Re: [AI] Daily Eyeway Alerts

2020-04-17 Thread George Abraham
Thanks Vetri for the feedback. I do recognize the limitations of a helpline
since I run one too. The helpline is only effective to the extent of the
support system and service delivery apparatus in a State. Some people are being
helped that is commendable in these desperate times. We live in a country where
the numbers are huge and it is difficult to service all of them specially when
the country was locked down with very little warning. Let us add value to what
is being done and inform the authorities of the unreached persons.

Hi All,

I see the tole free number for differently abled in Tamilnadu being
highlighted. However I am sorry to say that in actual ground reality it has not
been as effective as they claimed. Visually challenged persons selling items in
trains are jobless at the moment and several of them actually trying to reach
that number, but of no use. their claim of delivering esential items at the
door steps of elderly and differently abled may be true in some pockets of
cities in Tamilnadu, but it's certainly not the case in rural parts of the
state. Overall that tole free number has been a joke and personally I know
several individuals who got tired of calling that number and started
approaching other organizations and individuals for help even for their day

2020-04-17 Thread Shruti Pushkarna
Dear all,

Eyeway a national helpline for blind people, is looking for volunteers to
attend calls from persons with disabilities across India and help them with
their immediate challenges during the lockdown due to coronavirus.

Eyeway has been receiving calls from people asking for essential services,

them etc. To serve a larger section of disabled population, we need more
hands.

Volunteers can function from their locations, must have access to a phone

If willing, please contact us on 9819034040 or 9818777201. Or you can send
us an email on geo...@eyeway.org or shruti.pushka...@eyeway.org

Dear All,

Greetings from the National Eyeway Helpdesk.
Please, find the below Daily Eyeway Alerts:

Helpline for disabled & elderly people in Tamil Nadu gets thousands of
calls during lockdown.
The Commissionerate for the Welfare of the Differently-Abled in Tamil
Nadu had started a helpline number to reach out to disabled and
elderly people in the state. Officials are receiving thousands of
calls everyday. The initiative is indeed a remarkable one. Activists
say there is also a need for concerned departments to look at the big
picture of requirements for disabled people.
Thousands of people with disabilities across India have been affected
by the lockdown, which has now been extended till 3 May. Tamil Nadu,
where there are over 3 lakhs disabled people, is undoubtedly one of
the worst affected states. Commissionerate for the Welfare of the
Differently-Abled had started a helpline for disabled and elderly
people in the state. According to officials, the helpline number is
now flooded with calls with over 15,000 calls being made in a span of
few days. Source:
