Re: [AI] RP/LCA coupled with Cataract
Yes, Jairam. What Mr. Kumar said is right. This is another person with RP and underwent cataract writing. Since you have not perceived any deterioration except for the last two years, the cataract surgery might have some positive impact. But make sure you go to to good hospital like SN or LVP for the surgery. For RP patients, Yog laser will be performed after the surgery which will help the vision condition. needless to say, am always available for a chat on the same. Little did she know, then, that the video could earn her not only a few lakh hits, but also professional training from one of the top musicians in India. Incidentally, the singer's friend, who told him about Tumpa, is also close to Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, who was also informed about the girl's talent. As a result, the chef has now decided to fund Tumpa's training and other related expenses. It gives me immense satisfaction to be part of her journey, says Kapoor. Tumpa lost both her parents at an early age, and has been living with her relatives since then. She has two sisters, one of whom, Meenu, has been working since the age of 14 to support the other siblings. Tumpa recently arrived in Mumbai, and has already commenced her music training. I started singing on the streets at the age of five, to earn money. Thanks to the help I am getting, I am actually daring to dream now. I want to become a good singer, and, if possible, through the earnings, I want to support my sisters, she says. It all started when Hariharan's friend saw the video, and asked the singer to watch it as well. He was so impressed with the young girl's voice that he decided to train her. He somehow traced her, and asked her if she was interested. Tumpa's voice has a unique quality, which demands attention. It will compel you to listen to her. All one needs to do is train her in the technical aspects of singing, says Hariharan. -- Avinash Shahi Doctoral student at Centre for Law and Governance JNU Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessind ia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. [AI] help sought for find option in ms word 2003
Hello, I am facing strange problem in Microsoft word 2003 while finding specific text in a document. For instance, I am working on a document consisting off 6 pages. There are several words like “teachers” in the document. So if I try searching for this word by pressing the keystroke control plus f and type this word in the edit box and pressing enter gives me the occurrence of that word by reading the complete sentence. But if I have to find the same next occurrence with this word, I press space bar on find next button but here the problem arise. Jaws does not speak the next sentence in which this word occurred. But surely my kerser goes on that word which I have confirmed it after pressing escape key to cancel the find dialog box and checking with arrow keys. But my concern is that jaws does read the next occurrence along with the sentence when you click on find next button. So is there any solution for this problem? I am using window 8 with Microsoft word 2003 and jaws 16. Please do not advise for upgrading to next versions of ms office as I have already used it on my personal machine But this can not be done as in my office version 2003 is being used. Therefore, I had raised a question of teachings to blind students about solar system, world maps, directions etc. Sadly, not much is being done on it. [AI] Tamil Nadu: Visually Challenged Players Prove Their Mettle on the Chess Board
http://www.newindianexpress.com/cities/chennai/Visually-Challenged-Players-Prove-Their-Mettle-on-the-Chess-Board/2015/08/24/article2989597.ece CHENNAI: A farmer’s son from a remote village near Sathankulam in Tutikorin district won the state-level chess tournament for visually challenged children organised by Nethrodaya, a self-help institution, recently. Among the participants was Jeremiah Jeparaj from Karungadal panchayat, located 45 kms away from Tuticorin city who travelled all the way to Chennai to participate in the chess tournament. He remained undefeated in all the six rounds and emerged as the winner among hundreds of other visually challenged chess players. His college friends who had raised money to support his dream of becoming a national-level chess champion had tears of joy when Jeremiah received the winning trophy from the Tamil Nadu Sports Development S Sundararaj. Jeremiah is currently pursuing his third year B A History course at St John’s College, Tirunelveli. He is also represented his district three times at the state-level cricket tournaments conducted by the Tamil Nadu government. After completing his UG, he plans to pursue a teacher training course but also continue his sports aspirations. Founder trustee of Nethrodaya, C Govindakrishnan said that out of the 1,27,405 visually challenged people in the state, more than 70,000 are from villages and unfortunately they are not provided with a platform to showcase their sporting ability. This competition aimed at providing recognition to players from rural Tamil Nadu through state-level and national-level chess competitions, he added. S Sivaraman, a class 12 student from St Louis Institute for the Deaf and Blind won the runners up title. This multi-talented champ from Tiruvarur apart from playing chess, plays volley ball and is an athlete and a violinist. S Karthick, from a village located 12 kilometres from Vanavasi in Salem won the third place. He moved to Chennai along with his brother Damodharan who is also visually challenged as there were no schools in Salem for special schools after class eight. His father who is also visually challenged, is a handweaver and saves money to visit his sons once in three months. Karthick is presently a student of Government Higher Secondary School for the Blind in Ponnamalle. While less than 10 out of 110 who participated in the chess competition were girls, M Shanthi, a house wife had brought her daughter M Pavithra all the way from Tiruchy. Pavithra, daughter of Muruganantham, a fitter working in Dalmia Cement Factory in Tiruchy had developed an interest in her for the game right from childhood. Once her mother Shanthi identified this, she decided to take her to chess competitions held at different parts of the state. “Despite several financial constraints, I am ready to do whatever I can to support my daughter’s dream, not only in chess but also education,” Shanthi told City Express. Govindakrishnan added that this initiative tried to sensitise the society that visually challenged can play chess on par with the sighted players. They need no relaxation on rules except for the specially designed chess boards. [AI] Justice Zak Yacoob: Pune law college hires ex-judge from South Africa for a course on PIL
