I have attended yesterday's session organised by highway let us wish this
film a great success we hope this will be a block bluster film there was a
passing remark by George Abram sir that the cricket commentary on
television are not blind friendly but I have observed for this IPL season
that Star Plus had started a sports channel that is star plus 3 in which
the commentary is more narrative they are giving ball by ball description
and they have also given sign language sign language interpretation the
commentators are mostly those who have done commentary on radio for example
and it is very blind friendly the world is changing

RE: [AI] A pleasant surprise: It's not just shower gel, and no this is not off-topic for the blind!!

2024-04-27 Thread minalsinghvi
Yes, it's a pleasant moment for us when we can easily manage these kinds of
products without needing anyone's help. Even though I don't read Braille
quickly, I can still understand when I run my fingers over it. But,

Savlon has Braille markings on some of their products for over five years, such
as the hand wash and antiseptic gel. At the Radio Udaan convention, we
distributed these products to raise awareness in our community. However, when
we approached Savlon to extend this feature to all their products, they
mentioned that there is very little demand for such products. It's
disheartening that while we advocate for accessibility publicly, there seems to
be minimal interest when it comes to actual usage. Only a few people here
inquire about accessible products.

Minal

Subject: [AI] A pleasant surprise: It's not just shower gel, and no this is not
off-topic for the blind!!

Hi friends,

A few weeks back, my wife bought some shower gel on Amazon. Seemed like an
ordinary event and I thought nothing of it.

When the package arrived, my eldest son excitedly brought it to me. “Baba!
Baba! Come check this out” he exclaimed as he put the bottle into my hands.

Not thinking much of it I asked “What is this?” without much examination of the
bottle. “sShower gel” he said, still excited. “Feel the bottle”.

Somehow I still didn’t catch on, as I fingered lamely around the bottle’s
edges. “Ok Nice”, I said. “Go pack this away now”.

“No! Feel the face of the bottle. Feel properly.” He insisted. I now knew
something was up so with more alertness I carefully examined the face of the
bottle.

Before I could even figure it out he exclaimed “Braille!” And he was right. Not
just that, but both the front face and on the rear face had a whole lot of
braille.

On the front face across the short side was written in short single lines as
follows:

Fiama

Shower

Gel

On the opposite face, this time along the length of the bottle was written,
again in beautiful braille letters along the length of the bottle this time:

Patchouli

And macadamia

It was uncontracted, no capitalization of letters, the dots felt somewhat faded
on the plastic label, but still it was a pleasant surprise indeed. Coming to
India I wasn’t sure I would ever see beautiful braille again, here in the
village of Vrindavana.

Just for this fact I would like to keep buying this product, to simply say
thank you for remembering us on the fringes of society, while most others see
us as nothing more than disabled people that might at least be able to sing for
some handout. We now bought 4 bottles in total for the moment, and every
morning I can’t help running my fingers over the braille when I take some out
to shower my body. It just feels so warmly familiar.

Just wanted to share this small yet heart-warming story of my own personal
experience.

With kind regards,

Yamuna Jivana dasa

Greetings yamuna:

Hare Krishna!

This is most interesting indeed.

I have never heard of this company but will surely check them out first thing
tomorrow and place an order too.

I also plan to leave a review on Amazon featuring my appreciation post
purchase. I also encourage others to do the same.

As they say, there is strength in numbers.

I have always believed that reservations, promotions, special programs and so
on for our community are mostly lip service. Only a handful of organizations
are performing genuine work like this one.
Thanks and regards,

No, I don’t have any problem to promote braille. Can you tell me how will you print braille on a small box? Please read above message carefully. I think with some practice we can use QR code. the phone, opening the app and scanning the packet.

It will also be handy while looking for medicines at the

The QR also doesn't work quickly because you have to first
scan it using the audio feedback and then it will work.

That too not guarantied because some QRs I tried didn't work

Uber does allow you to define contacts such that you can share your live

2024-04-27 Thread Pranav Lal
Hi Saurav and all,

I too prefer a fixed driver but that introduces a single point of failure.

Most uber drivers in my experience do get you until the main gate. You need to
ask for their help.

Yes, getting to a place beyond the main gate becomes a problem which is where,
at least in offices and at hotels, local guards do help.

My college days are behind me but I suspect the security guard could get you up
till a point assuming he could handover to another guard.

RE: [AI] Post about requesting Dava India pharmacy to use braille on medicine packets.

2024-04-27 Thread george.abraham0
There is a lot of info in print on the medicine packets. Cannot imagine how all
of that in Braille would fit on the packet.

Hello,

My thought is that braille is not understood by all blinds, specially many late
blinds, posing a challenge in such solution.

Of course QR code can come with its challenges too.

In Europe, companies like AZ have adopted including QR in their medicine
packets already as part of their accessibility and carbon emission initiatives.
I recently attended a webinar on that. Here's an article talking about one
such: https://pharmaphorum.com/news/bayer-adds-qr-code-pack-help-blind-patients

Thanks,

Vaibhav

Hi George sir,

You do make a point.

In-fact, I am surprised that I tweeted such a request being the geek I am.

But what I realised is that having braille on the medicine packet will save us
the extra step of taking out or finding the phone, opening the app and scanning
the packet.

It will also be handy while looking for medicines at the store because you
don't have to occupy one hand with the phone.

The QR also doesn't work quickly because you have to first scan it using the
audio feedback and then it will work.

That too not guarantied because some QRs I tried didn't work despite scanning
them.

Feel free to agree or disagree.

Well QR code itself is an inaccessible option.
I support braille when it comes to medicines especially.
QR codes are difficult to locate and focus the cameras for the totally
visually challenged like us.
as expressed here, both would be an ideal choice.
Coming to the question of late blindness, it is always better to learn
braille than complaining.
my opinion anyway.
