an IAS Exam By K.Vijayakarthikeyan

Vishy’s worst nightmare—failing the UPSC’s Civil Services exam—has come
true.

He is plagued by insecurity, fear and doubts. The mother of all competitive
examinations has rejected him and he needs a reason to live. So, what does
he do?

In Once Upon an IAS Exam, twenty-five-year-old Vishy tries to overcome the
uncertainty and confusion about his future and figure out ways of
convincing Rithika to marry him. Things turn even more interesting, funny
and emotional as Vishy reattempts to conquer ‘Mount IAS’. As he tries to
take his academic and love life towards safety, he seeks refuge in the
world of IAS coaching centres.

This book has been specially made for our visually impaired friends in an

Re: [AI] New Parliament library logsabha getting inaugurated tomorrow

2023-04-13 Thread Harish Kotian

Hi

This is interesting. The membership cannot be individual, then it ought
to be inter-library. If this is the case then the books available in
this library can therefore be shared with Sugamyapustakalaya on a
reciprocity basis.

Can someone confirm this? Can we start with the catalog list of titles
available in the parliament library?

Re: [AI] GMAT and MBA

2023-04-13 Thread Krishna Bodawala
Hi Dhruv,

Best of luck on your journey.
Regarding the admission process,
1. Short list the college you wanted apply for
2. Check do you meet their criteria’s, and what do you required to
appear for GRE or GMET
3. If so, get in touch with the college office of disability,
regarding what kind of accommodation they can provide you
4. Regarding scholarship, I am unaware of, but there is 1 scholarship
provided by government, but under that scholarship, you have to apply
for J1 visa, not F1

Hope that helps.

Best,

[AI] Andhra Pradesh schools to be inclusion-ready for children with special needs by 2025

2023-04-13 Thread Naresh kumar P.
Andhra Pradesh schools to be inclusion-ready for children with special
needs by 2025

Andhra Pradesh government’s Samagra Siksha, Kerala-based NGO Chakshumathi
and Anantapur-based Rural Development Trust (RDT) have come together to
make all the 46,000 government schools in the State inclusive
pedagogy-ready by March 2025. As part of the masterplan, Chakshumathi and
RDT have so far trained 400 government teachers in digital inclusive
pedagogy. This programme will be launched across in the State on May 8.

The spadework for the programme was done by RDT-run Inclusive High School
in Anantapur, where digital inclusive pedagogy has been doing wonders for
the first batch of six visually impaired girls who are attending their
Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations without any scribe.

The State government made all arrangements at Rapthadu Zilla Parishad High
School (examination centre) in the district to enable these Children With
Special Needs (CwSN) to get a digitally converted question paper that
supports a screen-reading software.

Director of Chakshumathi Ram Kumar Manoj told The Hindu that under phase-1
master training programme to be launched on May 8 in Anantapur, a new batch
of 400 master trainers would be created in 26 districts. These trainers
would in turn train school assistants in government schools till May 2024.

In the first phase of training teachers in inclusive pedagogy, 12 districts
have been selected—Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam,
Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Alluri Seetharama Raju, Kakinada, Konaseema,
East Godavari, Eluru, West Godavari and Krishna. Mainstream teachers who
attend these on-site workshops join Chakshumathi learning management system
(LMS) to undergo a certificate course for 14 days to 3 months on digitally
accessible teaching pedagogy and inclusive awareness to identify the needs
of CwSN and support them.

The phase-2 master training programme for creating 200 master trainers from
the remaining districts will begin on May 25 for school assistants (special
educators). The path ahead is creating accessible digital ecosystems in
State schools. The digital ecosystem to be created from July 2023 to
December 2024 includes ‘born accessible digital educational content;
creating State born accessible multimode LMS; digital environment creations
in classrooms; Internet and Wi-Fi installations; and online secure
examinations and assessments.

Mr. Ram Kumar explained that ‘born accessible content’ was nothing but
content accessible to people with special needs as well. It applies to all
content that is created by the State for children.
Visit by Consul General of Spain

Upon learning about the initiative, Consul General of Spain in India
Fernando Heredia Noguer visited the school on Monday to witness the
arrangements and the way the visually impaired students were attending
their examination. “The beauty of this inclusive pedagogy is [that]
children irrespective of their status ... learn the lessons at the same
time from the same teacher, and it is probably happening only in India. In
Spain also we have different trainers in a single school for children with
different needs,” he said.

Re: [AI] need help with power point

2023-04-13 Thread Khandu Bhandare
Hi ishant, I understood your concern, When creating a presentation, it
is important to keep in mind that not all visual elements, such as
images and charts, may be accessible to individuals with visual
impairments. It is recommended to use descriptive text and alt tags
for images to make the presentation more accessible.

Do you try to navigate in slides by pressing tab from title place
folder to object or vice versa? If not then please try navigating
with tab key.

Additionally, it may be helpful to practice delivering the
presentation using JAWS or other screen reader software beforehand to
ensure that the presentation is understandable and effective for
individuals with visual impairments.

Here are some helpful JAWS commands for using PowerPoint:

To read the title of the current slide: Press the "JAWS Key + T".

To read the text on a slide: Press the "JAWS Key + CTRL + Alt + Arrow
keys". Use the arrow keys to navigate through the text on the slide.

To move between the different elements on a slide: Press the "Tab" key.

To move between the different slides in the presentation: Press the
"JAWS Key + Page Up" or "JAWS Key + Page Down" keys.

To start the slide show: Press the "F5" key.

To advance to the next slide: Press the "Spacebar" key or the "Right Arrow" key.

To go back to the previous slide: Press the "Left Arrow" key.

To exit the slide show: Press the "Escape" key.
hope this will be helpful for you.

Re: [AI] need help with power point

2023-04-13 Thread Minar Singh
Hi,

Have you try to repair a JAWS by running installer file and checked? I
don't know you are working in which organisation. NVDA is a powerfull
software much better than JAWS. I too work with the reputed global
level MNC and NVDA is a primary screen reader during accessibility
testing. Microsoft has plan to make their applications accessible with
NVDA. I think you are facing compatibility issue newer version of
screen reader some time do not work well on older version of operating
System. but NVDA will surely work. Try to convince your project lead
that not all the application will work with the single screen reader.
Having more than 1 screen reader installed in your system will make
you more productive. Your global IT team should not have any
difficulty in allowing NVDA..

[AI] Do you suffer from shop blindness? I’ve struggled to locate coconut milk for years | Adrian Chiles

2023-04-13 Thread avinash shahi
Is shop blindness a thing? If it is, I’m afflicted. It happens when
I’m in a big shop that sells millions of things and I simply can’t
find what I’m looking for, even though I know it’s there. This happens
most frequently in supermarkets, where paralysis of choice is often
the problem. So many peanut butters. So many toilet rolls. So many
washing powders. How? Why? And then there’s that thing they do where
they move sections around. No sooner do you get used to the layout
than it’s inexplicably all changed. The cooking oils go where the
herbs and spices once were, which are now where the pulses were. I’ve
struggled to locate the coconut milk ever since it first went on
manoeuvres just before the pandemic. How much fun they must have
watching us on CCTV, bewitched, bothered and bewildered, scurrying
hopelessly up and down aisle after aisle. I forgive them. It must get
boring running a supermarket. Let them have their sport.

It’s in Boots that I struggle the most, and I apportion no blame to
them. I can just never get to what I’m looking for. I think it’s
because most of the stuff they stock is of a similar, smallish size. I
just see a retina-burning riot of colours with nothing coming into
focus. I walk away, floss-less, vitamin-less, antacid-less, clueless.
I have no idea if they’re guilty of moving stuff around because I so
rarely find it in the first place.

Worst of all are garden centres. A low-lying jungle of plants opens up
before me. I either know what I’m looking for and can’t find it, or
more often, don’t know what I’m looking for and need guidance. Either
way, there’s never anyone around to help. I execute elaborate
twisting, figure-of-eight style laps of the place hoping to chance
upon a human being. Occasionally, I resort to parting the branches of
the bigger trees and bushes to see if anyone is hiding within. Always
in vain. My garden remains bare.

Re: [AI] Most accessible setup box

2023-04-13 Thread Bharat
Prashant sir,

would you know if the Fire tv stick is any better than the airtel
accessibility? although they have the things like google assistant
in-built, but when comes to pulling out programmes, the accessibility
goes for a toss.

Thank you,
Bharat.

 Hi all,

Thank you for your response. The reason for my intention to move away
 are many.

Firstly, airtel insts that one has to keep on paying even if wants
to only use all the apps on the setup box. In which case it is a
 waste of money.
secondly, they haven't updated the OS of the setup box whereas google
has pushed far too many updates for the TV OS.

I am looking for an interface, whether, apple, android or fire stick,
wherein i shouldn't have to pay for the channel subscriptions because
i want to be able to watch all of the programmes via the apps & not
 through the chanels.

also, wherein the screen reader should provide the spoken interface
even within the apps & we should be able to search & programmes with
the help of screen reader & don't have to depend on any sighted
 assistance at all.

Hope, i have been able to clarify my concerns.

 thank you,

 Bharat.
