By doing the genetic test you cannot prevent the disease but can only predict
if it is going to occur.

Re: [AI] RP father

2015-10-15 Thread Kotian, H P
Hi
It is best to get opinion from a councellor. However, for general info, let me
answer
in this case if the child is a girl, the chances goes a little high, however,
if the child is a boy the chances drops considerably.
Further, if the problem is running in her mother's family tree, the chances of
it being carried down gives higher probability. If it is running in her fathers
side, chances gets even.

if the same query is framed differently:
If the boy is having RP and the girl is able bodied?
the chances is even for a boy and a girl child
However, if the girl child is able bodied then the chances of her being a
carrier drops sharply.
Harish.

2015-10-15 Thread Dr.B.S.M.Kumar
Dear Akash,
It depends upon the type of RP, whether it is Autosomal Dormant,
Autosomal Recessive, or X linked. In addition, it depends upon the
family history. As I've pointed out in my earlier mail, on this
thread, all the answers to your question can be obtained during the
counselling session with a good Medical genetist.
Hope this helps,
regards,

[AI] awareness on white cane day

2015-10-15 Thread Dhananjay Bhole
Dear all,

Good think to share with you.
Yesterday i was interviewed by Red FM on the occasion of international
white cane day. The RJ was asking me about our rutine challenges and
accessibility barriers. I took opportunity to spread awareness about
accessibility. I pointed out about accessibility barriers of persons
with disabilities specially inaccessibility of transport (transit)
systems in Pune. I also talked how we can make environment accessible
by contributing in government's accessibility initiative(accessible
india campaign).
I appeal all to contribute in making barrier free environment in India
for persons with
disabilities.

Such kind of programs can spread word of accessibility at all the level.

In Maharashtra, in addition to Rajesh's email, PWD employees are
allowed to either come to office half an hour late or leave from
office half an hour early. Either of the two.

Dear Umesha,
Yes they do suggest genetic testing. The tests are not cheap. The cost
range from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000. In fact, the genetic specialist
will be able to predict the inheritance of the disease to the future
generation during the counselling session, with the help of your
family tree.
In case you need the contact information of the genetic specialist,
please contact me off list and I will provide the same to you.
Hope this helps.

There are genetic counseling centers available at hospitals like

account factors like family history, marriage amongst blood relatives,
etc. They will give a probability of the next generation picking up
the disease. Having said this, its only probability and nothing can

Re: [AI] How to read protected pdf file

2015-10-15 Thread Bharat
You may use the ocr feature of JAWS. Insert+space, followed by the
letters o & d. it may prompt you to give the password of those pdfs
which you already have. once you do that, JAWS may present a
navigable, accessible ocr window. I know NVDA too has features for the
same but I don't know anything about that.
sorry.

[AI] Update on Talking ATM India

2015-10-15 Thread Prashant Naik
Dear Friends,

Greetings on World White Cane Day.

Talking ATM India website http://talkingatmindia.org help us in searching
closest Talking ATMs using various platforms like computer, mobile, tablet,
etc, with convenience and quick search. It is equally usable on iPhone and
iPad.

Sharing new features and updates:

- Total Talking ATM locations available are now 5365 from previous 5158.

- Standard Chartered bank and HSBC added new Talking ATM locations which
are added.

- Standard Chartered bank addresses increased from 34 to 231 covering many
good locations like

1. International airport terminal 1, airport express departure as well as
at arrival location, New Delhi-110 037, offsite, 1st ATM.

2. F-230, New Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi 110 060, offsite, 1st atm (May be
near Saksham Delhi)

3. 58, Ram Mahal, Opposite Mahim Railway station, Senapati Bapat Marg,
Mahim (W). Mumbai 16, offsite, 1st ATM.

4. Near very famous Marathi drama theater Shivaji Mandir, N.C. Kelkar Road,
Dadar, MUMBAI 400 028, Branch, 1ST ATM.

- Image gallery, a new link added on the website.

- Web Site has good resources on user manual, audio demos, key banking
circulars and more.

- Since January 2015 site got 2455 unique visitors and 10,607 hits.

Other major update is regard to free android app.
Talking ATM locator’ mobile app has now new features

- Add to favorites and

- Copy address.

- Its database is in sync with the website’s 5365 Talking ATM locations.

Mobile app new version 1.5 will be made available on google play store in a
couple of days.

Talking ATM Locator android mobile app is a major contribution by Sagar
Sodah, our own A I list member and a professional mobile programmer.

We are working towards our core objective to make available Talking ATM
locations in India as a single repository with easy search. We are
advocating with banks to make available their Talking ATM data in the
public domain. Spreading awareness and putting efforts in boosting usage of
Talking ATMs. In this direction we will be conducting a session at NAB
Workshop for the Blind, Worli, Mumbai for their 85 Students in this month.

Download free android app ‘Talking ATM locator’ from play store link
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pice.Talkingatmlocatorindia&hl=en

Follow us on Face book https://www.facebook.com/Talkingatmindia for regular
updates.

Please note this site and app has addresses of talking ATMs for the blind
as per banks’ data but not any confirmation about their functionality.

Please share your feedback suggestions to talkingatmin...@gmail.com

Thanks to all for your support.

Regards,
Prashant Naik

[AI] Daily Eyeway Alerts

2015-10-15 Thread Eyeway Helpdesk
Dear All:

Greetings from the Eyeway Helpdesk!

Follow below the Daily Eyeway Alerts:

1. News-

On the occasion of White Cane Day on October 15, we have to address a
serious issue today in India. There are over 16 million blind people and
around 28 million visually impaired people in India. However only a few of
them have been able to accessany help that they deserve from the
authorities. There might be a fortunate few who are rich enough to invest
more on their treatment and ensure that they get equal opportunities but it
is indeed sad that not many people have the resources or knowledge of the
resources or accessibility. If it happens to be a financially weak family,
travelling and staying in a strange city would be very difficult. Cities
like Delhi have metros with tactile paths which helps blind people to
travel. But it is a far dream when it comes to other cities and villages.
In the current scenario, it is commendable to see dedicated organisations
in India like Score Foundation, are striving towards changing the widely
held perceptions of treating the blind as object of charity , by working
towards empowering and enabling them. They do so, by providing information,
for they believe that information can change lives. Score Foundationruns
Project Eyeway which is a knowledge resource for life with blindness. They
have changed lives of many who contacted them, by encouraging and guiding
them with their legal and personal matters, education, career and meeting
their personal counselling needs.

you. If the person has little understanding and ready to here you then only
something positive can happened. However, in bank, people don't want to
listen to you which is first thing and they don't want to be accountable
for there is a risk in it. They think, providing facilities like ATM,
credit card to the visually challenged person is a risk hence they simply
denied. I fully agree with Prashant that there should be a special page on
the bank's website mentioning all facilities of disable since circular
doesn't serve the purpose. I also think there should be a huge fine for the
person whose deny. Anyway, if you really wish to avail credit card of HDFC
bank then you have need to comunicate to higher authorities.

Kind Regards,

Nitin
