Re: [AI] wanted information of Mr. vinod bihari who was a blind Indianpainter.

2013-02-18 Thread zoher kheriwala

Early life

Binod Behari Mukherjee was born in Behala, in the state of West Bengal, now
recently included into Kolkata (2009 onwards). He taught at Visva Bharati
University in Santiniketan.

Career
Mukherjee was born with severe eye problem, being myopic on one eye and
blind in the other, he continued to paint and do murals even after he lost
his eyesight completely following an eye operation in 1956. In 1919, he took
admission in Kala-Bhavan, the art faculty of Visva-Bharati University. He
was a student of another celebrated Indian artist Nandlal Bose, and a friend
and close associate of Ramkinkar Baij, the celebrated sculptor. In 1925, he
joined Kala Bhavan as a member of the teaching faculty. He inspired many
brilliant students over the years, notable among them are painter Jahar
Dasgupta, K.G. Subramanyan [1], Beohar Rammanohar Sinha [2], sculptor
printmaker Somnath Hore, designer Riten Majumdar and filmmaker Satyajit Ray.
In 1949, he left Kala Bhavan and joined as a curator at the Nepal Government
Museum in Kathmandu. From 1951-52, he taught at the Banasthali Vidyapith in
Rajasthan. In 1952, he along with his wife Leela, started an art training
school in Mussoorie. In 1958, he returned to Kala Bhavan, and later became
its principal. In 1979, a collection of his Bengali writings, Chitrakar was
published.

Style

His style was a complex fusion of idioms absorbed from Western modern art
and the spirituality of oriental traditions (both Indian and Far-Eastern).
Some of his works show a marked influence of Far-Eastern traditions, namely
calligraphy and traditional wash techniques of China and Japan. He took
lessons in calligraphy from travelling artists from Japan. During 1937-38 he
spend few months in Japan with artist such as Arai Kampo. Similarly he also
learnt from the Indian miniature painting in the frescoes of Mughal and
Rajput periods. Idioms of Western modern art also bore heavily upon his
style, as he is often seen to blend Cubist techniques (such as
multi-perspective and faceting of planes) to solve problems of space. Above
all, his style was celebrated and acclaimed because of the harmonious blend
he achieved out of all these different traditions. His grand murals inside
the Visva-Bharati campus are testimony to that. In 1948 he went to become
director of National Museum of Kathmandu, in Nepal. In the later years he
went to Doon valley, where he started an art school but had to discontinue
due the financial shortage.

In 1972 Mukherjee's former student at Santiniketan, filmmaker Satyajit Ray,
made a documentary film on him titled The Inner Eye. The film is an
intimate investigation of Mukherjee's creative persona and how he copes with
his blindness being a visual artist.

Mukherjee's daughter Mrinalini is also an artist.[3].

Awards and honors

In 1974, he received the Padma Vibhushan award. He was conferred with the
Deshikottama by the Visva Bharati University in 1977. He received the
Rabindra Puraskar in 1980.

2013-02-18 Thread Prashant Ranjan Verma
The epub files are accessible.
On the computer you can use Adobe Digital Editions -
http://www.adobe.com/in/products/digital-editions/download.html
On Android mobile read epub with Ideal Group Reader. Search for this app on
the Play store.
On the iPhone you can use the in-built iBooks.
You can also download Bookshare files in EPUB and read it in the browser
using the reader provided by bookshare on its website.

Hi Shireen
If you dont have programs on your machine to handle epub files do the
following
1 change the file extension from epub to zip
2 open the file with wwinzip or winrar etc
3 extract the files to a location
4 now you have either text or html files which you can open with notepad or
your browser.
hope this helps

Re: [AI] About low Vision Ais.

2013-02-18 Thread Vamshi. G
HI,

Accessibility for total blindness is uniform. But when it comes to
low vision, it differs from person to person, time to time, and
situation to situation. Also, is it 75% vision or disability? I
think its the later.

Here are a few tips:

1. For reading text books, try enlarging the text by taking photostat
copy on A3 paper. When I had 75% disability, I could read text on A3
paper.

