Re: [AI] what is digitization of TV channels?

2012-04-01 Thread Mujtaba Merchant
They are trying and pushing this down our throats in Bangalore too. A fee of
1200 is charged per set up box instalation. A monthly fee of 250 is service
charge per set up box. Since we have a large family with indipendant
accomodation, every room has a TV, a total of 5 in number. And if we want cable
for all the TV's we end up paying 1250 per month just for cable!

The bread winner of the house has decided just 2 connections need be active,
all the other TV's can catch dust and go to cable heaven. Anyway, I am not that
concerned about it, for obvious reasons...

I start my day by reading Biz standard. I had registered on it couple

They send you the mail with headlines as link navigation is easy and
fast readings allow deep understanding of the topics.

So simply register and look for relevant services like daily news

Happy reading

2012-04-01 Thread Mujtaba Merchant
Hello Mahesh,

Sorry for the delayed reply. Did you also try some system maintainence tools?
What I mean is disk defragmenter, registry cleaners etc. The disk defragcan be
found under Accessories, System Tools from start programs. Also try CC Cleaner
for registry clean up, it is accessible too. Check your temp folder, in the run
dialog box type %temp% and check in the folder if flooded with temp files. If
yes, select all and shift delete, note hear sometimes it may not delete all
files as some might still be in use.

Also do a disk check, in the run dialog box type dskchk and hit enter. This
will take some time but will check all your hard disk drives for any errors and
correct them in the process. Hope I was able to help you to some extent, my
knowledge of the Windows Vista and 7 OS is very limited.

  Hello friends.
I have a problem with my windows vista 32 bits acer aspire 4930
laptop. The machine has a core2duo processor with 3 gb ram. AOtherwise
the usual vista related start up delays, its been working absolutely
fine for almost 3 years now. But for the last couple of weeks, the
windows explorer has gone slow in opening, and the context menu takes
ages to come up. the related slow down can be seen there on Microsoft
word and InternetExplorer as well, where the menus take a long time
getting activated. Interestingly, whereas in IE9 the favorits and
other menu options take time to load, Mozilla Firefox is doing fine,
although that too has problem when I try uploading something. I have
been reading stuff on the net, and have tried disabling indexing,
removing unwanted programs at start up, trying a registry editer to
speed up context menu and so on, but the problem hasn't gone away. I
have a regularly updated Kaspersky internet Security running on the
machine, and repeated scans have found no virous problem.
What could be the problem? Is there some way to deal with the issue.

2012-04-01 Thread Kakarla Nageswaraiah
I don't see any point in preferring Android over Symbian at present.
Well, Android may have some free screen readers but Symbian, too, has
a built-in voice aid or voice scheme and Nokia screen reader for some
phones. While TALKS for Symbian costs Rs. 1800/- MA for Android costs
thrice that amount. We have chatting apps like Fring and Skype; Emoze
for emailing, Mobile Download Accelerator, softwares for extracting
zip and rar files; softwares for reading word and text files, clocks,
calculators, call and voice recorders and reminders, dictionaries,
softwares for locking the phones, apps for locking or hiding files,
tools for storing and sharing files, etc. Most of them are free and
TALKS-compatible. I request the Android advocates kindly to come up
with their thoughts to defend the Android OS.

Re: [AI] ICICI opens separate salary account code for VIs

2012-04-01 Thread harish

Hi
My comments:
1 Regarding ICICI, this is their internal process. They have not denied any
service on the face of it.

2. a. Be firm in handing over the aplication and do not accept the
application back when they are refusing the application. Insist them to
reply by mail.

b. Do record the conversation when in person or on phone.
C. If you don't hear from them, send a reminder mail or in the worse case
file an RTI.

D. File a complaint with Ombudsman office of RBI
E. If you don't get a satisfactory redressal, approach the appelette body.
F. You can theraafter reach the Customer service department of RBI.
G. It is thereafter you reach the Disability Commisioner
H. If all these does not give results, file a case with court.

3 Let us understand, for any service, there is always going to a breach.
Hence, there is a redressal mechanisim in place. I agree, RBI should
moniteer its guidelines. Let us see what are the possible source of
information for it do so. It has data from Aumbudsman office, Customer
service dpartment and Department of Banking operation and development. If
there aren't sufficient complaints comming to these department, they will
not have any data to work on. So, the asumption, everything is alright.
4. Regarding SBBJ's issue, we need to persue until they remove this
discrepency. It does not work, if we keep waiting for someone to do it.
Each one is obliged to do so.

Harish
The moral of the story, we need to register complaints, follow it up and
take to its logical conclusion.

