Re: [AI] Panel to study idea of univ for students with disabilities Mumbai

2023-12-22 Thread anirudh rao
Being a professor in a private college, I discourage any attempt of making
a separate university for the disabled.
We have many separate schools for the blind and we know the state of
affairs in most of the states.
I do not understand why the people in the government get those thoughts and
why our community supports something which sidelines us.
The better avenue is to create/strengthen the EOCs.

[AI] Panel to study idea of univ for students with disabilities Mumbai

2023-12-22 Thread Kanchan Pamnani
Panel to study idea of univ for students with disabilities Mumbai : The
state government has set up a 15-member committee to study the possibility
of a separate university for persons with disabilities. While students with
disabilities are currently enrolled across state universities in a variety
of courses, the exercise will also be undertaken to see if there is a need
for a separate university, and if there is, then what will be the future
course of action. The state committee will consider all aspects of the
Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, which promotes inclusive
education. It will study if a separate university will lead to an increased
sense of alienation among students. The committee, set up by the higher and
technical education department, is expected to submit its report in two
months' time. In line with the National Education Policy, 2020, the state is
keen on taking appropriate measures towards facilitating higher education to
all persons with disabilities. The committee will see if this university, if
necessary, can be a standalone multidisciplinary teaching and
research-oriented university. It has also been asked to study the
feasibility of a centre or a department for students with disabilities in
traditional universities instead of a standalone university.

[AI] Accessbility Review Series - Amazon

2023-12-22 Thread Mission Accessibility
Hi everyone,

Accessibility Review Series is an initiative by Mission Accessibility to
evaluate the accessibility of online platforms for people with disabilities
(PWD). We conduct online surveys of the PWD community through mission
accessibility community group , asking them to review apps based on
different accessibility parameters. Our goal is to highlight areas of
innovation in digital accessibility while constructively noting weaknesses
still needing improvement. By publishing reviews from the PWD lens paired
with suggestions, we aim to create awareness for online platforms towards
better serving disabled users through inclusive design.

This time we are reviewing the e-commerce platform Amazon. Please fill out
the attached form detailing your experience as a PWD using their site. We
will maintain anonymity of all responses received. We look forward to your
active participation and contribution as we strive to constructively
improve accessibility of digital platforms.
