Re: [AI] Urgent: Writing semester exams on computer using Jaws

OK thanks. but is it possible only using jaws 12? or minimum jaws 12?

On 5/2/13, Hozefa Tambawala starh...@gmail.com wrote:
If you are using JAWS 12 and wish to use Office 2007, then activate
“Use Virtual Ribbon Menu” option to make the Office 2007 ribbon
structure simpler. After activating, you can navigate as same as in
Office 2003. Just follow this prompts to do the same:

1.Open “JAWS menu” by pressing INSERT+J.
 2.Select “Utilities” and press ENTER.
3.Select “Settings Center” and press ENTER.
4.Press TAB and navigate to the “Tree view” section.
5.Select “Miscellaneous” and press RIGHT ARROW to expand that section.
6.Press DOWN ARROW and select “Use Virtual Ribbon Menu” checkbox and
 press SPACEBAR to check it.
7.Finally, press ENTER to close the Settings Center dialog box.

Explore this option and feel the change. You will find that all
individual options in ribbon are disappeared and same options are
shown under the various categories. After activating this checkbox,
you won’t be able to navigate with the TAB key. You need to use four
arrow keys and ENTER key to activate the option. If you are not
satisfied with the change, then clear the box “Use Virtual Ribbon
 Menu” with SPACEBAR.

The same applies to Office 2010 as well.

I am using it without any trouble. If you need more assistance, then
contact me on my e-mail ID.

Just to point out, you can always use the MS Office 2003 shortcuts in

Of course, I agree with you in MS Office 2003 being more convenient to

Another useful tip is to save your answer sheet as PDF, and make sure
when you finish writing everything, justify your text, it looks good
as the alignment is proper. Decide what font size you want to keep.
Times New Roman as a font type would be my recommendation. Saving in
pdf would help as then there is lesser chance of tampering with answer
 sheet during printouts.

Also, you can use a footer which contains page numbers as: 1/34
assuming of course you have written total of 34 pages. This will help
if there is any page missing from your printed copy and such other
 circumstances.

Generally, I write my seat no., (in your case it could be roll no.),
subject, semester, (whether 3 years law or 5 years law), medium, along
with total number of pages. Make sure to use page breaks wherever
 required.

If you have OMR sheet concept, then that will be attached on top of
your printout. I would advise you to also stick your permission letter
of university allowing you to give answers in printed format be
attached with your answer sheet, this saves from 2 things, one that
your answer books are moderated, and second at the time of entry of
marks, nobody leaves your marks as the answer sheet is printed. (only
applicable if these things are done at a university level).

Writing question number before each sub-question is a good idea. Soft
copy and other issues depend on the mentality of your examination
authorities, so check with university (controller of examinations) and
law department's dean. Otherwise, no option then to go with a reader.

Feel free to write / call personally should you need any help.

Much of the business interactions take place in restaurants and in dining

Note on ‘Image Management’

Image management is the science and art of pro-active ongoing evaluation
and control of the impact of appearance on self, others and on achievement
of goals. Image influences public perception of oneself. A major part of
communication is visual and what we see we remember and what we hear we
forget. For this reason, positive first impressions are very vital to take
any personal and professional relationship forward. With Image Management,
one can master the art of expression through physical appearance, body
language and business etiquette to project confidence and trustworthiness.
These factors also assist in projecting an image of Capability, Rapport,
Trust and Leadership, for e.g, at a conference or an important

[AI] Please tell how to tackle ragging

2013-05-03 Thread Shadab Husain
Hi all,

In the office and college often the blind face mental harassment but
we don’t have an effective law that could curb this.

For someone who tolerates ragging and feels sad or rather depressed,
what can be the set of advice you can offer to comfort his painful
heart?

I have faced a lot of harassment.