With public interest litigations (PILs) playing an important role in the judicial process in the country, the city-based Indian Law Society has invited Zak Yacoob, former justice of the Constitutional Court of South Africa, to frame a course for students, young lawyers and activists on strategies for effective PILs. http://indianexpress.com/article/cities/pune/pune-law-college-hires-ex-judge-from-south-africa-for-a-course-on-pil/ According to professor Sathya Narayan, director of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Justice Yacoob has been was invited by the Indian Law Society to hold the position of Ford Endowment Chair for Public Interest Law for three months till October. Individuals, groups and movements have used the judicial process to settle struggles of the underrepresented and unrepresented groups and a need has been felt to design a certificate/diploma course on PIL which will be launched by the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, professor Narayan explained. On the sidelines of his interaction in the city with NGOs working on women’s and children’s issues, environmental concerns and others to identify areas of public interest, 67-year-old Justice Yacoob, who is visually challenged, told The Indian Express that PIL had emerged as an important strategy to achieve social justice through the judicial process. Prior to 1980s, PILs were non-existent but now there has been a resurgence and a combined effort is underway to document cases, Justice Yacoob said. Born in 1948, Justice Yacoob became blind at the age of 16 months as a result of meningitis. However, this did not prevent him from excelling in his field. He was appointed a judge of the Constitutional Court in 1998 and has been since involved in passing several landmark judgments to protect the rights of the weakest in the country. ‘Abolish death penalty’ Joining the debate sparked by the recent execution of Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon, Justice Yacoob said, “I have no doubt that if someone killed my son, I would say somebody should kill that murderer. That would be my response. But that should not be the state’s response. Every part of my being rebels against death penalty. The more terrorists you hang, the more the others will come to take their place.” He urged the Supreme Court of India and other countries abolish the death penalty. ‘Money to blame for the mess in cricket’ Justice Yacoob, who has recently been appointed by the International Cricket Council on its committee of code of conduct is excited about his new role. “I listen to the cricket commentary on radio and strongly feel that more money gets into cricket, the worse it gets! If there is less money, surely there won’t be huge problems like match-fixing,” says Justice Yacoob. “The cricketing world is fascinating and I have yet to deal with my first case here,” says Justice Yacoob, who also had a word of praise for cricket officials. “They are better than old judges of South Africa who felt that the witness could not be assessed as I could not see.” “Blindness is blindness, but at 67, I do not want to learn to start seeing again,” he said. -- Avinash Shahi Doctoral student at Centre for Law and Governance JNU Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. [AI] RP/LCA coupled with Cataract
Dear friends I was diagnosed with RP early in my childhood. Later on it was diagnosed as LCA. Recently for the last one-two years, there was a sudden blurness in site, which I attributed to the degenerative retinal condition. But recently, doctors have revealed that there is a cataract formation in both eyes, which needs to be operated. My question is: 1. Does cataract surgery have any impact on the existing retinal condition? My site has remained almost static for the last 33 years and I have not noticed any big dip in vision other than the last 1-2 years. 2. Is this surgery similar to any healthy eyed person or Are there any specific do's and dont's to be followed for the surgery and post-operative care for persons with pre-existing retinal issues? 3. Are there any additional tests like ERG etc. to be undertaken? 4. Has anybody from our group undergone similar condition of cataract with LCA/RP? Awaiting your responses. Re: [AI] RP/LCA coupled with Cataract
Hi Jairam, I am a patient of Rp since childhood, and got operated for cataract on both eyes during a span of six months. I got the cataract operations done at Sankara Netralaya, Chennai. The operation is similar to the one performed for general patients and there is no need of any special precautions to be adhered for a RP patients. The surgery may not improve the vision greatly, as for non RP patients, But it will surely improve the clarity and sharpness in the vision, by removing the haziness caused by the cataract. Hope these info satisfies your doubt. In case you need more clarification please feel free to call me on my mobile number given at the signature below. Re: [AI] help sought for find option in ms word 2003
Instead of continuing with the dialogue box, why don't you press the control page down to find the next occurrence once you've already performed a single search item by pressing control F? - Original Message - From: mukesh jain To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Tuesday, August 25, 2015 12:18 AM Subject: [AI] help sought for find option in ms word 2003 Hello, I am facing strange problem in Microsoft word 2003 while finding specific text in a document. The response would be obliged. Hello, Vau! Thanks for perfect solution, it works like charm. On 8/25/15, Vikas Kapoor dl.vi...@gmail.com wrote: Instead of continuing with the dialogue box, why don't you press the control page down to find the next occurrence once you've already performed a single search item by pressing control F? - Original Message - From: mukesh jain To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Tuesday, August 25, 2015 12:18 AM Subject: [AI] help sought for find option in ms word 2003 Hello, I am facing strange problem in Microsoft word 2003 while finding specific text in a document. The response would be obliged.
