Re: [AI] Disappointment judgement of Delhi HC

2023-06-12 Thread Ketan Kothari
Dear Murali,

This certainly needs to be challenged. I had discussed the matter
with Shree Rajesh Aggarwal, our department secretary and he had also
concurred. The problem here is the judges are not exposed to
hardships of the disabled and in many cases, they go by their common
understanding.

Sad indeed!

[AI] Accessibility Issues for Visually Impaired Users on Flipkart Application

2023-06-12 Thread KNS
Dear Flipkart Team, I hope this message finds you well. My name is Kallam
Naga sai, and I am a visually impaired user of your Flipkart application. I
am reaching out to bring to your attention an issue that I have been facing
while using your application with TalkBack, a screen reader for visually
impaired individuals on Android mobile devices. Firstly, I want to express
my gratitude for providing a platform like Flipkart, which has enabled many
visually challenged individuals like myself to access a wide range of
products conveniently. However, I am currently encountering difficulties in
using the application with TalkBack. The main problem lies in the fact that
certain sections of Flipkart are not accessible through TalkBack, rendering
it challenging for me to navigate and use the app effectively.
Specifically, when I use TalkBack to browse through products, it fails to
read out important information such as product names and details. This
severely hinders my ability to make informed decisions and select the right
products for my needs. I want to emphasize that this issue is not related
to TalkBack itself, as other applications I use with TalkBack do not
exhibit this problem. It seems to be an inherent accessibility flaw within
the Flipkart application. As a loyal user of your platform, I kindly
request you to address this accessibility concern and make the necessary
changes to ensure that Flipkart becomes fully accessible for visually
impaired individuals, including those who rely on TalkBack. By enhancing
the accessibility features of your application, you would not only greatly
improve the experience for me but also for countless other visually
challenged individuals who rely on Flipkart to meet their shopping needs. I
understand that creating an accessible application involves technical
challenges, but I implore you to consider the needs of blind and visually
impaired individuals when designing and updating your platform. Small
adjustments and improvements can go a long way in making a significant
positive impact on our lives. Thank you for taking the time to read my
feedback. I sincerely hope that you will take this matter seriously and
work towards making Flipkart fully accessible for visually impaired users.
I believe that by doing so, you will not only demonstrate your commitment
to inclusivity but also gain the loyalty and appreciation of a large
community that greatly values your services. Best regards, Kallam Naga sai

[AI] Disappointment judgement of Delhi HC

2023-06-12 Thread Muralidharan Vishwanath
June 12, 2023

*Press Statement*

In a Writ Petition {W.P.(C) 2501/2019}, the National Platform for the
Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) had prayed before the Delhi High Court to set
aside a circular issued by the Indian Railways making it mandatory for
disabled persons desirous of availing concessions for rail travel to
procure a separate photo ID card issued by the railways. It was forced to
seek legal remedy given the obstinate stance of the Railways.

The Court in its order delivered recently, even while acknowledging that
the disability certificate issued by the appropriate authority is “valid
across India”, contradicts itself by upholding the legitimacy of the
issuance of a separate ID card by the railways.

The NPRD had contended that apart from the universal validity of the
disability certificate issued by a competent authority, the very purpose of
the Unique Disability Identity Card (UDID) issued by the Department for
Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) of being a “single document
of identification, verfication of the disabled for availing various benefits
” stands defeated,
with the railways adamant on issuing its own separate ID card.

The judgment comes at a time when the DEPwD has made the possession of the
Unique Disability Identity Card (UDID) mandatory for availing benefits
under all central government schemes from April 1, 2023, even while it has
failed in getting the Railways to accept it.

Unfortunately, the Court has completely overlooked the contention of the
petitioner that the Railways are violating the mandate of the Rights of
Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (RPD Act).

Equally baffling is the fact that even though the NPRD had not sought any
relief with regard to concessions, the entire order is premised on this
ground, which is, to put it mildly, a faulty reading of the petition. Of
the total nine pages of the order, five and a half pages are devoted merely
to detailing the various types of concessions in fares that the railways
are providing. Be that as it may, concessions cannot be viewed as some sort
of largesse, but as a matter of the duty of the State towards the
marginalised and disadvantaged.

