you don't want to give
password, leave the password blank. leave

the next check box in checked status. press tab, now you will land on list
box. in this list use up and down arrow keys to move through check boxes.
the first check box lock cells and the second check box unlock cells
should be checked. press ok to confirm your action. you all done.
please take note that once a sheet is protected, user is allowed only to
jump in to the unlocked cells. even a screen reader user can not access
locked cells. but, sighted user can see it on screen. i tried these settings
with office xp and 2003. i don't use office 2007, because i am able to open
office 2007 files with office xp.
let me know the result, please.

[AI] demat account for someone who uses thumbprint

2010-07-03 Thread Shrirang Sahasrabudhe
Hi,
I have been told by ICICI that I can not open an online trading account with
them. Because I use thumbprint for legal and financial transactions.
They have also mentioned that SEBI has not given any specific instructions on
how to open a demat account for a visually challenged person.
I am already having a salary account with ICICI.
I believe RBI has now allowed to open a demat account of a person who uses
thumbprint instead of signature.
Is anyone here having online trading account and uses thumbprint?
Thanks

Re: [AI] about NVDA

2010-07-03 Thread Srinivasu Chakravarthula
Hi Raju,

Yes, NVDA can be used to surf the internet. To view links and Headings in a
list box, use Insert + F7, it's called Elements list box. Once you revoke
the elements list, it has three tab sheets; links, headings and ARIA land
marks. You can switch between them using Tab and then left and arrow keys,
alternatively, use Alt + H for headings and Ald + D for ARIA land marks.

Feel free to contact me for any additional help.

to reward his great success, i would like to express my feelings with
 following few lines:
I have always loved this poem because it beautifully expresses my
 wishes for you.

may god bance him lots of success, happiness and prosperity in his
life. i wish him all the best.

yes i do believe that disabled friends, especially visually challengved
 must enter politics.
only then we could see a much more meaningfull laws being framed. in
our state at present we could see many changes in the outlook of the
 government towards the differently abled.
and that's because of a person with multyple disability
i hope everyone could understand this.

Now, a car for the blind

London, July 2, 2010

PTI

Scientists are inching closer to develop a special car, which can be driven
by blind motorists.

The unique car, expected to be built as early as next year, will be equipped
with a new technology that would help a sightless person to get behind the
wheel.

The technology, called non-visual interfaces, will guide its driver through
traffic by transmitting information about nearby vehicles or objects.

Vibrating gloves or streams of compressed air directed behind the wheel are
among the options for communicating the information needed to avoid
collisions and reach a destination.

The National Federation of the Blind of the U.S. and Virginia Tech, which
are jointly developing the car, said they hope to demonstrate a prototype of
the car in 2011, the Telegraph reported.

“We’re exploring areas that have previously been regarded as unexplorable,”
said Dr. Mark Maurer, president of the National Federation of the Blind.

“We’re moving away from the theory that blindness ends the capacity of human
beings to make contributions to society.”

Mr. Maurer first came up with the idea that the blind could drive about a
decade ago when he launched the organisation’s research institute.

“Some people thought I was crazy, and they thought, ‘Why do you want us to
raise money for something that can’t be done?’ Others thought it was a great
idea,” Dr. Maurer said.

“Some people were incredulous. Others thought the idea was incredible.”

The vehicle is based in Virginia Tech’s 2007 entry into the DARPA Grand
Challenge, a competition for driverless vehicles financed by the Defence
Department’s research arm.

The blind organisation was impressed by the invention, saying it is part of
a broader mission, which will change the way people perceive the blind.

Mark Riccobono, executive director of The NFB’s Jernigan Institute, said:
“This will change when people see that we can do something that they thought
was impossible.”

but as has been said, it would be the Indian authorities, and their

Re: [AI] demat account for someone who uses thumbprint

2010-07-03 Thread amarnath de

Hi,
It is not true that, you cannot open a demat account because, you use thumb
impression for financial transaction. But you have to verify your thumb
impression by the notary.

I have a demat account with Indiinfoline bank. I am using it from more than
last one year. I believe that, ICICI bank will also open any demat account
for blind. Your branch may not no about sebi guidelines. I don't know where
do you live. If you live in Delhi then you can contact me off the list
through my mobile 9868754148. I will be happy to help you.

Regards.

Subject: [AI] demat account for someone who uses thumbprint

Hi,
I have been told by ICICI that I can not open an online trading account
with them. Because I use thumbprint for legal and financial transactions.
They have also mentioned that SEBI has not given any specific instructions
on how to open a demat account for a visually challenged person.

I am already having a salary account with ICICI.
I believe RBI has now allowed to open a demat account of a person who uses
thumbprint instead of signature.

Is anyone here having online trading account and uses thumbprint?
Thanks
Shrirang

To add to what was said, pretty much all the keystrokes that work with

Re: [AI] Is it time for persons with disability to enter politics?

2010-07-03 Thread harish

Hello

I think, one should have a long term strategy. One should start from the
grass root and this way your credibility would be established and you would
also build up a team of committed persons around you.

I am glad we have Sudha Patel amidst us who is doing just that.

I think it would be wrong to say that Jamuna prasad shastri has not
fought and not spoken about the rights of the disables.

Probably you don't know, but he has started the blind school at the
most backward region of the madhya Pradesh, and the same school is
still flourishing and imparting the education for so many blinds in
state of MP.

I've got the opportunity to listen his speech, and I have done most of
my schooling from his school.
He passed away in 1997.

As far as election is concern, I think we should start fighting from
our constituency's right from the next elections.
Except this, we should also demand the seats in lok sabha as well. If
the Anglo Indian community is getting the representation in lok sabha
through nomination, why not our community as well?
Prepare the representation in this regard; I'm taking the
responsibility of signature campaign in Delhi.
Ask for the nomination, only and only then we'll be able to influence
the policies which are made for us and influence us.
Thanks,
Akhilesh.

But Subramani,

A person with disabilitty who steps into politics and hopes to be
elected
will need to think beyond his or her disability. He needs to be
relevant
to all in the community. He or she will need to understand the issues
that
the community faces. He or she will need to champion the cause of the
community, only then would votes come by.

Likewise, for us to be included or be a real part of the families,
communities we live in, we need to also start thinking

family/community

and
not just be thinking disability.

If we start doing what we can do for our community, then the

community

will
open its arms to embrace us.

If we need to succeed in politics, we need to think community and not
just
disability. Having said all this, when we get elected or get into a
position of influence, we mustn't forget the issues pertaining to
disability.

So... There are no elected MPs to the Lok Sabvha who acknowledge their
disability in public and speak for the community. The one whose
disability we know about is more an MP got in through the backdoor to
Rajya Sabha from the state legislature. David Cameron perhaps gave

this

syndrome and is abreast of the issues affecting disability. When

people

are not even acknowledging their own disabilities, it is rather
difficult to count them as politicians with disability; least said

surmise there are none with disability -or- at lest there are none

I would explore a few suggestions/solutions. I am sure the crop of
