Sharad,

My answers are inline.

1 for these requirements of making ppts and writing up article manuscripts and
using statistical softwares such as “R” would it be wiser to switch over to a
windows based platform ?
PL] You can use R from the commandline therefore a mac should work equally
well.

2 would thees statistical softwares be accessible with other screen reader
softwares such as JAWS or NVDA ?
PL] Some of them. I cannot comment on SPSS.

3 are there list members using any of these softwares ? if so , what does your
wisdom say ?
4 what kind of citation managing softwares are accessible with JAWS and NVDA ?
PL] Try Microsoft Word 2016. I do not know of any other citation management
software and cannot comment further.

5 do you know of any way i can pick up and hone my skills using these
softwares i.e JAWS ,NVDA, etc and using those for tasks of making ppts etc ?
PL] There is little documentation on making presentations with screen readers.
I used to teach a course at cavitraining.com on creating presentations which
you may want to get. There is some documentation in jaws help and
accesstechnologyinstitute.com may have something. There are however plenty of
free tutorials on NVDA. One of the most comprehensive one's is at the following
link.

In the name of equality and accessibility, we cannot discount safety.
Recently, I had been to St. Mary's island, it was difficult to change into

boat, fortunately, my family members guided me very well, also the boat

Hi
Another area of genuine concern is while getting on to a motor boat launch.
It is not a problem when you have to board directly from the pier. The
trouble is when you have to go through many boats to reach your boat. The
height of the motor boats are not the same. Both the boats are moving
because of the waves, there is no proper place to have a safe grip. This can
be very risky at times.

I faced this at Andamans and very recently at Calicut. Here we were on an
overnight house boat cruise. I had difficulty while getting on. However, on
the return the next day. He reached before other boats and as a result he
could berth directly. Sometimes there is just a plank put from the shore on
the boat. One should be very careful as there is no support on the sides at
all.

I don't find it intimidating, but it makes quite a feat to the folks
watching by.

Harish.

Dear group members
Warm Greetings, I recently visited Gangtok for a veccation with my family.

During the trip, we were taken for a ride on a rope way, "Damodar rope way".

The manager ticket counter expressed his concern" our company doesn't permit
to board person with disability on ropeway, but we allow all normal person
including 10 month kid"

this is the matter of "lack of sensitivity" or "inhumane"?
Regards
Tausif

[AI] hi there ... just a share about fitness

2018-04-25 Thread Sharad Philip
hi there list members
greetings from bangalore
i am writing this mail in to the list asking for your opinion regarding health
and fitness
i had an interesting conversation with Mr Rishabh who founded the Cure Fit
organisation and also runs the Cult Fit fitness centres . i had contacted their
organisation (he...@cure.fit ) to ask about how they
could accommodate me as a visually impaired person pursuing fitness .
i found him to be very keen about the idea and amenable to working with
suggestions . he says he would like to develop services for people with any
kinds of impairment . he was envisaging training and sensitising his trainers
towards being able to work out with people with special needs . he was wanting
to develop a special module and separate slots . he is also open to the idea of
organising a pick up and drop service for those who need it and is also
considering longer extended trial periods so that decisions need be taken only
after one is comfortable with the concept .
he asked me how many people with visual impairment would be interested
 .
hence , i am putting this out here for the list members . Rishabh says he can
provide these services in both Bangalore and Delhi .
if this is something that you are looking for / interested in , i request you
to please email them on - he...@cure.fit
i have also asked him to explore the feasibility and pragmatics of allowing a
people with visual impairment to work out alongside the regulars . i will be
going to meet him one of these days . their concerns are regarding safety
primarily and the requirement for extra attention from trainers . it will be
good to know some numbers of at least those interested .
hope you are all well
sincerely
sharad

Re: [AI] Fwd: Expressing disappointment- Damodar rope way Gangtok restricts boarding of visually impaired tourist on their rope way

2018-04-25 Thread Kotian, H P
Hi
I have been on many ropeways across the country, never did I face such
predicament. Although I have been to Gangtok a couple of occasions, I don't
recall being on any ropeway there specifically.

On some ropeways, you have to get in and out when the car is in motion, which
can be a concern area for the operator, I personally did not find it
challenging.

I will concede, there is some concerns in those systems. There is no concerns
in point to point systems where the car is not inmotion.

Harish.
