Re: [AI] demat account for someone who uses thumbprint

2010-07-04 Thread prateek aggarwal
Its indeed possible for a blind person to open and operate demat
account with thumb impression.
We have NSDL and CDSL circulars available for this which clearly state the same.

Both the NSDL circular and CDSL communiqué are available on my website
which can be downloaded by anyone who wish to get these.

Interested folks can go to my website at

and find the circulars in “circulars, orders and guidelines section”.

 Hi,
It is not true that, you cannot open a demat account because, you use thumb
impression for financial transaction. But you have to verify your thumb
 impression by the notary.

I have a demat account with Indiinfoline bank. I am using it from more than
last one year. I believe that, ICICI bank will also open any demat account
for blind. Your branch may not no about sebi guidelines. I don't know where
do you live. If you live in Delhi then you can contact me off the list

  Hi,
I have been told by ICICI that I can not open an online trading account
with them. Because I use thumbprint for legal and financial transactions.
They have also mentioned that SEBI has not given any specific instructions
on how to open a demat account for a visually challenged person.
I am already having a salary account with ICICI.
I believe RBI has now allowed to open a demat account of a person who uses

Is anyone here having online trading account and uses thumbprint?

Teacher with a feel for Earth
Staff Reporter · T+

P.T. Mohammed Musthafa, a teacher at the Government Vocational Higher
Secondary School, Meenchanda, has never seen the Earth or soaked up
its splendour. But, this visually challenged man has guided thousands
of students through the planet's geographical contours with his
specially moulded Braille-globe and atlas. For the past seven years,
Mr. Musthafa has been depending on these aides to teach students.

Students' help

The 35-year-old, hailing from Nallalam here, modifies globes and
atlases with the help of his students. Together they emboss Braille
scripts on transparent pieces of adhesive tapes pasted on the surfaces
of globes and atlases. With the help of students, he also marks out
the frontiers of each continent with thin threads. This helps him to
locate the areas and handle classes confidently.

“Lack of eyesight can never limit the freedom of a teacher if the
supportive aides are appropriately used,” says Musthafa, who has been
teaching for the past 12 years. “Many visually impaired teachers still
depend on usual models and maps available in the market, which they
are not at all comfortable with,” he adds.

The Social Science Club, headed by Mr. Musthafa, is now on a mission
to craft more such atlases and globes for the benefit of visually
challenged teachers.

The club is undertaking the effort without charging extra. “To reduce
cost, we collect globes and atlases from clients. It takes only an
hour to design a globe perfectly. We will take orders from schools and
colleges till July 15,” he says.

“We never feel that he is visually challenged. His classes arouse our
curiosity in the subject,” says K. P. Arya and Anagha Devan, Class IX
students of the school.

S T

Technology

Now, a car for the blind

London, July 2, 2010

PTI

Scientists are inching closer to develop a special car, which can be
driven
by blind motorists.

The unique car, expected to be built as early as next year, will be
equipped
with a new technology that would help a sightless person to get behind
the
wheel.

The technology, called non-visual interfaces, will guide its driver
through
traffic by transmitting information about nearby vehicles or objects.

Vibrating gloves or streams of compressed air directed behind the wheel
are
among the options for communicating the information needed to avoid
collisions and reach a destination.

The National Federation of the Blind of the U.S. and Virginia Tech,
which
are jointly developing the car, said they hope to demonstrate a
prototype of
the car in 2011, the Telegraph reported.

We're exploring areas that have previously been regarded as
unexplorable,
said Dr. Mark Maurer, president of the National Federation of the Blind.

We're moving away from the theory that blindness ends the capacity of
human
beings to make contributions to society.

Mr. Maurer first came up with the idea that the blind could drive about
a
decade ago when he launched the organisation's research institute.

Some people thought I was crazy, and they thought, 'Why do you want us
to
raise money for something that can't be done?' Others thought it was a
great
idea, Dr. Maurer said.

Some people were incredulous. Others thought the idea was incredible.

The vehicle is based in Virginia Tech's 2007 entry into the DARPA Grand
Challenge, a competition for driverless vehicles financed by the Defence
Department's research arm.

The blind organisation was impressed by the invention, saying it is part
of
a broader mission, which will change the way people perceive the blind.

Mark Riccobono, executive director of The NFB's Jernigan Institute,
said:
This will change when people see that we can do something that they
thought
was impossible.

I also tried using say text with my IPhone 3gs but never get it to click

Place the phone in about the middle of the page and lift it slowly up
until
the entire page is in focus and the program will automatically click a
picture of the page.
This never seems to happen in my case. There is also the option of
clicking
manually. When I do a manual click, I inevitably shake the phone and the
picture comes out blurred and the OCR is not really clean.
Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong? Are you using the same steps?
--
If the answer to these is RTFM, then please say so because I haven't
really read through any manual yet for this.

Also, if it does work for you, approximately how far is your phone from
the
page (full sized A4) when the picture is clicked?

As for your questions on Voice over, Kiran has already answered those in
the
thread below -- except that based on the say text website, this program
should work with 3gs as well and not just with IPhone 4.

I was told that iPhone 3GS with 16 GB space should cost somewhere in

Let me try and clarify a few points here:

1. iPhone 3G (which is still available in India) is not accessible at
all.
So, just forget about.

