Rahul,

We are fixing that for you. the website being javascript enabled, the page
content appears as you go on reading the page. I've got in touch with the
website team and getting it fixed. The page contents will be shown by
default and you won't face this issue. Thanks for your feedback.

Aruni Sir,
We had planned to contact users personally once their details were acquired
in our database. We are now putting in the confirmation email as well.
Thanks for showing interest! And yes, we want to bridge that gap you are
suggesting.

Arjun,
Thanks for preordering! Bands are flexible and not elastic. You needn't
worry about the grip.

Akash,
We will be releasing it in market in about 3-4 months. Looking to get good
amount of preorders to be able to produce it at viable price. Thanks for
showing interest!

Shankar Sir,
We shouldn't be expecting delays on high-end performing phones as you have
listed. We are using Bluetooth LE (AKA Bluetooth 4.0). The classical
Bluetooth has 79 channels, each of which has a width of 1 MHz, while the BLE
is designed to operate on 2.4 GHz ISM band using 40 channels, each with a
width of 2 MHz.

[AI] Eye-D Keypad empowers Android Talkback

2016-04-06 Thread sidnc1986_gmail

Thanks all for participating in our survey few months ago we had conducted.
For those who didn't participate, we had conducted this survey for knowing
whether physical keypads are really needed in today's world.

It seems that almost all of us need a physical keypad. Our survey which gave
us 95% positive response from across the world proved this to us. So here it
is. We have come up with a design for bluetooth keypad that serves our
need. Not only this helps in simple tasks like typing but it empowers
Talkback and also attaches itself on your phone with ease.

Features it offers:
1. Accessible
Keys embossed with patterns for accessibility

2. Hotkeys
Both predefined and customizable hotkeys for convenience

3. Eye-D keypad empowers Talkback
Eye-D keypad enables Talkback features all via a keyboard. Navigate
controls, read text and edit text on the fly without getting into those
difficult gestures. Do all this just the way you have been doing on your
PC's.

4. No more stress on neck
Holding phone in one hand, performing gestures with other and then bending
your neck to listen to Talkback. No need to do all this anymore.

5. Portable
Detachable and sliding formfactor for easy use

6. Ergonomic design for easy grip
All keystrokes are managed in a way that you need to use only your two
thumbs. Don't let that grip on phone and keypad slip away.

7. Assisting counterpart
it's not just another device, it's a part of your favourite smartphone, fit
for every screen size.

8. Wireless connectivity
Clutter free wireless Bluetooth(LE) design

So go ahead and preorder your Eye-D keypad right away. 20% off on a keypad
specially designed for your Android Smart Phones.

This event not only awarded 3 best ideas but what I like most is a full
batch of 60 students of MBA course of Somaiya Institute of Management
Studies and Research (a knowledge partner of this project) got well
sensitized about persons with blindness through this unique project.
There

were 10 V I participants who presented their ideas with team of 6-8
management students with each V I to present business idea with ROI and
break even. At final stage three ideas got selected by eminent juries from
financial sector, handicapped finance corporation and corporate leaders.
Management course professors were equally involved in this project.

Kudos to Sushmeetha Bubna for developing this concept and empowering 3 V I
persons to start their own enterprise with the help of corporate sponsor
offering subvention loan and a cash prize.

[AI] Facebook rolls out app that describes photos to blind users:

2016-04-06 Thread Syed Mansoor
Facebook rolls out app that describes photos to blind users:
The company also plans to use the technology for its Android app and
make it available through Web browsers visiting its site.

Facebook is training its computers to become seeing-eye guides for
blind and visually impaired people as they scroll through the pictures
posted on the world’s largest online social network.

The feature rolling out on Tuesday on Facebook’s iPhone and iPad apps
interprets what’s in a picture using a form of artificial intelligence
that recognises faces and objects. VoiceOver, a screen reader built
into the software powering the iPhone and iPad, must be turned on for
Facebook’s photo descriptions to be read. For now, the feature will
only be available in English.

Until now, people relying on screen readers on Facebook would only
hear that a person had shared a photo without any elaboration.

The photo descriptions initially will be confined to a vocabulary of
100 words in a restriction that will prevent the computer from
providing a lot of details. For instance, the automated voice may only
tell a user that a photo features three people smiling outdoors
without adding that the trio also has drinks in their hands. Or it may
say the photo is of pizza without adding that there’s pepperoni and
olives on top of it.