Tips such as ‘Ignore them’ or ‘Be strong’ contain wisdom but very
often we fail to apply them when surrounded by insensitive and
merciless leg pullers. Yes, ‘Ragging is a small issue’, yet it often
makes you feel miserable, so I am writing here the tips that worked
excellently with me.
• Q: Know a simple fact that those who indulge in ragging are childish
fellows. Treat them as you treat children. You will start enjoying
their stupidity. If, amid an uproar of laughter you are able to
genuinely smile, it would be overwhelming. Believe me, a couple of
genuine smiles and casual retorts (i.e. ‘You are talking nonsense’ or
‘I think you seem to be crazier today’) have the potential to
frustrate the entire bunch.
• W: Be full of ambition. Soichiro Honda had to face insulting
laughter of his instructors and fellow students for a long time after
his piston ring, which he created using his whole wealth, was rejected
by Toyota. If he had cared about that ragging, we would have not heard
the automobile company Honda. Schopenhauer had said it long ago:
Vulgar people take huge delight in the faults and follies of great
men.
• E: Don’t keep retorting if a group is ragging you. Let them pass a
lot of comments, this will somewhat tire them and decrease their
interest. At a suitable time, confront the leader fearlessly and
carelessly, your unexpected audacity would knock the stuffing out of
him. Contrary to the popular opinion, many times people enjoy to see
their leader under fire, so the chances for you to get a silent
support are high. And the belief that only excessive or loud talk can
help you overpower ragging is baseless...Continued at
http://PersonalityAndEnglish.blogspot.com/
Delaying clicking this 3-minute post might cause you to miss very
useful harassment-tackling techniques! Check out how beautifully I
overcame ragging at

[AI] DU woos students with free laptops

2013-05-03 Thread avinash shahi
Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh addressing a press
conference on Thursday.- Photo: Shiv Kumar Pushpakar
http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-newdelhi/du-woos-students-with-free-laptops/article4678905.ece

This July, any student who makes it to any of Delhi University’s
under-graduate college will get a free laptop to use and return at the
end of the year. This was announced by Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh on
Thursday after the university conducted a survey of around 3,000
school children from across the city, 90 per cent of whom testified to
the “liking” of the course and their eagerness to enrol with the
university.

“There is a committee which is working out the logistics of the
laptops and they are almost through.… we stand committed, we will not
allow cost to be an impediment to learning, the university will put
all its resources behind this effort,” said Prof. Singh, adding that
the school children from Class XII were drawn from a cross-section of
schools across the city ranging from the highly-reputed private
schools to the MCD and Kendriya Vidyayala schools. “We think it is a
representative sample. After we made a two-hour presentation
explaining everything we gave them a feedback form and they all
expressed their liking and desire to enrol in the programme, they all
said they were eager to join... this is a testament, an affirmation of
what we believe is a good thing.”

The university said that several people who were involved in
formulating the structure and others were taking strong exception to
the negative opinions of “outsiders” and non-stakeholders. This was
represented by a written statement signed by around 43 principals
including Hindu College, Shri Ram College of Commerce, Miranda House
and Kirori Mal College. The statement says: “We take objection to the
needless interference of those who are superficially acquainted with
the processes and activities. Such people reflect certain elitism far
removed from the ground realities.”

Prof. Singh also said that in the new four-year course, no stone will
be left unturned to help SC/ST, physically handicapped students and
the OBC students. Decentralisation of admissions for all these
students is on the anvil and the university intends to have monitoring
committees and special orientation sessions to understand their
problems. “The colleges will be told not to impose any additional
criteria for these students.”

Whether the Common Aptitude Test for English and other entrance exams
will be held this year is still under question and things will be
clearer by May 7 when the Academic Council meets and all the courses
are finalised.

If you are using JAWS 12 and wish to use Office 2007, then activate
“Use Virtual Ribbon Menu” option to make the Office 2007 ribbon
structure simpler. After activating, you can navigate as same as in
Office 2003. Just follow this prompts to do the same:

 1. Open “JAWS menu” by pressing INSERT+J.
 2. Select “Utilities” and press ENTER.
 3. Select “Settings Center” and press ENTER.
 4. Press TAB and navigate to the “Tree view” section.
 5. Select “Miscellaneous” and press RIGHT ARROW to expand that section.
 6. Press DOWN ARROW and select “Use Virtual Ribbon Menu” checkbox and
 press SPACEBAR to check it.
 7. Finally, press ENTER to close the Settings Center dialog box.