The NPRD, while expressing its strong displeasure, will be challenging this
in the Supreme Court.

Re: [AI] query regarding auto volume leveler and volume normalization

2023-06-12 Thread Yamuna Jivana dasa (Yogan)
Dear Vishnu,
VLC Media Player has a real-time volume leveller.
As the audio passes through it, the dynamic compressor will level the audio to
the desired same value before outputting it to the sound card of your computer.
This means you don’t have to adjust the recorded volume of each audio file
(although if you want, there are also tools for doing that such as SoundForge
or the free Audacity software).

But in VLC Media Player, there are two steps to manage this process.
First you have to enable the compressor. This is done here:
(tools menu -> preferences -> show all settings -> audio -> filters ->
compressor ).
Detailed steps:
Open PREFERENCES
Show ALL (to get the advanced settings)
Expand the menu tree if necessary so that you can see AUDIO and under it FILTERS
Select FILTERS (don't expand the tree)
Make sure the dynamic range compressor box has a check mark in it so the text
field has "compressor" appear in it.
Save the settings.

Now that you have enabled it, it is time to adjust the parameters of the
compressor to work the way you want. This is a little clunky because this is in
a totally different menu after it is enabled (as above). So:
ctrl-e menu (tools menu -> effects and filters -> compressor).
Here you adjust the parameters, but I cannot explain the complete science of
audio compression because that will be too detailed, so I will just give you a
sample of parameters to adjust to for best settings:
Threshold, try around –28 DB.
Ratio: Try around 8.0 : 1.
Gain: Try around 20 to 24 DB.
Attack: Try around 2.0
Release: Try around 180.0.
Now save this as a preset so you can re-use it in future.
Note this might require sighted help but once you have enabled it, VLC is very
accessible for playing back and navigating through audio and video files.

Hope this helps.

To: AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerning the
disabled.
Subject: [AI] query regarding auto volume leveler and volume normalization

Dear Access Indian,

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to seek your expert advice and
guidance regarding an issue I am facing with the volume levels of some
downloaded songs from YouTube.

Recently, I downloaded several songs from YouTube in MP3 format and converted
them for personal listening. While everything else seems fine, the major
challenge I am encountering is that the volume levels of these songs are
inconsistent. Some tracks have excessively high volumes, while others are too
low. This inconsistency in volume has been causing inconvenience while playing
them on my Windows Media Player.

I attempted to address this issue by enabling the auto volume level feature in
Windows Media Player. However, I did not achieve the desired results. In my
search for a solution, I also tried using online services like mp3louder.com.
Unfortunately, the outcomes from these services did not meet my expectations,
as the volume normalization process they offered did not provide the desired
balance across all the songs.

I want your help in the followings:

1.. A free accessible software or online service which offers 99% accuracy
while doing the volume normalization process.
2.. Once I select the desired decibel, it should offer the multiple files
volume normalization at a time.
3.. Before saving / downloading the normalized volume file, it should provide
preview play.
4.. Any Bluetooth speaker or media player (for windows) which offer auto
volume level facility with close to 100% accuracy.

I would greatly appreciate any advice or recommendations you can provide to
help me normalize the volume levels of these songs effectively. Whether it's a
specific software tool, an alternative approach, or any other insights, your
guidance would be invaluable to me.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my email, and I look forward to
hearing from you soon. Please feel free to reach out to me if you require

any further information or clarification.

Sincerely,

Vishnu

Re: [AI] Including Accessibility tab in Google Maps

2023-06-12 Thread Saurav Hegde
Hello,
Thats a good Idea, you can certainly go ahead
A basic overview of a building can definitely increase predictability.
Also, slightly off topic, there should be a feature in maps that reads out
your current location like in other apps like lizerelo.
I have not been able to find my current location presented in text format.

regards
Saurav

[AI] query regarding auto volume leveler and volume normalization

2023-06-12 Thread Vishnu Ramchandani

  1. A free accessible software or online service which offers 99% accuracy
while doing the volume normalization process.
  2. Once I select the desired decibel, it should offer the multiple files
volume normalization at a time.
  3. Before saving / downloading the normalized volume file, it should provide
preview play.

Sincerely,
Vishnu