2. iPhone 3GS is also available in India and it has VoiceOver and Zoom

limited access.

3. As far as I am aware, SayText may only work with the new iPhone 4 and
not
with any other models. I may be wrong but I don't thing the camera on
the

Look at www.maccessibility.net for reviews of the iPhone 3GS.

Vibrating gloves or streams of compressed air directed behind the
wheel are
among the options for communicating the information needed to avoid
 collisions and reach a destination.

The National Federation of the Blind of the U.S. and Virginia Tech,
which
are jointly developing the car, said they hope to demonstrate a
prototype of
the car in 2011, the Telegraph reported.

We're exploring areas that have previously been regarded as
unexplorable,
said Dr. Mark Maurer, president of the National Federation of the
Blind.

We're moving away from the theory that blindness ends the capacity of
human
beings to make contributions to society.

Mr. Maurer first came up with the idea that the blind could drive
about a
decade ago when he launched the organisation's research institute.

Some people thought I was crazy, and they thought, 'Why do you want
us to
raise money for something that can't be done?' Others thought it was a
great
 idea, Dr. Maurer said.

Some people were incredulous. Others thought the idea was
incredible.

The vehicle is based in Virginia Tech's 2007 entry into the DARPA
Grand
Challenge, a competition for driverless vehicles financed by the
Defence
 Department's research arm.

The blind organisation was impressed by the invention, saying it is
part of
a broader mission, which will change the way people perceive the
blind.

Mark Riccobono, executive director of The NFB's Jernigan Institute,
said:
This will change when people see that we can do something that they
thought
 was impossible.

The software name is My Studio PC.

You can get a license of the software by sending a request to
i...@saksham.org.

It is a licensed software provided free of cost in developing countries by
JSRPD.

Another good software for recording is OBI. It is an open source software.
It is completely accessible with screen readers since the lead developer
is

himself a person with blindness fromIndia itself.

You will not need any special scripting and it wil work open source screen
reading software such as NVDA.

You can not only ask for these software from Saksham trust but also for
some training if you need it.

Thanks

[AI] Difference Between IPhone, Smart Phone, 3 G S and 4 g Phones, Apple Phone and Windows Mobile

Dear learned friends, Although we have been reading a lot about the modern

my following queries about the above mentioned types of latest mobile
handsets:--
1. how do the windows mobile, 3 G and 3 G S phones, IPhones and Smart Phones
differ from one an other? I mean is it only the brand name or some extra
features which differentiate them?

2. Are all these touch screen phones? if yes, what is the position of their

3. Which one is the best out of all these high-tech mobiles and why?

4. Are all of them available in India? if yes, what is their approximate price
range?

5. How far are their advanced features supported by Indian service providers?

6. Given the present scenario, what can be the specific reasons for a V I
person to switch over from a normal mobile to these advanced handsets?
A detailed and point by point reply would be highly appreciated. Thanks in

2010-07-04 Thread Subramani L
They are essentially different platforms. Most Nokia phones work on s60,
while phones on Google Android ()S) are also available. Apple has its
own OS and software to run iPhone. If you look at too deeply, they are
also said to represent different approaches to delivering and accessing
content. Apple for instance provides applications and multimedia content
for download, while Google's Android takes the approach of accessing
content stored online. S60, meanwhile, also seem to follow the deviced
based approach.

2010-07-04 Thread Amit Bhatt

Nokia C5 is a newly launched model in the market.
I understand from it's technical specifications that it should work with
Talks and Mobile Speak as well.
C5 is expected to be listed in the list of handset of Nuance Website very
soon. The current MRP of this model is around 8500 in INR.

You can also think buying it.

 Many thanks.

Hello,

If you want to check your broadband usage, you can do it free from your
bsnl mobile. First, register yourself by sending an sms like this:

REG 03325255876
and send it to 52295.
You have to register your phone number once. You will receive a welcome
message soon.

From then onwards, you can check your metered units and free limit at any
time by sending an sms like this:

BBU 03325255876
and send it to the same number.

Only replace the sample phone numbers above with the telephone number
where you are using broadband.

Well, That is a far cry still, and it by no way warrants proclaiming our

However, I do not see a possibility when I, like her mother will be driving her

As far as substituting sight with technical means concerned, forget it, because

And, perfect substitution or relay of visual information in real time is what

Don't forget about reaction time. delay of even half a second may have fatal

body, and yet you think that you can do anything with
that body that's dirty, then the fault lies with the manufacturer.

interesting development, but i am afraid this is just going to be a
showpiece.
with increasing accidents even with sighted people, i don't know how
this car will perform on the road when a blind person would be driving
the same.

objects and bumps on the road are the hurdles and i don't know how
will they be overcome.
anyway, interesting knowing about it.

Now, a car for the blind

 London, July 2, 2010

Scientists are inching closer to develop a special car, which can be
driven
 by blind motorists.

The unique car, expected to be built as early as next year, will be
equipped
with a new technology that would help a sightless person to get behind
the
 wheel.

The technology, called non-visual interfaces, will guide its driver
through
traffic by transmitting information about nearby vehicles or objects.
