Well many people take the VRS since they are not aware of section 47 of the
PWD ACT. Infact many do not even know that the PWD Act exists.

then it is not VRS in the true sense of the term.

I think court has gone overboard and interpreted s47 too favorably for
employees.
Had it been a compulsory retirement or removal from service, it was
understandable.
Moreover, giving retrospective benefits seems unwarranted.
I think SC would set it right, if railway approaches it.

Subject: [AI] People with disabilities can be reinstated after VRS

KOCHI: Supporting the special rights of people with disabilities, the
Kerala high court held that an employee who took voluntary retirement due
to a disability while in service should be reinstated if he or she wishes
so later on.

The ruling was made by a division bench comprising Justices Antony Dominic
and Dama Seshadri Naidu while considering an appeal filed by Southern
Railway opposing such a reinstatement order issued by the Ernakulam bench
of central administrative tribunal.

Fancy Babu of Kottayam, working as a senior clerk at Palghat division of
Southern Railway, had taken voluntary retirement on February 15, 2002. This
was after she was affected by paraplegia due to spinal cord compression,
which was ratified by a medical board of Kottayam Medical College.
In 2009, she filed a petition before the tribunal seeking reinstatement in
service, claiming such right under section 47 of Persons with Disabilities
(Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act of
1995. The tribunal ordered her reinstatement with effect from February 15,
2002 along with all consequential benefits.

Questioning the tribunal's order at the high court, Railway's counsel Tojan
J Vathikulam contended that the woman had voluntarily applied for
retirement. However, the court disagreed with this view. "Railways could
not take advantage of such an application made by a disabled employee under
compelling circumstances arising out of the disablement," the court ruled,
upholding the tribunal's order.

Dominic and Dama Seshadri Naidu while considering an appeal filed by
Southern Railway opposing such a reinstatement order issued by the
Ernakulam bench of central administrative tribunal.

Fancy Babu of Kottayam, working as a senior clerk at Palghat division
of Southern Railway, had taken voluntary retirement on February 15,
2002. This was after she was affected by paraplegia due to spinal cord
compression, which was ratified by a medical board of Kottayam Medical
College.
In 2009, she filed a petition before the tribunal seeking
reinstatement in service, claiming such right under section 47 of
Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights
and Full Participation) Act of 1995. The tribunal ordered her
reinstatement with effect from February 15, 2002 along with all
consequential benefits.

Questioning the tribunal's order at the high court, Railway's counsel
Tojan J Vathikulam contended that the woman had voluntarily applied
for retirement. However, the court disagreed with this view. "Railways
could not take advantage of such an application made by a disabled
employee under compelling circumstances arising out of the
disablement," the court ruled, upholding the tribunal's order.

[AI] Digital Talking Books and DAISY Readers

2014-10-07 Thread Dr Brijesh [Walk of Hope]
Hello Friends:

My name is Brijesh Kumar and I represent a non-governmental organization
(NGO), Manav Ekta Mission, which is an initiative of The Satsang Foundation
started by Sri M (Shri Mumtaz Ali), who is a spiritual luminary and an
educationist.

This mail is to share with you some developments we have on the front of
Digital Talking Books (DTBs). You may be aware that DAISY Consortium is an
international organization working on eXtensible Markup (XML) based
standards on how to structure and package content to be rendered and used
as DTBs and automatic transformation to Paperless Braille Devices or
Braille Print Books or Large Print.

We recently conducted a training programme for AICB engineers at the
Digital Media Initiatives' office on the conversion process of print text
books to DAISY format and further transformation to DTBs. These DTBs are
rapidly generated and use synthetic voice rendered in English at this time.

Manav Ekta Mission is association with Digital Media Initiatives has a
target of converting a thousand books/ text-books into DTB format.

I would like to know in this context that if there are many persons who are
currently using a handheld DTB/ EPUB Player and a device that generates
line-by-line output on a handheld paperless braille?

Will this conversion of a thousand books and textbooks help many people who
are visually challenged?

We also wish to offer the tutorials/ training programme and a certification
programme of this conversion process to IT enabled persons who have a basic
understanding of HTML and who who are good at English. Would there be many
who could be interested in to know how a print book can be converted into a
DTB?

BTW, to share with all, an interesting idea and project which we call WALK
OF HOPE. The Walk of Hope is a walkathon, a padayatra, which we at Manav

BBC: Hassan Khan: Blind Cricket Changed My Life.