Facebook is being careful with the technology, called “automatic
alternative text,” in an attempt to avoid making a mistake that
offends its audience. Google learned the risks of automation last year
when an image recognition feature in its Photos app labelled a black
couple as gorillas, prompting the company to issue an apology.

Eventually, though, Facebook hopes to refine the technology so it
provides more precise descriptions and even answers questions that a
user might pose about a picture.

The vocabulary of Facebook’s photo-recognition program includes “car,”
“sky,” “dessert,” “baby,” “shoes,” and, of course, “selfie.”

Facebook also plans to turn on the technology for its Android app and
make it available through Web browsers visiting its site.

The Menlo Park, California, company is trying to ensure the world’s
nearly 300 million blind and visually impaired people remain
interested in its social network as a steadily increasing number of
photos appear on its service. On an average day, Facebook says more
than 2 billion photos are posted on its social network and other apps
that it owns, a list that includes Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp.

In a Tuesday post, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg hailed the photo
description tool as “an important step towards making sure everyone
has equal access to information and is included in the conversation.”

Re: [AI] Information required on availability of electronic NotePad/ Scribbler.

2016-04-06 Thread Arjun Malhotra
Hello Sir,

I doubt that there is any such standalone device and that too accessable.
However There is a workaround.
You can buy any of those pocket printers which are bluetooth enabled
and can pair with your iPhone or Android Phone.

Since you need physical keyboard you have following options:
1. You can Buy an iPhone because keyboard covers are easily available.
However such keyboard covers requires bluetooth connection for input
purposes you need to constantly connect/disconnect or shuffle between
keyboard cover and the pocket printer because on bluetooth connection
one device can be used at a time.
2. Samsung launched keyboard cover for its Samsung Galaxy S6. This
cover is like a flip cover with transparent flip cover with keyboard.
It does not require any batteries and bluetooth connection as keys in
keyboard physically clicks the corresponding key on the virtual
keyboard when you press the physical key.

*Reviews of this keyboard are not very favourable.*

3. Last year blackberry launched an android phone with physical
keyboard. I guess its called Blackberry priv. Although I'm not sure
about its accessibility.

4. There is another workaround.
You can also connect any keyboard to your phone using OTG. It might
be possible that OEM or manufacturar has disabled this capability of
the phone.

5. If you can lay your hands on any Nokia E series phone your keyboard
issue can be solved. I remember that my E 63 had an option of wireless
printing. I'm not too sure what is ment by wireless printing. That is
whether it is dependent upon bluetooth technology or Wifi. If it is
bluetooth printing what profile is it? anyways I'm not too sure about
its compatibility with modern bluetooth printers.

I remember micromax's subsidiary company Yu launching pocket printer
back in september 2015. You can look for that. There are many other
options as well.

[AI] He is 24, Blind and CEO of a Rs. 10-Crore Company

2016-04-06 Thread Hozefa Tambawala
Srikanth Bolla, CEO of Bollant Industries, has set his sights on changing lives.

Get rid of him. That was the first thing that neighbours told Srikanth
Bolla’s parents when they came to see him soon after his birth in a
remote village in the east coast of Andhra Pradesh 24 years ago. Bolla
was born sightless.

That’s what, he says, scores of parents ordinarily did and still do -
abandon babies born with disabilities. Instead, Bolla’s parents, who
owned a small piece of land in the village and earned only about Rs.
20,000 a year, chose to give him an education.

Today, Bolla is the CEO of Hyderabad-based Bollant Industries, a
company with a turnover of around Rs. 10 crore that employs uneducated
and physically challenged people to manufacture eco-friendly,
disposable consumer packaging solutions out of natural leaf and
recycled paper.

Recently, Ratan Tata invested an undisclosed amount in the company.
Other investors include Srini Raju of Peepul Capital, Satish Reddy of
Dr Reddy’s Laboratories and Ravi Mantha, one of India's more prolific
angel investors.

Bolla started out by accompanying his father to the farm but found he
could not be of much help. So his father decided to send him to
school, which was some 5 km away from home. For two years, he says,
nobody acknowledged his presence in school and he was made to sit on
the last bench. Fellow students did not accept him during physical
training periods.

For the first time in his life, he says, he felt he was the poorest
child in the world because he was so lonely.

His father then moved him to a school for special children in
Hyderabad, where he started topping his class and also played chess
and cricket. Later, he worked with former president APJ Abdul Kalam on
the Lead India project, a movement to empower the youth through
value-based education.

