Re: [AI] Inquiry Regarding Accessible Laptops for the Visually Impaired

2024-01-15 Thread Saurav Hegde
Hi sir,
All windows and mac laptops are accessible.
In-case you are new to this topic, you can install a screen-reader on any
laptop to make it accessible and microsoft and apple have their default
screen-readers which you have to enable for totally blind users to use them.
Buy any laptop as you would for a normal person according to your budget
and which matches the criterias you have mentioned.
In terms of Mack, Apple's default Voice Over screen-reader is very good and
makes the PC highly accessible.
In-case of windows, You have microsoft Narrator but it is still improving.
You can use third party software like NVDA and JAWS which are more robust.
Hope this helps.

As all numbers in EVM machines are brailled, sometimes it is
difficult to know which number represents which party/independent
candidate. This information should be made available easily. Most of
the times our polling station do not have Braille copies.

2024-01-15 Thread Srinivasu Chakravarthula
At the International Purple Fest, I have seen EVM that has braille labels
and have buttons to use. However, there are no accessibility features for
people with low vision. I think we should both individually and
collectively, reach out to authorities in our areas and start educating
people. Though there can be large advocacy initiatives can take place, we
individually should also spend time and raise awareness. We can even talk
to parties in our area and raise awareness on disability.

[AI] general ellections 2024 and accessibility!

2024-01-15 Thread Praveen Guru
Dear friends,

Greetings, this may be a bit early, but we are just there, general
elections 2024 is just round the corner! Any thoughts on the below will be
helpful as we get prepared for exercising our rights!

1. Accessibility of polling Places? how will we know that the polling
locations are equipped with ramps, elevators, and other facilities to
ensure individuals with mobility impairments can easily access and navigate
the premises?

2. What Assistive Technologies are Available? Will accessible voting
machines and assistive technologies be provided at polling stations to
accommodate voters with different disabilities, such as visual or hearing
impairments? Is election-related information, including voter guides and
ballots, available in accessible formats such as Braille, large print, and
electronic formats?

3. Will Poll Workers be Trained to Assist Voters with Disabilities?

4. What are the measures taken to ensure that transportation options to
polling places are accessible for individuals with disabilities?

The RPD act 2016 recognizes persons with disabilities as equal citizens
with the right to participate in political and public life on an equal
basis with others and calls for accessible voting polling booths,
availability of accessible voting machines and materials to ensure that
persons with disabilities, including visual impairments, can independently
exercise their right to vote.

How do we get to know the services and facilities are available near our
location? Any thoughts welcome!

Kind regards,