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-29424906

More players are now taking up blind cricket than ever before but why is the
sport becoming increasingly popular?
A bowler running in at full steam, a batsman looking for gaps in the field
and a player standing at short leg. This is a T20 cricket match taking place
in north London but with a slight twist.
The ball being used is the size of a small football, the wickets are bigger
than usual and fielders are allowed to take a catch off a single bounce.
Hassan Khan was left blind at the age of three after a genetic illness
caused his eyesight to deteriorate slowly.
After learning to adjust to his condition, he began playing cricket in
boarding school before being scouted by the London-based Metro side.
Hassan Khan, who plays for England's visually-impaired team, began playing
the sport in boarding school "My blindness always used to make me feel
useless but cricket has been a friend that has helped me to wipe that
problem away and it allows me not to think so much about my sight," he said.
The 27-year-old became the first Asian player to represent the England
visually-impaired cricket team and is part of the squad which will be
competing at the Blind Cricket World Cup in South Africa next month.
"The game's given me so much beyond just the sport - it's given me
independence," he said. "I was so scared of doing everyday things like going
on the Tube by myself but now I travel on my own.
"I'm more confident and it's really changed my life."
There are 17 clubs across the country playing the sport competitively
Hassan is one of more than 300 players who now take part in the game's
domestic league, with a total of 17 clubs across the country playing the
sport competitively.
The game's governing body believes a combination of raising awareness of the
sport at a grassroots level and working alongside blind charities has led to
an increase in the number of players nationally.
"A lot of people say, 'Blind cricket, are you sure?' But then, they see the
rules aren't much different and it feels like you're playing regular cricket
- batting's the same, bowling's the same," said John Garbett, development
director at Blind Cricket England and Wales (BCEW).
The rising popularity of the game is reflected by the increase of players
from a South Asian background, who now make up nearly a fifth of all players
in the domestic league.
"We've been doing taster days in areas with big Asian communities where
cricket is obviously a massive game. You mention the word 'cricket' and
they're there straight away," Mr Garbett said.
In the international version of the game, the ball is filled with steel
bearings so players can hear it rattle The international version of the game
has a number of further differences - players have to bowl underarm and the
ball is filled with steel bearings so that batsmen and fielders can hear it
rattle.
IT professional Kirren Kaja is originally from India but has been living in
England for the past six years and plays for the Northants Steelbacks.
He said: "It's a nice way to get out and do things that other people also
do. I love cricket. It's my favourite pastime and so I don't need much
persuading to play."
Having been forced to give up the game for 14 years due to a lack of
facilities in India, Mr Kaja began playing blind cricket again after moving
to London.
"Cricket is part of an Indian child's DNA," he said. "I used to play in
school but then had stop. But now I'm playing the sport I love again and
it's great. It makes me feel just like anybody else."

No I don't think so that u should go for online shopping for the Radio
or any other electrical devices..
I've a worst experience with the Online Shopping atleast for the
electrical equipments!! Coz I already faced a great difficulty once.
So my humble suggestion is that u should prefer direct shopping from
the store.

[AI] BBC: Hassan Khan: Blind Cricket Changed My Life

2014-10-07 Thread shahnaz

BBC: Hassan Khan: Blind Cricket Changed My Life.

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-29424906

More players are now taking up blind cricket than ever before but why is the
sport becoming increasingly popular?
A bowler running in at full steam, a batsman looking for gaps in the field and
a player standing at short leg. This is a T20 cricket match taking place in
north London but with a slight twist.
The ball being used is the size of a small football, the wickets are bigger
than usual and fielders are allowed to take a catch off a single bounce.
Hassan Khan was left blind at the age of three after a genetic illness caused
his eyesight to deteriorate slowly.
After learning to adjust to his condition, he began playing cricket in boarding
school before being scouted by the London-based Metro side.
Hassan Khan, who plays for England's visually-impaired team, began playing the
sport in boarding school
"My blindness always used to make me feel useless but cricket has been a friend
that has helped me to wipe that problem away and it allows me not to think so
much about my sight," he said.
The 27-year-old became the first Asian player to represent the England
visually-impaired cricket team and is part of the squad which will be competing
at the Blind Cricket World Cup in South Africa next month.
"The game's given me so much beyond just the sport - it's given me
independence," he said. "I was so scared of doing everyday things like going on
the Tube by myself but now I travel on my own.
"I'm more confident and it's really changed my life."
There are 17 clubs across the country playing the sport competitively
Hassan is one of more than 300 players who now take part in the game's domestic
league, with a total of 17 clubs across the country playing the sport
competitively.
The game's governing body believes a combination of raising awareness of the
sport at a grassroots level and working alongside blind charities has led to an
increase in the number of players nationally.
"A lot of people say, 'Blind cricket, are you sure?' But then, they see the
rules aren't much different and it feels like you're playing regular cricket -
batting's the same, bowling's the same," said John Garbett, development
director at Blind Cricket England and Wales (BCEW).
The rising popularity of the game is reflected by the increase of players from
a South Asian background, who now make up nearly a fifth of all players in the
domestic league.
"We've been doing taster days in areas with big Asian communities where cricket
is obviously a massive game. You mention the word 'cricket' and they're there
straight away," Mr Garbett said.
In the international version of the game, the ball is filled with steel
bearings so players can hear it rattle
The international version of the game has a number of further differences -
players have to bowl underarm and the ball is filled with steel bearings so
that batsmen and fielders can hear it rattle.
IT professional Kirren Kaja is originally from India but has been living in
England for the past six years and plays for the Northants Steelbacks.
He said: "It's a nice way to get out and do things that other people also do. I
love cricket. It's my favourite pastime and so I don't need much persuading to
play."
Having been forced to give up the game for 14 years due to a lack of facilities
in India, Mr Kaja began playing blind cricket again after moving to London.
"Cricket is part of an Indian child's DNA," he said. "I used to play in school
but then had stop. But now I'm playing the sport I love again and it's great.
It makes me feel just like anybody else."

Re: [AI] How to learn using 'linked in' from the scratch

2014-10-07 Thread Amiyo Biswas
It's simple. Unfortunately I don't have time for so many things. When I
joined about a month agoe, it was quite accessible with Jaws. There are a
number of pages that follow one another asking for details for your profile.
Yu can skip at any stage though.

With best Regards,

Subject: [AI] How to learn using 'linked in' from the scratch

Hey folks, I want to use linked in, but I don't know how to go for it.
Can anybody guide me step by step how to creat an account on it, and
how to use with jaws?
