Re: [AI] Request for suggestions for NVDA development
Hi, Boopathi, Let me clarify some of your issues: 1. while typing, i face the problem of not knowing line number in which i am there. for this, NVDA doesn't have any shortcut key as JAWS has (inset + delete). so, i kindly request you to look into this problem. however, i know the option of enabling the saying of line number in the documentation setting, but it says line no for every line, as and when i press arrow keys. Answer : This feature request has already been reported to the NVDA developers. You can visit the ticket covering this issue at: http://community.nvda-project.org/ticket/4251 You can also express your feeling for the necessity of such a feature by adding a comment. To create an NV Access account and learn how to file tickets and other such stuff visit: http://community.nvda-project.org/wiki/Issues Make sure to CC yourself to this ticket if you want to receive updates on this ticket. 2. NVDA is lacking quick-key navigation, for instance, in the word document, while working with JAWS, if we give inset + Z key then if we press P, we can navigate paragraph by paragraph as we do in HTML file. For paragraph navigation Ctrl + arrow keys exist. But I understood the broader part of your request, quick navigation, or rather browse mode has been introduced for Microsoft Office Word, in the development snapshots of NVDA. They will certainly be included in the next release of NVDA, version 2015.1 TO know more about this feature's implementation, below is the relevant ticket's link: http://community.nvda-project.org/ticket/2975 To be able to use this feature straightaway, download a Master snapshot from: http://community.nvda-project.org/wiki/Snapshots There may be bugs in the Master snapshot, since it is a Beta version, but I find these development versions pretty stable. Hi, You will need to buy a static IP address from your internet service provider. If you have a standard Internet plan then your IP address is dynamic. Who is your service provider? Re: [AI] Request for suggestions for NVDA development
hi all, let us be clear. The issues to be reported may be classified into two categories. 1. Language independent issues like saying line number or navigating paragraph etc. 2. Directly or indirectly Language related issues like reading Tamil pdf files etc. Personally, I suggest to create a nvda ticket for the cases of the first category and report the Indian support team for the second category. It will channelize the issues and make our team specific to our issues. There are resources for common issues. But understanding our language related issue is not possible from outsiders. However, I do not mean not to talk and report common issues here. Mr. Boopathi, are you talking the pdf file of Tamil written in unicode format? I think, using nvda, we can access pdf file if written in unicode. To the team, In my opinion, the most urgent needed work is to develop an accessible traditional font text to unicode font text converter. Re: [AI] Request for suggestions for NVDA development
Hi Bhavya, Yes, I know you. I have seen many issues reported by you and you seem to track NVDA issues related to Hindi. I have only recently joined the team, many people have been already working on these issues for a couple of years as language experts, testers, and developers. Mr. Dipendra Menocha has been leading the initiative along with Manish Agrwal, Suman Dogra, Nirmita Narasimhan, Vardhan Varma, Maheshinder Singh Khosla, Him Prasad Gautam, Siddharth, Siddhartha Gupta, Mohith B.P and Prasenjit Sen. Many organizations such as Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), Saksham, IIT Delhi, and Enable India have also contributed. Many others have also contributed, I may not know or recall everyone but they have all contributed. So the team is big and we would be glad to get feedback and support from all of you. NVDA is lacking quick-key navigation, for instance, in the word document, while working with JAWS, if we give inset + Z key then if we press P, we can navigate paragraph by paragraph as we do in HTML file. 3. as it has already posted by Muruganandan from Pondicherry on the list, most of us face the problem of automatically closing the word document. it is more frequent especially while typing. pls sort out the problem with NVDA. 4. as it has been a wish and dream of hundreds of Tamil readers, NVDA has to be made accessible for reading Tamil pdf books. since quite a number of pdf books are available in Tamil, we are acutely in need of the option with NVDA for research and other purpose. thanks Boopathi mobile: 09985138783 On 1/3/15, Dinesh Kaushal dkaus...@sapient.com wrote: Dear all Wish you all a very happy new year. [AI] Lok Satta Party says persons with disabilities in governance can help build an inclusive society and beautiful country
*Mumbai, January 4, 2015:* The Loksatta Party has welcomed the induction of visually impaired individuals by the ruling BJP but said the move should not remain a token gesture. It is through such inclusion of all sections of society that we can build a beautiful country with equal opportunity for all, the party said. It is imperative that persons with disabilities become an integral part of governance systems and have a say in the decision-making process so that issues concerning them are raised on the right platforms and logical steps are taken to make life better for them. “The LSP in Maharashtra has a visually impaired person on its working committee, state LSP general secretary Rajeev D Pai said. There is no point if people with disabilities are made members but not given the opportunity to be part of the decision-making process.” Until that happens, we will not be able to build a truly inclusive society, he said. http://mh.loksatta.org/index.php?option=com_contentview=articleid=477Itemid=60 Regards, Sagar +91 99 30 271732 intouchid: 2010-SAGAR007 http://intch.me/2010-SAGAR007 The evil of the world is made possible only by the sanction you give it. - John Galt in Atlas Shrugged Celebrating Louis Braille birthday Jan4th Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. [AI] 1-Day National Conference On Discrimination On The Ground Of Disabilities.
