Subject: [AI] A friendly reminder to all the visually challenged employees
of banking and financial institutions to participate in the survey by vibewa

Respected bankers,
in its long march VIBEWA is stepping into second year.
The first year was spent to organize and establish the common platform
for visually impaired banking and finance employees.
our own website
www.vibewa.org
was developed, contacts were established with Banking and financial
institutions and some basic information was collected through RTI.
To achieve our objective of equal opportunity and dignity in work
place, our issues and demands are to be placed before appropriate
authorities and strong negotiations have to be carried out.
For this we need to prepare charter containing number of VI bankers,
their working conditions, challenges faced by them, administrative and
technical solutions to resolve them , existing government guidelines,
new guidelines that are to be passed etc.
For this, some basic information is collected through RTI. However,
we have to hear direct lived experiences of the VI employees. To
collect this a detailed survey is being conducted among VI bankers. A
survey format is designed and is available in the link:
http://www.vibewa.org/vibewa-task-force-survey/

Most of us might be knowing the guidelines issued by D O P T
department of personal and training.
It was issued on 31st march 2014 for all the government sectors
Vibewa has taken initiation to extend the same to banking sectors on
november 12th 2014.
It includes certain important provisions for persons with disabilities.

1. providing basic facilities
2. identifying suitable jobs
3. providing assestive devises
4. providing training [ induction, special, pre promotional, periodical]
5. allow to write exams with the help of scribe and extra 20 minutes
of time per hour in exams
6. providing audio instructions and brail displays
7. exemption from transfers on promotion and exemption from rotien transfers
8. appoint a liason officer
9. establish a grievence addressel cell
10. special casual leave [4] in addition to 12 c l
11. special casual leave [10] to attend seminars, workshops for our
growth and development
We also have circulars issued by RBI AND IBA which instructs all the
public secgtor banks to provide all the facilities for visually
challenged persons like
1. account
2. a t m
3. I n b
4. cheque book
5. lockers
6. loans
But very well known fact is that, most of the banks are not following the
given guidelines.
Taking all these points into consideration,
Vibewa has taken a step forward to extract the status of visually
challenged banker individually,
And
Consolidate the same
And the
Report will be used
for redressal.
We would assure that personal details and information
provided by you is very highly confidential and will be used for a good
cause.
We request all the Visually challenged employees of banking and financial
institutions to participate in the survey.
We request each one of you to create awareness among all the VIBs to
 participate in the survey.
The survey has started from September 21st 2015
And
Will be available till
October 20th 2015.
Note*** The persons who have filled the survey form from September
22nd to September 25th 2015 should submit again,
As the data is not updated due to server issues.
The participants would receive a mail after successful submition of
the form as a conformation.
So, dear VI Banking and finance employees, here is the chance: do come
up with your true problems and solutions and make a difference.
It does not matter, whether you are a member of VIBEWA, or VIB-India
or not. If you are working in a bank or financial institution and
happen to be blind or low vision, please fill in the survey.
The data would be kept strictly confidential and would only be used in
a aggregated manner to know the status of work conditions in the banks
for VI.
We thank all the persons who have already participated in the survey.
We have 250 participants till now.
But we have only one or two respondents from some banks like
Uco bank,
Dena bank,
Bank of maharashtra,

I d b i,
Indian bank,
Corporation bank,
Syndicate bank,
Vijaya bank,
S b b j,
S b p,
S b m,
S b t,
And
Central bank of india.

Kindly spread a word if you have already participated.
Let us join hands for a good initiation.
Vibewa team.

[AI] FYI: Novel writing workshop for budding authors

2015-10-09 Thread avinash shahi
One could take advantage of this workshop; hurry up!
http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-newdelhi/novel-writing-workshop-for-budding-authors/article7740969.ece
With self-publishing making it easy for budding authors to get their
work out there, many people feel encouraged to start writing. While
online bookstores and e-books have helped them reach readers, many
still require guidance to get cracking.

Furthering its endeavour to foster alternative endeavours and giving
Delhiites a space that provides an open canvas where one can indulge
in their passions and inspirations, antiSOCIAL in Hauz Khas Village is
organising a hands-on two-day session on novel writing beginning on
Saturday. The endeavour is a part of a monthly series of fun and
useful workshops being organised at what the owners of the space call
a “lab”.

The two-day introductory course is tailored for beginners who are in
the process of writing their first book. The workshop will also be an
opportunity for some writers to get their work published by Grapevine
India. The instructor for the workshop is Sachin Garg, who has sold
over half a million copies of his books in India and is also the
founder of Grapevine India publishers.

