Friend, first go to samsung settings by pressing left bottom corner
there is a finger touch, then search for accessability which is I
think third last in 30 items of samsung galaxy then inside
accessability the fourth option is talks back double tap on that when
you go inside talksback on right cornor upper side of the screen there
is on & off double tap on it it asks would you like to start talkback
double tap two times on OK then your talksback is started, but first
time you should take help of a sighted person, for me shop keeper
himself switched on the talks back,

[AI] IBPS query.

2013-12-17 Thread manjunatha.vl0
Hi Friends,

This time again I am short listed for the IBPS PO interview. But my problem is
I have submitted all my original documents in the state government for the
Panchayath development officer post recently. I must carry all my original
documents during IBPS interview. Now my doubt is carrying letter from my
department stating that they have taken all my document for the departmental
verification. Will it help in the interview? Or any other procedure I should
follow... Please help...

Thanks and regards,
Manjunatha V...
SR officer WBPO Bangalore.

[AI] Defining disability is tricky- and measuring it is even harder

2013-12-17 Thread Prashant Naik
Disability Who counts?

Defining disability is tricky- and measuring it is even harder

Dec 14th 2013. From The Economist print edition

LORETTA CLAIBORNE was born partially blind and could not walk or talk until
she was four. Officials recommended that she be put into an institution-a
common treatment for America’s “defectives” in the 1950s. Her mother
refused. Today Ms Claiborne has 26 marathons and a black belt in karate to
her name. She travels the world to speak for people like herself.

Disability-marked by an international day of action on December 3rd-can
mean being blind, deaf or wheelchair-bound. But far more disabled people
have such common chronic conditions as pain in the lower back (the greatest
global cause of years lived with a disability). American labour law also
counts high blood pressure and asthma as disabilities.

Measuring pain and misery is hard. Over 1 billion people-one in seven-have
some kind of disability, according to the World Health Organisation. But
that may be on the high side. America’s Census Bureau, which has been
counting the disabled since 1830, found 57m in a survey of economic status
in 2012. That was nearly one in five, of whom half said their disability
was severe. A national housing survey counted a mere 22m, whereas a health
survey tallied 62m. Ireland’s 2006 census found a disability rate of 9.3%.
The 2011 round also asked about pain and breathing troubles; it reported a
rate 40% higher

Definitions change over time: the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons
with Disabilities calls disability an “evolving concept”. In America
“imbeciles” and “defectives” were segregated and sterilised until the
1960s. Some count dyslexia and autism as a disability. Others, including
many with these conditions, fiercely contest what they see as a negative
label.

The effect of a disability also depends on what means are available to cope
with it. A survey in Zambia found that more than four out of five disabled
people lacked the devices and aids they needed. What may be a nuisance in a
rich country can be truly crippling in a poor one.

This makes it hard to decide the threshold at which disadvantage or woe
merits recognition or special treatment. Sports administrators wrestle with
this. Somebody who is legally blind in his home country, for instance, may
not be sufficiently visually impaired to compete in the Paralympic game of
goalball-which involves rolling a ball with a bell inside into the opposing
team’s goal. Paralympic players wear eye masks, though that might cause
some to ask why sighted people may not play too.

Technology has created a host of new solutions-and problems. Visitors to
the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC, have been
flocking to see the Bionic Man, a figure built from the most advanced
artificial body parts. These replicate more than 50% of the human body. His
arms and legs have the range of movement of real limbs. Hooked to a living
body’s nerves, they can be controlled by the brain, just like healthy
limbs. Such fixes are pricey. Bionic eyesight costs over $150,000. Robotic
arms are $20,000-120,000 apiece. Yet if you think that is costly, imagine
the forthcoming legal wrangles about whether such pieces of equipment
negate disability, or even give unfair advantages to people who use them.

you go inside talksback on right cornor upper side of the screen there

double tap two times on OK then your talksback is started, but first

[AI] Famous People with Visual Impairments

2013-12-17 Thread Surendra Gupta
Article Source:
http://www.brailleworks.com/Resources/FamousPeoplewithVisualImpairments.aspx

Blindness is the condition of lacking visual perception due to
physiological and/or neurological factors. Complete blindness is the
total lack of form and light perception and is clinically recorded as
"No Light Perception" or "NPL". Eye injuries, mostly occurring in
people under 30, are the leading cause of monocular blindness (vision
loss in one eye). People who are blind or visually impaired have
devised a number of techniques that allow them to complete daily
activities using their remaining senses and recently created
accessible technology such as screen reading software enables visually
impaired people to use mainstream computer applications including the
Internet. Listed below are historically famous people who had or have
a vision impairment including total blindness, sight conditions, or
blindness in one eye.

Image of Louis BrailleLouis Braille (January 4, 1809 - January 6,
1852): Louis Braille became blind after he accidentally stabbed
himself in the eye with his father's awl. He later became an inventor
and the designer of braille writing, which enables people who are
blind to read by feeling a series of organized bumps representing
letters. This concept was beneficial to all blind people from around
the world and is still commonly used today. If it were not for Louis
Braille's blindness he may not have invented this method of reading
and no other blind person could have enjoyed a story or been able to
comprehend important written materials.

Image of Helen Keller

Helen Adams Keller (June 27, 1880 - June 1, 1968): Helen Adams Keller
was an American author, activist and lecturer. She was the first
deaf/blind person to graduate from college. She was not born blind
and deaf; it was not until nineteen months of age that she came down
with an illness described by doctors as "an acute congestion of the
stomach and the brain", which could have possibly been scarlet fever
or meningitis. The illness did not last for a particularly long time,
but it left her deaf and blind. Keller went on to become a
world-famous speaker and author. She is remembered as an advocate for
people with disabilities amid numerous other causes.

Image of Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman (c. "in approximately" 1820 - March 10, 1913): Harriet
Tubman was a slave throughout her youth, being treated as an animal
until she eventually escaped captivity. She was an abolitionist,
humanitarian, and Union spy during the American Civil War. When she
had reached Canada she did not stay to enjoy her freedom. She
returned to the lands and brought hundreds of black slaves back to
safety, saving them from slavery by escaping in what was then called
The Underground Railroad. After a severe wound to the head, which was
inflicted by a slave owner before her escape, she became a victim to
vision impairment and seizures. That did not keep her from tossing
her fears aside and to keep fighting for the freedom of her people.

Image of Homer

Homer (Ancient Greek: `Oμηρος, Hómeros): a legendary ancient Greek
epic poet, traditionally said to be the author of the epic poems the
Iliad and the Odyssey. He was also said to have been blind. The
ancient Greeks generally believed that Homer was a historical
individual, but modern scholars are skeptical because no reliable
biographical information has been handed down from classical
antiquity, and the poems themselves manifestly represent the
culmination of many centuries of oral story-telling and a
well-developed "formulaic" system of poetic composition. The date of
Homer's existence was controversial in antiquity and is no less so
today. Herodotus said that Homer lived 400 years before his own time,
which would place him at around 850 BC; but other ancient sources gave
dates much closer to the supposed time of the Trojan War (1194 - 1184
BC). The formative influence of the works of Homer in shaping and
influencing the whole development of Greek culture was recognised by
many Greeks themselves, who considered him to be their instructor.

Ray Charles (September 23, 1930 - June 10, 2004): Known by his stage
name Ray Charles, he was an American pianist and musician who shaped
the sound of rhythm and blues. He brought a soulful sound to country
music, pop standards, and a rendition of "America the Beautiful" that
Ed Bradley of 60 Minutes called the "definitive version of the song,
an American anthem." In 1965, Charle