Another useful tip is to save your answer sheet as PDF, and make sure
when you finish writing everything, justify your text, it looks good
as the alignment is proper. Decide what font size you want to keep.
Times New Roman as a font type would be my recommendation. Saving in
pdf would help as then there is lesser chance of tampering with
 answer
 sheet during printouts.

Also, you can use a footer which contains page numbers as: 1/34
assuming of course you have written total of 34 pages. This will help
if there is any page missing from your printed copy and such other
 circumstances.

Generally, I write my seat no., (in your case it could be roll no.),
subject, semester, (whether 3 years law or 5 years law), medium,
 along
with total number of pages. Make sure to use page breaks wherever
 required.

If you have OMR sheet concept, then that will be attached on top of
your printout. I would advise you to also stick your permission
 letter
of university allowing you to give answers in printed format be
attached with your answer sheet, this saves from 2 things, one that
your answer books are moderated, and second at the time of entry of
marks, nobody leaves your marks as the answer sheet is printed. (only
applicable if these things are done at a university level).

Writing question number before each sub-question is a good idea. Soft
copy and other issues depend on the mentality of your examination
authorities, so check with university (controller of examinations)
 and
law department's dean. Otherwise, no option then to go with a reader.

Feel free to write / call personally should you need any help.

[AI] Please guide, how to send bulk sms?

2013-05-03 Thread Rishi Kewalramani
Dear friends,
I need to send around 4,000 sms every week as invitationsreminders for my
weekly spiritual and motivational talks in different areas in Bangalore.
So I wanted all your valuable inputs regarding the most easiest and economical
way to send bulk sms.
Most importantly, I would not want the privacy of my audience of around 4,000
people's mobile numbers compromised, in the sense their numbers being sold to
marketing companies and then they receiving unsolicited marketing calls and
Unwanted invite to SPAM.
I think opting for the free sms service being offered by different companies
would be calling for this trouble.
Am I right in thinking so or is there any free sms website service that would
not sell out these numbers?
If not, I don't mind paying a nominal amount for the same as long as the
privacy of my audience is not breached.

Looking forward to all your kind guidance and valuable inputs, It's a little
urgent, so prompt replies shall be highly appreciated,
Sincerely,
Rishi,

Yes you are right. However, my school administration has told me that
you have to seek the permission of deputy commissioner (DC) of kvs to
take double travelling allowance; otherwise whatever money I have
received so far would be recovered. Interestingly, Iam getting double
t.a since the inception of my service. their argument is that double ta
is for physical handicap , not for visually handicap.

I want to know that is there any official order or circular regarding this.

i am waiting for reply from those friends who are working in kvs.
thanks in advance.regards.

Re: [AI] SAMBHAVANA ORGANIZATION FILES A PIL Demanding Stay on the PROPOSED FOUR YEAR UNDER-GRADUATE PROGRAMME of DU

2013-05-03 Thread SC Vashishth
Nishant and others at Sambhavana!

This is a very relevant issue as most plannings by the public bodies/
educational institutions/ government are continuously undertaken without
considering the persons with disabilities and their specific needs. We have
faced this problem in the past. When ever the CBSE/ SCERT/ NCERT etc change
the courses or bring out revised editions, the diversity of students get
left out. The authorities forget about the Braille and digital versions.

Availability of accessible study material is a primary requirement to
ensure equality of opportunities for persons with disabilities. If the
course has not yet been decided before the launch of the 4 years hybrid

this course in its true inclusive way.

 PRESS RELEASE Ref.Sam/2013/127
 Dated: 03/05/2013

SAMBHAVANA ORGANIZATION FILES A PIL Demanding Stay on the PROPOSED
FOUR YEAR UNDER-GRADUATE PROGRAMME of DU

Sambhavana, the leading organization of disabled teachers and students
in Delhi, has filed a writ petition in the honorable High Court
requesting a stay order against implementation of the discriminatory
four year under-graduation programme, FYUP. It claims that the present
design of FYUP is discriminatory as the programme does not take in to
consideration the aspirations and specific needs of the students with
blindness and other print-disabilities. Sambhavana organization
strongly believes that in case the four year under graduate programme
is introduced in its present form the student with Vision Impairment
will suffer irreparable loss and a large number of such students will
get excluded from the proposed benefits of this programme. Sambhavana
objects the implementation of the proposed FYUP mainly on the
 following grounds:

