Sure.
It costs around $2500, but it can be carried around and can read both
printed and handwritten material. Please check the GW Micro website
for more details.
There are many products listed there, like the Reading Wand, ReadEasy, etc.

Re: [AI] Mac computers

2014-01-18 Thread Rahul Bajaj
Hello,

I, for one, have always enjoyed using VoiceOver more than JAWS.
Kartik, I see where you're coming from, because even I was initially unable
to use VoiceOver as effectively as I am able to use it now. JAWS is very
different from VoiceOver, so you will take some time to get used to it.
Otherwise, the Mac is generally more stable than Windows, so VoiceOver rarely
gets stuck anywhere.

That being said, you cannot use applications like Powerpoint and Excel on the
Mac, so you'll have to buy their equivalents from the Mac App Store. Most of
these applications are on the expensive side and are also not as accessible as
MS Office applications.
Feel free to contact me off-list if you wish to discuss this in greater detail.

Hi,

It also depends on what tasks you want to perform.
>From what I have heard, voiceover doesn't provide complete support for
PDF and Microsoft office for mac.
So if you want to work on office applications, then windows will be a
better option.
For more information on apple products and podcasts, you can visit
www.applevis.com.
This website is a very good resource for learning to use apple products.
One thing is that you can install windows on mac computer through
bootcam, so you can have best of both worlds.

Thanks and Regards.

Personallly, I prefer PC over Mac as far as accessibility goes. I
found the Mac's interface rather weard to use, though this could be
because of limited usage. No doubt, Voice Over is pretty good, but in

Dear Piyush,

Please note that all the devices like Pearl, Lex, Zoom, don't work on
standalone basis. So what Mr. Rajasekar is interested in are the
portable devices like the ones offered by the less known manufacturers
which work without laptops.

Re: [AI] How to unable add ons in internet explorer

2014-01-18 Thread shyam sharma
follow the same process you followed to find 'checkbox.'
Now, look for every add on by down aerrow,
now, keep pressing tab until you find disable/enable button.
repeat this process for every add on you find by pressing down aerrow.
but remember, if you enable every add on, your browsing speed will become slow.
so, enable the add on which is necessary for you.

Sighted person can see the opened file through clicking on the link given

Re: [AI] Concerns in the New Rights Bill

2014-01-18 Thread Rajasekhar
Since there are concerns which has serious implications for students and
persons with visual impairment in the new Rights Bill, we must orient our VI
friends and obstruct the passage of the Bill in its current form.
Can someone among us prepare and share a 2page document detailing our
concerns and forward the letter to the Office of the Parliament Affairs
Minister.
Similar letters should also be sent to all Members of Parliament in our
respective States.
I would seek suggestions from all members of AccessIndia on this pressing

Re: [AI] potable reading device.

2014-01-18 Thread Amar Jain
Hi,

There are a couple of options, but a few considerations:
1. Pricing of such devices is generally above 1 Lakh.
2. Since the devices operate on standalone battery, the weight of such
device would be roughly around 2.5 KG or more.
3. Since you can't connect them to computers, you can't take advantage
of other good OCR softwares.
So you will need to rely on the quality of company provided softwares.
4. What is the type of material you need to read?