It many not be an ardous process, it is human being who interpret the laws
and hence this discrepency.

Dear Harish jee,

First, no one would give it in writing. I have seen this in many cases
where
people are denied for banking services and even for opening an account.
They

are either asked to open a joint account or are straightaway told to
approach some other bank. Some times, even producing RBI circular and IBA
guidelines doesn't yeald the desired results.

Further, I really wonder why RBI can't setup a process to monitor if
directions issued by them are really followed by the banks. If anything
happens which affects the larger community, I mean, so-called sighted
people, RBI at once initiates the action. May be, because of fear of
media

but it is silent for VI community since last four years.

If you can recall, few days back in response to one of the mails
regarding

SBI's initiative of opening accounts of VIs, I had mentioned about SBBJ's
current rules for providing banking services to VIs and had given the
link
to their ATM card application form where in Terms Condissions in
section
2.2, they clearly write Blind and Illiterates are not issued ATM card.
I

had written a formal mail to RBI's head office around October 2011, and
apprised them about difficulties faced by one of the person in availing
the
ATM pin, but nothing happened after a mail assuring me that the matter
has

been taken up with SBBJ and the rules of SBBJ are still unchanged

I have even tried suggesting people to file an RTI and ask the reason for
denial in writing but in this SBBJ case, they have replied to the RTI
application that blind are elligible to have an ATM card but when this
person aproached the branch, they denied. SBI's service Project Unhappy
is

also of no avail in this case.

Re: [AI] windows vista laptop gone slow

2012-04-01 Thread Mahesh S. Panicker
Hello Mujtaba.
Thanks a lot for the tips. I have been using CCleaner, and have used
it to clean the registry as well. As you suggested, I have emptied the
temp folder as well, but the dskchk doesn't seem to be working, when I
go to run and type chkdsk and enter on it, the response is that
windows cannot find chkdsk. Is there another way to do this? The
delete function also takes a lot of time getting activated. In
InternetExplorer and MS Office, the menus take lots of time working,
while on firefox, its just fine. ssometime, the harddisk runs quite
fast, as I could make out from the sound.
Best,

 Hello Mahesh,

Sorry for the delayed reply. Did you also try some system maintainence
tools? What I mean is disk defragmenter, registry cleaners etc. The disk
defragcan be found under Accessories, System Tools from start programs. Also
try CC Cleaner for registry clean up, it is accessible too. Check your temp
folder, in the run dialog box type %temp% and check in the folder if flooded
with temp files. If yes, select all and shift delete, note hear sometimes it
may not delete all files as some might still be in use.

Also do a disk check, in the run dialog box type dskchk and hit enter. This
will take some time but will check all your hard disk drives for any errors
and correct them in the process. Hope I was able to help you to some extent,
my knowledge of the Windows Vista and 7 OS is very limited.

[AI] PH is not eligible to appear in judiciary exam!

2012-04-01 Thread Shona Man
Friends last month Uttar Pradesh Public service commission advertised
for the recruitment of civil judge junior devision through an
advertisement. No reservation was given for physically handicapped in
this recruitment. However some of our friends file an RTI asking the
reason for the same, luckily they replied and they replied that PH is
not eligible even to appear in the examination.
Here I would to remind the members that in December Delhi conducted
exam for recruitment of civil judge where they kept 5 seats reserved
for blind/low vision, and recently in Haryana one visually handicapped
has been selected as a civil judge, more over all other states provide
reservation in PCS Judiciary exam.
Friends what to do now?

They send you the mail with headlines as link navigation is easy and
fast readings allow deep understanding of the topics.

So simply register and look for relevant services like daily news

Dear list members, I have a queery related to excel regarding rounding
up percentage.
I am not sure whether I will be able to explain it well. I therefore
will explain it giving an example. For instance if we give the formula
1. =25*15% we get 3.75.
2. =25*13% we get  3.25.

In the first example, after the decimal point, if the value is greater
than or equal to 5, I want it to be rounded up to the next digit that
is 4.

If the value is less than 5 after the decimal point, I want it to be
rounded to the previous digit that is 3 in the second example.
How do I do this? I will be grateful if some one can help me out.

For Immediate Release:

Freedom Scientific Releases New and Improved OCR Recognition Software
for JAWS and OpenBook

Today, Freedom Scientific, one of the world’s leading screen reading
and blindness product makers, has just recently developed and released
a new breakthrough in its line of products of assistive technology for
blind and visually impaired computer users.

Have you ever wanted to take OpenBook® with you at all times anywhere
you can possibly go with it? Or even better, have you always wanted to
be able to pick up a handwritten note on a piece of paper and be able
to read it instantly just like anybody else? Or maybe you are one of
those frustrated students that are inundated with printed or
handwritten material that you can’t read in or out of a classroom
setting and you have to wait even hours or days for somebody to read
to you. Maybe you are at a conference, you are given a business card
or a simple handout that is important, and you need to fill out or
read along?

Well, wish and wonder no more! Freedom Scientific now has the solution!

Due to popular demand, and numerous emails and feedback requests from
our users, Freedom Scientific has decided to step forward.

We have released a new, updated, and improved OCR recognition engine
for both, our Openbook® and JAWS® products. This bran new release
includes many new features, which include, but not limited to:

* The ability to recognize smaller type font and better recognition of
columns in sophisticated tables, which can easily be confusing to
read.
* The ability to recognize print on smaller pieces of print paper,
such as note slips or contact cards on the spot, with better print
focus and not the scanner bed or camera.
* Finally, the ability to recognize handwriting with about 85-90%
accuracy!

Yes, that’s right! Our new OCR engine has built-in support for
handwriting recognition. That means that you can either scan or place
a handwritten note from a co-worker, a spouse, or from a door, into
your camera or scanner of your choice, and Openbook® will
automatically recognize it and be able to read it with speech and / or
Braille output from your preferred synthesizer or Braille display! Not
only this. You can open a .pdf, .jpg, or .png image that someone sent
you with handwriting over the email on your computer, perform the OCR
recognition command (JAWS 13 and later only), and bingo! You will hear
the handwriting being spoken out to you or sent to your Braille
display. Please note that these new features offered by this improved
version of the OCR engine for JAWS® or OpenBook® software are only
compatible with Openbook versions later than 8.0 and JAWS version 13.0
or later. Please note users of JAWS earlier than 13.0, we will release
a version of the new OCR engine that we released with JAWS 13.0 later
this month, with the same features as the ones offered now, so you
aren’t left out on these new features! This update to the OCR engine
can work with both 32- and 64-bit operating systems.

Want some even more awesome news from our OpenBook® development team?
We have released OpenBook Mobile®, a scanning and reading solution app
for your iOS device! This means that you can use our popular scanning
and reading solution right from your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, using
VoiceOver and the camera of your device! Yes, that’s right, OpenBook®
is going mobile, and you will be able to take it anywhere you go that
you find printed material that you cannot read. You will be able to go
on a trip, be given an airport boarding pass, and you will no longer
need sighted assistance to see whether your plane was gone before you
knew it, or to see your flight information. You will be able to go to
a church service and be able to access printed booklets of hymns or
group prayers easily and independently without requesting sighted
help. Even more fantastic, you will be able to walk into a classroom
door that appears to have no one waiting with you, bump into a little
sticky note with your finger below or above the Braille marking of the
classroom number, and not have to wait so many hours and precious
study time trying to find out if the instructor canceled the class or
whatever other scheduling conflict that might have occurred with that
instructor. If you have an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, you will get it
out, snap a photo of that little sticky note, and you will be able to
find out what’s wrong quickly, independently and immediately with the

*The ability to recognize smaller type font and better recognition of
columns in sophisticated tables, which can easily be confusing to
 read.
*The ability to recognize print on smaller pieces of print paper,
such as note slips or contact cards on the spot, with better print
focus and not the scanner bed or camera.
*Finally, the ability to recognize handwriting with about 85-90%

 And
if we want cable for all the TV's we end up paying 1250 per month just

The bread winner of the house has decided just 2 connections need be

Re: [AI] what is digitization of TV channels?

2012-04-01 Thread Ekinath Khedekar
Sorry! i am digressing a bit and talking about cost and accessibility of DTH.

I purchased airtel dth and it was horribly a failure during even a
small drizzles, in fact, even when the weather was overcast.

Now about accessiblity. I think i was happier with cable operated TV
as i could flip channnels quickly and did not have to pay extra for
top up channels like neo cricket etc.

So actually cable is cheaper at least in Mumbai to be specific Kopar Khairane.

Abouot professionalism, i thought cable oerators were goonds but DTH
operators are thugs they would design their packages to maximum cash
out of your pocket (Experienced with Airtel DTH).

On my initiative they have started alerting customers and cutting
stopping the broughtcast if recharge over than continuing the service
and charging more through shrewdly designed packages.

SO be careful with Airtel DTH.

[AI] Converting word into PDF in bulk

2012-04-01 Thread Asudani, Rajesh
Friends
Is there any programme available for converting word documents
into standard PDF files in a bulk instead of doing so individually?
I would appreciate an early response as I require the same for official
purpose..

With thanks and regards
