Why the subject mentions Jaws 15 while the body talks of Jaws 14 and the
dates are too, of last year.

Freedom Scientific Releases JAWS 14

New Flexible Web, Vocalizer, Support for Windows 8

(St. Petersburg, Florida – October 24, 2012) – Freedom Scientific
today announced the release of version 14 of JAWS® for Windows, the
world’s premier screen reading software. This release includes a new
feature called Flexible Web, designed to give users better control
when reading Web pages. This innovation allows screen reader users to
identify and block extraneous content, such as advertisements and
social media links that sighted people skip right past, but that are
serious hindrances to navigation and continuous reading for blind
users. Available for use with Internet Explorer or Firefox, Flexible
Web includes a wizard that makes it easy to create global rules or Web
page specific rules.

JAWS 14 is also the first screen reader offering support for the
Windows 8 Operating System. The new Windows 8 Start Screen and Windows
Store Apps such as IE, E-mail, Calendar, and Contacts, are all
supported. Freedom Scientific worked with Microsoft on the new
Accessibility Driver, to provide JAWS cursor and Braille support on
this new operating system.
“This release offers some significant breakthroughs in accessibility
for screen reader users,” said Eric Damery, Vice President of Software
Product Management for Freedom Scientific. “Flexible Web is one of the
biggest advances in Web access for screen reader users since the
introduction of Navigation Quick Keys and the Links List. The new
Vocalizer Voices, provided for free, allow JAWS users to read most
Outlook 2010 and 2007 e-mails for the first time without having to
open them in a browser. These advances, along with all the other
features and enhancements, make this new version of JAWS a ‘must have’
to go along with our all new MAGic® 12 release.”

The JAWS 14 upgrade is an SMA release and can be downloaded as either
a 32- or 64-bit version from the JAWS downloads page at
http://www.freedomscientific.com/downloads/jaws/jaws-downloads.asp.

DVD shipments to SMA holders and new product customers will commence
on Nov 1, 2012.

Re: [AI] PDF reading woes

2013-10-30 Thread Ekinath Khedekar
Thank you Him,

The process looks all simple but “convert it” button is shown as
unavailable even after properly browsing the file.
What may be the reason?

@all,
Is it possible to find (control+f) any text based on its color in word
or in pdf?
But to start with, you know that control+f doesn’t help reading cursor
to move to the found text. Pdf is really inaccessible.

Pl. guide

Hi,
Try to convert the pdf file using www.pdftoword.com online tool.
It maintains most of the format of the pdf file.

[AI] PDF reading woes

2013-10-30 Thread Ekinath Khedekar
Hi list

I don’t know when pdf will become as accessible as office word.

I have to read a pdf with a track mode. It has a changed text in a blue color.
Amar told me how to read it, by selecting Jaws reading scheme to
“color” by pressing “insert+alt+s”.

However, I steel find pdf more irritating than even a ppt as jaws
keeps reading extra stuff like repeating the name of the document
every page and sometimes at every press of control+down arrow.

Please guide. Objective is to read the text smoothly while able to
understand changes colored in blue.

I tried Abby find reader to convert the same pdf to word but then the
blue text lost its color and I wouldn’t understand the difference.

For trial this pdf is on Ministry of power site called “draft
amendments to electricity act 2013” uploaded this month itself.

Thanks

[AI] FCC To Require Talking Menus On A Number of TV Related Devices

2013-10-30 Thread Hozefa Tambawala
Many thanks to Maria Campbell for this information.

ALERT!--YOU DID IT! New FCC Rules Will Make TV/TV-Like Devices Accessible!
For further information, contact:
Mark Richert, Esq. Director, Public Policy, AFB
(202) 469-6833
mrich...@afb.net

Dear Advocates:

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has just announced that it
will be publishing final regulations requiring that virtually all TV
and TV-like devices must be accessible through audible controls,
guides and menus! This action by the FCC is the result of an
unprecedented outpouring by the vision loss community demanding
greater accessibility. Advocates will recall that there had been
attempts by some industry groups to thwart the intent of the historic
Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (CVAA)
to revolutionize the television viewing experience for people with
disabilities. AFB, along with the American Council of the Blind (ACB)
successfully negotiated with leading industry advocates to craft the
consensus that the FCC ultimately used to adopt their new rules. Under
this consensus, virtually all TV and TV-like devices, inclusive of
tablets and smart phones, receiving digital video programming must be
accessible through audible controls. The rules do apply a slightly
different degree of accessibility requirements on devices that depend
on additional equipment, such as a so-called cable card. However, even
in such instances, the devices must be accessible but will only be
required to be provided upon request. All other devices must be
accessible as a matter of course unless the manufacturer can
demonstrate that accessibility was not achievable. This rulemaking is
the last of the many rulemaking proceedings implementing the CVAA
which, along with requirements for described TV programming and
accessible advanced communications services such as text messaging and
email, will forever change the way people who are blind or visually
impaired can fully use and enjoy the most ubiquitous technologies on
the market today. Once the final official version of the new rules has
been published, there will be more to say about the details. As with
all of the FCC's regulations, they will only work to the extent that
our community makes use of them through ongoing advocacy. And if
history is our guide in this regard, these new rules will be a
tremendous success. When our community was called upon to make our
voices heard, you were heard in no uncertain terms. Your advocacy made
this transformative achievement possible. It will be up to all of us
to continue to hold companies accountable for their responsibilities
under these new rules to make their video programming devices fully
accessible to us. You did it! Congratulations, and thank you!
Mark

finish the installation because another more recent version is
installed on your system.

