Re: [AI] Digital Accessibility: Usages of List Vs Grid tags

2024-03-06 Thread Srinivasu Chakravarthula
While list layout offers good user experience to users of screen readers,
when we think of universal design and accessibility for all users including
people with disabilities, I will be in favor of grid layout since that
provides better user experience visually and at the same time grids can be
made accessible to assistive technologies too.

Hi

List layout is more usable than grid layout.

Hello everyone,

As you may be aware, SaralX is actively working with corporates,
helping them make their web and mobile apps accessible. Some
corporates are even showing interest in going beyond guidelines and
want to actually improve the usability of their apps. During such
discussions, we came across the uses of ‘grid’ and ‘list’ tags. We
would like to seek your inputs and your experience when you encounter
grid vs. list in an application. One such example of its uses can be
found in the Paytm app.

For iPhone users:

  * List example: After the Banking and Payments heading, it says,
“Scan & Pay button 1 of 8”.
  * Grid example: After the Insurance heading, it says, “Bike
insurance button, row 1 column 1”.

For Android users:

  * List example: After the Bill Payments heading, it says, “Mobile
recharge 1 of 8, double-tap to activate”.
  * Grid example: After the Insurance heading, it says, “Bike
insurance button, row 1 column 1, double-tap to activate”.

Based on this, could you please provide your inputs on the following
questions:

 1. What is your understanding when you hear a list vs. grid example?
 2. How is this useful or useless to you?
 3. Which type of speech-out do you prefer? Why?

In case you have any query, please feel free to revert to this email.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you!

the AccessIndia family. It is the active participation of everyone that

Hi all,

I recently wrote this on social media about our amazing mailing list.
Thank you for all the support you all have given me in my professional
and personal journey.

THE WORLD AS I SEE IT In 2014, through the kind recommendation of a
friend, I joined ‘Access India’. Access India is an emailing list
which has several hundred people with blindness as well as Disabled
Persons’ Organisations across India and beyond. Membership is open to
all, leading to a rich diversity of expertise and experience across
the spectrum of most professional and personal subjects. A person can
write an email to the list, seeking/sharing information on any subject
related to ‘life with blindness’. In most cases, there is an
instantaneous response, often leading to an active discussion. From
NGOs sharing skill building programs for people with blindness, to
enquiries about accessible study material, as well as stories of
discrimination faced due to blindness along with advice on very
personal challenges - this forum is open to all. Above all this, the
mailing list is effectively moderated, ensuring respect and dignity
for all, as well as the relevance of discussion. Despite being a 15+
years old platform, it is commendable that the list continues to be
the go-to place for most blind people, considering the multitude of
communication channels available. Several blind people including
myself owe our personal and professional growth largely to Access
India. Through this post, I express my sincere gratitude to the Access
India mailing list for the pivotal role it has played in my progress.
Experience the impact yourself by referring to this link of Access
India’s page https://www.accessindia.org.in/ What do you think? Are
you part of any such groups? PS: The list was started by Kiran Khaja
and is currently ably moderated and administered by Mr. Harish Kotian.
My friend Rahul Bajaj suggested this list to me. #DisabilityAwareness