Problem Arising due to the Imposition of Compulsory
 Interdisciplinarity on Students

In the name of interdisciplinarity, this programme requires students
to study foundation courses from multiple streams. Two of the eleven
foundation courses (to be studied over first two semesters) would be
on Mathematics and Science. In most cases, blind or visually impaired
students are discouraged or practically barred/disallowed from taking
Science and Mathematics after 8th standard. Sambhavana Organization
argues that DU, just like most of schools in Delhi or in the country,
have not made adequate arrangements for teaching blind students
Mathematics and Science. In the present system at Delhi University,
not studying Maths and Science after 8th standard did not harm at
least the immediate academic prospects of a blind student. Yet, the
FYUP makes it compulsory for all the students to study courses that
require prior knowledge of Science and Mathematics.
The university has two options in this case. Either DU can exempt
vision impaired students from studying courses that require knowledge
of Science and Mathematics. Or it can tell those students to look for
some other university. In either case DU would be treating people with
visual disabilities as second class students in complete violation of
their fundamental and other legislative rights of equal participation.

 Unavailability of Accessible Reading Material

It has been a constant problem for students with vision impairment to
get hold of reading material for their studies in accessible formats,
such as Braille, E-texts, large text or audio recording. As far as the
existing courses are concerned, at least some reading material in
accessible formats have been accumulated over the years as a result of
various individual and organizational initiatives, which is of course
merely a fraction of the total number of texts prescribed . Yet, when
it comes to the FYUP nobody is still sure what form the courses will
take. For many of the courses there is no syllabus approved by the
statutory bodies thus far. Even if the syllabi are ready in the month
of May, it will take some time to print the texts and other reading
materials for vision impaired students in accessible formats. By any
means, this task cannot be achieved overnight. At least a year of
systematic planning and efforts is needed. Sambhavana Organization
believes that in the light of DU’s tendency of having no dialogue
despite series of representations and protests by disabled students
and teachers over last many months against the blatant disregard of
various provisions as enshrined in the laws for disabled, it is very
less likely that without intervention of judiciary, University would
pay appropriate attention to protect legal rights of such students.

 Demands

Sambhavana Organization demands from DU to have dialogue with Disabled
Students and Teachers which is enshrined in the PWD Act and the
 UNCRPD, before

Dear list,

Would appreciate if you could please send me off the list the details of
such institutions/ examination conducting bodies who continue to defy the
new scribe guidelines of the Ministry of Social Justice. I am sure many of
you would be appearing for different exams such as UGC, UPSC, SSC, CBSE,

 PRESS RELEASE Ref.Sam/2013/127

Yet, when

it comes to the FYUP nobody is still sure what form the courses will

 take. For

Re: [AI] SAMBHAVANA ORGANIZATION FILES A PIL Demanding Stay on the PROPOSED FOUR YEAR UNDER-GRADUATE PROGRAMME of DU

2013-05-03 Thread Vikas Gupta
Though all these three reports are good, the best reproduction of
Sambhavana's press release may be seen in the Indian Express, which is
closest to our perspective. I have not gone through other media
reports so far. Though some news channels had also called me
yesterday, I am not aware how did they cary it. Friends, let us use
this oppertunity to not merely fight against the discriminatory
provisions of four year undergraduate digree programme of Delhi
University, but more specifically, let us strugggle to ensure that our
needs and requirements are kept at the centerstage of any planning. I
remember when I was a member of EOC in Delhi University, we had
prepared a long list of books that visually challenged students would
need to study for different courses. This list of course excluded many
disciplines, however, whatever we had suggested, only a fracction of
those books have been so far converted in acccessible formats. Still
University is almost every year renewing its syllabuses without ever
bothering to ensure that before introducing a new programme, it should
also make adequit arrangements for protecting equal rights of
disabled.

If the

course has not yet been decided before the launch of the 4 years hybrid

course, one can well imagine the preparation of the university to launch

this course in its true inclusive way.

Good move and you have all the support from me.