Before installing I did one big mistake that I tried to remove IE9
from my system using revo uninstaller. now ie8 has also been
uninstalled due to using revo uninstaller. I know there is one file is
in the system which is called Iproxy.dll

This is a system file so can't be deleted so I also tried system
restore but that could also not solve my problem. Now there is only
one solution that is reinstall window. But, At this time I don't want
to do that.
I also know that there are so many experts on the list who can suggest
me a better way to get read of this amazing and annoying problem so
please don't let my belief weaker and please try to mul hard and solve
this problem.

Thanks in advance,
Best Regards:
Shyam

Re: [AI] Malayalam text reader and typing tool.

2013-10-30 Thread Him Prasad Gautam
Hi Raju,
Lekha recognizes Devanagari letters which is used in Nepali too.
It has no thing to do with language.
However, the numbers, symbol name and the tone of pronounciation is in Hindi.
Simillarly, my Drishtibachak will read Hindi texts but the numbrs and
symbols will be in Nepali.

[AI] A TTS and Point to be clear to a screen reader user.

2013-10-30 Thread Him Prasad Gautam
Hi group fellows,
One of our fellow member has asked the question:
Does the Lekha TTS supports the pdf file?
Perhaps you may have also ask similar type of question.
Keep in mind that if there is no speech out, it is not only due to the TTS.
If a vehicle stops moving in a road, do not conclude that it is only
due to the driver.
Let me explain the situation on the context of this question.

A TTS has no thing to do with an application. There is no question
asking whether it supports pdf file or not.
Just ask whether the active screen reader supports it or not.
If your screen reader recognizes the texts of a file and reports to
the TTS that there contain this letter, an TTS will speak it. The duty
of a TTS like lekha or my Wachak is just speak those letters/words
which screen reader will sent to it. In case of a TTS, always ask
whether it supports this language letters or not but never ask whether
this supports this application or not.
A TTS is like a mike which will produce a sound if one speaks. It will
be silent if no one speaks.
If there is no voice in pdf file while the active synthesizer is the
lekha, it means the active screen reader is not recognizing the pdf
text and not sending the text of the file. If the screen reader has
reported what letter was there, lekha TTS may report you by producing
the sound. Here the mouth is not speaking but not the mike!

Re: [AI] Purchasing new scanner

2013-10-30 Thread muruganandan.k
This scanner's mrp was 3705. But I got it for rs.3200 at a shop in nehru
place, delhi. I bought it in marchch. I would suggest never to go to the
exclusive brand shop of canon, where they charge the mrp rate. Please go to
general electranic shops. The scanner speed is better than HP basic
scanner. Does't get struck as HP. I have used only hp scanner apart from
this.

hello,
please share your experience about accessibility and speed as well.
because i have purchased such kind of scanner three years ago i.e.
cannon lide 25 which was usb scanner. but its interface was not
accessible. also while scanning large amount of pages with fine
reader, it used to scan couple of pages fine and then slows down the
performance of scanning and powers off imediately.
thanks,

[AI] Frenchman becomes first disabled person to skydive over Mt Everest

2013-10-30 Thread mukesh jain
Washington, Oct. 29 (ANI): A Frenchman with multiple sclerosis has
become the first disabled person to skydive over Mount Everest.

Marc Kopp, of Longwy in eastern France, suffers from the degenerative
disease that attacks the central nervous system, impairing the brain's
ability to communicate with the body.

According to the New York Daily News, after finishing the challenge,
Kopp said that he hoped his action inspires others suffering from the
illness.

The 55-year-old, who typically uses a wheelchair, fell from the
airplane from 32,800 feet above Everest in tandem with his friend
Mario Gervasi, a champion skydiver.

Kopp said that he always wanted adventure in his life just like
Tintin, the Belgian comic book character.

He has been lifted to a medical center in Kathmandu, Nepal, where
doctors looked for possible injuries. They advised him to stay in bed
for the rest of the day.