However, despite scoring 90 per cent in Class X, he was not allowed to
take up the science stream because, he claims, he was blind. “I was
made blind by the perception of people,” he says. With the option of
science refused to him, everybody thought he would settle for the
commerce stream. Instead, Bolla sued the state government. “Moving
away from the problem is not in my blood,” he says.

After six months of fighting it out, he was allowed to take up science
with the rider that he was doing so “at his own risk”. By this time,
half of the academic year was over and Bolla did not have books or any
other study material.

A mentor at the college he joined converted all lessons into audio
books. Bolla passed with 98 per cent. But another hurdle followed. He
says he was not allowed to apply for competitive exams because he was
blind.

So, he started applying to universities in the United States and got
admission in four of them, including the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology (MIT) and Stanford University. He opted for MIT and was its
first international blind student.

In 2012, after graduating from MIT, he launched Bollant Industries.
The company now has around 450 employees, 60 per cent of whom are
differently-abled.

The company, with five plants in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and
Karnataka, has started work to set up a larger facility at Sri City in
Andhra Pradesh with an investment of Rs 10-15 crore. It currently
exports 10-15 per cent of its produce to the US, Australia and
Germany.

Life, he says, has taught him many lessons. Compassion is one of them.
“Compassion,” he says, “is not about giving a coin to a beggar at the
traffic signal. It’s showing somebody the way to live and giving them
the opportunity to thrive.”

The world looked at him and said you can do nothing, says Bolla. “But
I look up at the world and say I can do anything."

[AI] Information required on availability of electronic NotePad/ Scribbler.

2016-04-06 Thread Arun dua
Hi friends

After having read and observed the contributions of my friends Young and Old,
on this Forum: I find that

most of the members are very enlightened and some are real intellectuals. The
younger ones are TechnoSavy

having varied expertise. So I decieded to seek help.

I am needing an electronic device to function as a scribbler/ NotePad, to
write notes, make lists or

small Memos which are printed/ produced on thermal paper: Since I have not
learnt Braille and am unable

to use a Braille device.

Most of you must have come across hand-held devices used by sales people
in the airlines or

elsewhere. They handout a printout of the invoice of the item purchased by you
from them. These devices

are programmed to printout item description and prices. However, I need a
device which can print out

anything typed through the traditional or qwerty keypad. The size of the device
can be like a mobile

phone or a tablet.

I had requested Barrier Break also to consider for TechShare: but got no.
Please do let me know if

any such device is available in India or Abroad and how to obtain it.

Thanks

AK Dua

Re: [AI] Fwd: Please comment on accessibility of the Income Tax website

2016-04-06 Thread Amar Jain
Just to get things clear: we are talking about incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in

The problems are:

1. The side links are in the form of menus, which do pose a challenge
while accessing with screen readers. This is post the login.

2. Filling ITR with Java utility is still not accessible, and last
year there was a proposal to drop out the excel utility which never
happened actually.

3. The captcha audio quality is good, however the play captcha image
needs to be labeled such that it reads the same across browsers.

4. The form 26AS does not have a good table navigation (which would
typically be in the domain of TRACES). There are other issues with
TRACES such as their own captcha has no alternate but that can be a
separate discussion.

5. The know your pan and TAN under the services link needs proper
segregation for a screen reader.

[AI] survey for Mumbai

2016-04-06 Thread Kanchan Pamnani
 B M C disability survey

This is a newsitem I read in yesterday's Times of India on Page 8

"BMC Disability Survey

The BMC will be carrying out a disability survey beginning April 5.
Enumerators will be surveying by house-to-house visits and collecting
information of disable persons about disability certificates and other
information."

Please see that proper information is given by you and your family and
please tell your friends too.

These surveys are very useful for advocacy and for changing the systems.
They form the basis of allocation of resources.

However these surveys must be properly done. We as stake holders need to
cooperate, disclose information and proactively ensure that proper data is
recorded.

We cannot hide our disability and we should encourage others to disclose
theirs. Lets get out of the mindset that disability is a stigma.

Kanchan

Re: [AI] Need Contacts visually challenged tax lawyers:

Nagababu
Income tax law is a great area to practise in. You will find most of the
material for giving advice. As you become a senior practitioner you will
find it easier.
What is going to be difficult is filing returns for clients, filing TDS
forms, visiting different ITOs and lots of clerical work which we all do
for most of our careers.
Hope fully it gets more streamlined in the future.
Best wishes for your job.