2. For writing, use black sketch pen. It helps a lot.

3. Coming to low vision aids, there are devices available ranging
from simple magnifiers to electronic magnifiers which not only enlarge
the text but also change the colour contrast. IQ and Zoomex are a few
widely used ones.

4. There are screen magnifiers like Magic and Zoom Text for using computers.

But for all the above things, and anything else, the boy's vision
should be evaluated for suggesting the right device for his condition
and needs. Where is the boy living? I know LVA centers in Hyderabad
and Chennai.

Re: [AI] Eyeway TV serial: Theme Education

2013-02-18 Thread Umesha Economics
one important thing in innovative teaching for VI is ability of explaining
orally some of the visual things. many teachers lack it. if possible, try to
include this in your episode. for example, one of my teachers once wrote a
symbol on the board and said this is the integral sign. I asked him how it
would look like. he was unable to properly explain it verbally.

Subject: [AI] Eyeway TV serial: Theme Education

Hi All,

Education is key to empowerment. Education is critical to make blind and
visually impaired persons contributing members of our economy. The
education that blind people get should be at par with what other citizens
have access to.

There have been a number of innovations that have been made across the
country to include blind and visually impaired into the mainstream. There
are a number of interesting efforts made to make teaching of Science and
Maths interesting and possible like the efforts made at the Deonar
school,Hyderabad. Besides the various technologies and products used to
make education, exam writing etc accessible. For a blind person to be
fully

included, he/she needs to get quality education. The episode will seek to
establish that quality education can be provided. The National education
programmes must start counting blind and visually impaired persons as part
of the diversity that exists in the classroom and hence must evolve
pedagogic techniques, curriculum, school designs etc accordingly. The
educationists should recognise the need for including blind people in
school and must believe in it. In essence we would like to establish that
blind people can be included in the National scheme of things and they
must

be included. The serial will project the possibilities and the motivation.

Folks, please do share examples of good education practices, examples
like

the Delhi Public School (R K Puram),, Innovative teaching methods deployed
in schools whther special school or inclusive schools, Examples of
students

who have been well included,

At the end of the day, we want the country to include us. Your
contributions are welcome and deeply appreciated. Please do not change the
subject line.

Thanks in advance for your contributions.

Warm regards,

Re: [AI] Aarthi from Mauritius

2013-02-18 Thread mukesh jain
dear aarthi,
folowing extract may be of some use:

There are various categories of job in a call centre. The titles and
profiles of some of these jobs which can be performed by persons with
blindness or low vision are as under:

1. Transaction Process Executive: Various types of transactions are
processed in a Call Centre. The Executive that handles any transaction
is categorized under the Transaction Process Executive depending on
the transaction being processed. These Executives could be classified
into various categories. These transactions could be in the field of
handling customer telephone calls, processing of bio-data’s for
recruitment, handling queries on e-mails etc. The list of such
processes could be non ending. Some of the areas which were identified
during the observation for this research are as under:

a. Customer Care Executive: This is an entry level job in a call
centre. The job of the Customer Care Executive can be categorized into
two main areas the inbound call executive and the outbound call
executive. The inbound executive receives the call from the customer.
The customer would want some information regarding a particular
product or service. The Executive would lookup for the information on
the PC and provide it to the customer. For example, a customer of a
mobile phone service calls to get details of an available tariff
plans. The customer care executive would receive the call and supply
the information which he has on his desktop PC.

The Outbound Call Executives lookup the contact information of the
customers from the desktop PC. They will call the customers either for
selling their target products or inquiring about the information which
manufacturer or the seller would need from their customers.

b. CV Processing Executive in HR Department: This job is in the HR
department of the call centre. The HR department receives bio-data and
other information’s through e-mail etc. The information from these
sources are read on the PC itself and entered into the structured data
base packages of the company.

Yes, as far as I know, Binod Bihari Mukhopadhyay became blind at an advanced
age. he did not give up sculpture and painting even after losing sight. He
was asociated with Visva-Varati throughout his life. Information on him
should be available on Wikipedia.