The workshop will include conceptualising a novel together, where the
group provides the characters, the plot and the conflict for a story.
The aim of this discussion will be to bring out the dynamics of novel
writing. The workshop will then proceed through, taking a popular
reference book to discuss the deeper nuances of novel writing and
discuss how the author concerned handled the challenges of writing the
book.

The tools used will include videos to discuss the five most popular
tropes and techniques used by writers to build up conflict in a story.
Attendees will also get an insight into how the publishing industry
works in India and abroad, and what exactly a publisher is looking for
when he/she decides on going ahead with a book.

Guest speakers will include Business World and exchange4media group
chairman Anurag Batra.

The workshop will be held at antiSOCIAL in Hauz Khas Village between 2
p.m. and 7 p.m. It has a maximum capacity of 30 attendees and is a
ticketed event.

The workshop will also be an opportunity for some writers to get their
work published by Grapevine India

[AI] Daily Eyeway Alerts

2015-10-09 Thread Eyeway Helpdesk
Dear All:

Greetings from the Eyeway Helpdesk!

Follow below the Daily Eyeway Alerts:

1. News-

Imagine a life without sight. Scary and difficult isn't it? Eyes are
such an important organ of the human body. They allow us to see the beauty
of this wonderful world. Yet, we pay so little attention to our eyes. If we
have fever or an upset stomach we immediately rush to a doctor. But if we
suffer regular headaches or squint while reading or have trouble seeing
distant objects, we delay going to an ophthalmologist till the problem
takes a serious turn. Why is eye-care so low down our priority list? Why do
we neglect such a vital organ? According to the WHO, globally about 285
million people are visually impaired
;

39 million of them are blind while 246 million have poor vision. The
causes of moderate and
severe vision impairment worldwide are uncorrected near-sightedness,
farsightedness and astigmatism. India's numbers are even more shocking. Our
country holds the dubious distinction of being the "blind capital of the
world
"

India is home to 40% of the world's blind population; one-third of our
population needs glasses but doesn't have access to them. Source:

since birth, but is more alert and active than the sighted.”Mobile thief
arrested after visually impaired Ambernath resident trips him at Dadar
railway station, holds him down in a vice-like grip until cops arrive; not
the first time he's caught a swindler red-handed . On World Sight Day, as
Kishor Gohil waited for a train at Dadar station, he felt a hand in his
pocket – the pocket that held his iPhone. Visually impaired since birth,
the 44-year-old was determined that the pickpocket shouldn’t get away.
Thinking on his feet, he first tripped the crook and then pinned him to the
ground until the police arrived. Ironically, while World Sight Day is
marked to increase global attention on blindness and vision impairment,
Gohil was struck by the apathy of fellow commuters who stood around as the
thief struggled to get out of his clutches. Yesterday, Gohil had gone to
Dadar station with his friend’s daughter. “She was not feeling well, so I
was going to drop her to Mira Road. We were standing at platform number 3,
waiting for the 3.07 pm Virar fast train. We were standing near the
handicapped section, when I felt someone’s hand in the pocket where I had
kept my iPhone 5S. The person was about to pull it out, but I caught hold
of his hand. I started shouting, ‘chor, chor’, when the thief pushed me
away,” Gohil told mid-day. “I immediately stretched my foot out and sent
the thief crashing to the ground. I grabbed his legs and pinned him to the
ground. Once again, I began to yell. The thief struggled hard, but I was
determined to keep him there till the police arrived,” added the Ambernath
resident, who is part of a band called Roshni, which includes
visually-impaired musicians. “If I can do it, the sighted should also be
alert and come forward to nab criminals. Mobile thefts occur frequently on
local trains. I am amazed that the thief did not even spare a blind
person,” Gohil told this paper. Cops impressed

“I appreciate Gohil for his alertness. We will reward him for his bravery.
Most people who witness such incidents ignore it, but he took action. We
will also try to get his phone back from the court as soon as possible,”
the inspector added. Source:

Ensure eye care for all by Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director,WHO
South-East Asia Region. WHO South-East Asia has 140 million visually
impaired people. The Region has an estimated 12 million blind people, 8
million of them in India. More than 50% of all blindness is caused by
cataract which accounts for 33% of visual impairment. Uncorrected
refractive errors are responsible for 43% of the visual impairment in the
Region. About 65% of the visually impaired people are 50 -year old and
above. These statistics should be viewed against the fact that 80% of
visual impairment is avoidable. And that the blindness prevention

that is, it is supported by the largest number of hardware readers,