Kopp described preparation for the jump as 'very painful' and said it
left his entire body in discomfort. He practiced riding a horse
several hours each day to prepare, the report added. (ANI)

[AI] JAWS15 Released

2013-10-30 Thread zameer pasha
What's New in JAWS 15,

JAWS 15 Features

Object Navigation Using the Touch Cursor
Certain applications, especially many of the modern-style apps found
in Windows 8, do not always work as expected with JAWS when navigating
with the standard cursors such as the PC and Virtual PC cursors.
Activating the new Touch Cursor enables you to use the ARROW keys on
your computer's keyboard, or the controls on your braille display, to
navigate through the actual objects in an application similar to using
gestures on the touch screen of a tablet. Application objects include
everything from menu bars, toolbars, and progress bars, to form
controls, regions, links, etc. Press SHIFT+NUM PAD PLUS, or SHIFT+CAPS
LOCK+SEMICOLON if using the laptop keyboard layout, to activate the
Touch Cursor. To turn it off, activate one of the other cursors, like
the JAWS or PC Cursor. Pressing the PC Cursor command (NUM PAD PLUS)
will cause JAWS to say "Touch Cursor" and the Touch Cursor will remain
active. If Tutor Messages are enabled, JAWS will also speak the
message "Double tap to activate PC cursor". Press the PC Cursor
command twice quickly to turn off the Touch Cursor and activate the PC
Cursor.

The Touch Cursor is enabled by default in certain Windows 8
applications to improve navigation. These apps include News, Weather,
and Store. Whenever you move focus to one of these apps, the Touch
Cursor is automatically activated. To automatically enable the Touch
Cursor in another application, press INSERT+V to open Quick Settings
while focused in the application where you want to use the Touch
Cursor, expand the Touch Cursor Options group, and then select
Automatic Activation. You must do this for every application where you
want to have JAWS automatically turn on the Touch Cursor.

Once the Touch Cursor is active, pressing RIGHT or LEFT ARROW will
move to the next or previous object on the screen. This is the same as
doing a left or right flick on a touch screen. Pressing UP or DOWN
ARROW will move to the previous or next object by type. By default,
these commands will move by region, or group if you are on the Windows
8 Start screen. This is the same as doing an up or down flick on a
touch screen. To change what object type these commands move by, press
PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN to cycle through the available types. For
example, if you want the UP or DOWN ARROW keys to move by headings,
press PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN until you hear "headings". Now, pressing UP
or DOWN ARROW will move to the next or previous heading.

Press CTRL+HOME to move to the first object and press CTRL+END to move
to the last object. To announce the current object, press INSERT+UP
ARROW. To perform a Say All, which will cause the Touch Cursor to move
through the application and speak each object, press INSERT+DOWN
ARROW.

As you navigate using the ARROW keys, the system focus does not follow
the Touch Cursor. This allows you to freely navigate objects without
changing the position of the PC Cursor or mouse pointer. Pressing
SPACEBAR or ENTER on the current element will move focus to that
element and perform the appropriate action similar to double tapping
on a touch screen. For instance, opening a menu, selecting a check
box, or activating a button or link. In addition, a rectangle will be
displayed around the currently selected object to visually indicate
the location of the Touch cursor for sighted users.

If the Touch Cursor is on an object containing text, such as the body
of a news article, you can press INSERT+ENTER or NUM PAD SLASH to
enable Text Review. In this mode, you can use the ARROW keys as well
as all other standard reading commands to read the text as if you were
reading a regular document. Pressing the ESC key will exit Text Review
and return to Touch Cursor navigation.

A good example of using the Touch Cursor is in the News app, where it
is enabled by default. Once the app launches, you could press DOWN
ARROW to move to the /Top Stories region and then press RIGHT ARROW to
move to a particular story. When you find the article you want to
read, you can press INSERT+ENTER or NUM PAD SLASH to switch to Text
Review so you can use the ARROW keys or the braille display to read
the article. Once you are finished, press ESC to close Text Review and
then use RIGHT or LEFT ARROW to select another article from the
current region, or UP or DOWN ARROW to move to a different region.

Touch Cursor Navigation Quick Keys
While the Touch Cursor is active, you can use Navigation Quick Keys to
quickly jump to various types of objects, such as regions, headings,
links, form controls, and so on. These commands are similar to the
Navigation Quick Keys that are used when navigating HTML and PDF
documents with the Virtual PC Cursor.

By default, Touch Navigation Quick Keys are not enabled when the Touch
Cursor is activated. This allows you to fully use applications that
support typing in the main window. For example, the News app lets you
type so you can quickly locate specific

Subject: [AI] Doubt regarding JAWS:

Hi friends,
I have a doubt JAWS.
We all know the jaws version 14. In future if jaws gets upgrade to 15,
do we need to instal that version in to computer? or can we update
directly?

Like for example, In nvda, now the version is 2013.2. If it gets
updated in to 2013.3, we can get update directly and we also get
notification as well. Is it possible from jaws also?
Hope you all got my query.
Kindly respond me as soon as possible.

With best regards,
Srinivas MVLES.