Greetings from NAB helpline Concept Note On The Occasion of Golden Jubilee Year In The Memory Of Sir Louis Braille And Dr. B. R. Ambedkar A 1-Day National Conference On Discrimination On The Ground Of Disabilities Jointly Organized On 7TH January 2015 At 10 a.m. By Enabling Unit For Differently Abled And Society For Affirmative Action Lakshmibai College University Of Delhi Convened by Dr. M. P. Yadav Department Of English Concept Note:- The society has been exclusive since the days of antiquity. Due to the prevalent practices of exclusivism human beings in the society have been ostracized not only on the grounds of caste, creed, culture, racism and gender, but even on the ground of physical deficits and disabilities. The role of the governments, nations and society in the erstwhile context of the development of differently abled persons has been quite scant and meager and henceforth, their duties and responsibilities for the upliftment of this vulnerable marginalized section have considerably augmented to a larger extent, especially in the context of elimination of discrimination and grant of social justice. Disabilities have been deemed as prenatal anathema of transgression and an awful social stigma. People with disabilities have suffered more at the hands of vagaries, set social conventions, kinks, prejudices, apathy and andstors than on the ground of their visual and physical deficits. How lamentable it is that the disabilities of the people are viewed first and abilities later, seldom or never. Disabled persons have been facing discrimination for several ages. Discrimination seems to be an inevitable anathema to grind them of their potential values of life and dreams, passions and emotions. It begins with them since infancy and acquisition of disabilities and continues for lifelong be it in family, neighborhood, educational institutions of schools, colleges and universities, built environment, employments and their work places. Disabled persons with a valiant spirit have no doubt combated the physical and social odds and the consecutive strife they have made has certainly helped them to smite and smash ages old barriers. Despite the odds of disabilities, inspite of social kinks and vagaries, set social conventions of prejudices, apathy and andstors against them, differently abled persons after crossing the ages of annihillation, emancipation, and integration, have now assertively and emphatically entered the modern age of liberalism and inclusivism; and such new coinages as differently abled and specially abled have found prominent usages in modern governments, nations and society for persons with disabilities. Almost every differently abled individual has made hard strife, and he/she has taken strides far ahead to the extent of making valuable contributions to the government, nation and society in his / her own commendable way. But nevertheless, the discrimination virus is continuing endlessly, ruthlessly gnawing at the abilities of specially abled persons, be it in the place of work, family, society, neighborhood, or any other built environments. The serious cause of concern is: How to combat and eliminate the discrimination virus? Is it by countering the ages old propogated myths and proverbial sayings meant to tarnish and belittle the image of differently abled persons? Is it by advocating the cause of politics and philosophy of inclusivism? Is it by writing, translating, collecting, compiling and researching disability literature, and advocating for the inclusion of disability education in the curricula of the schools, colleges and universities? Let these questions be left for them profound ponderings, serious discussions and polemic debates of the scholars, intelligentia and academia. But, as the slogan goes: nothing for us without us; So too, let ourselves, the abled and disabled take the initiatives and make it a religion to be bound with and let it act upon us as a constantly binding force to write, translate, research, collect and compile our own literature, history, sociology, philosophy and psychology and advocate for the inclusion of disability education which may with the passage of time eliminate discrimination, paving the way for the social accommodation of differently abled persons in the mainstream of the nation and society. This National Conference beckons forthwith to share the empirical views of the disabled as well as nondisabled scholars and learned academicians on Discrimination On The Ground Of Disabilities. Call for papers and Sub-Themes:- 1 The Most Memorable Experience of Discrimination on the Ground of Disability 2 My Experience of Discrimination in Education on the Ground of Disability 3 My Experience of Discrimination in Employment on the Ground of Disability 4 My Experience of
