Re: [AI] Announcing AccessIndia list for mobile devices

2012-11-16 Thread Pamnani

I agree with Amiyo da on this issue. I think one list was better than 2.
If a mobile device user wanted further help he could have gone to a specific
mailing list for his device. I do think the creation of a list for this
topic is too premature and unnecessary.
I am sure the moderator has thought about it in great detail however I do
think he has been illadvised. I would like to bring to his attention that
this Diwali we have had atleast 20 messages which will require his
moderation and this is the cause of excess mails not the discussion on C5 or
jellybean.

People like me who are moderate users of gadgets learn a lot from just
reading about technology and reading others opinion. I am definitely not
looking forward to subscribing to another list.

Would someone tell me whether my netbook can be considered a mobile device
or not.

I can carry it anywhere so isnt it mobile?
So dear moderator should I take my problems of desktop to this list and my
netbook to the new list.

Or are you assuming that mobile actually means only cellphone.
Lets go further, where should I take my problems about Victor? Should I go
to the new list or should I stay with the old or should I only go to Human
Ware.

In these days of convergence when anything can be done on anything are we a
little out of date, I wonder.

Friends

It gives me pleasure in inviting you to the dedicated list for
discussing issues relating to all mobile devices including Android,
Iphones, Symbian etc.

This also includes mobile phones and Tabs on these platform.

We thought it necessary to have a dedicated sister list of AccessIndia

space.

The moderator of the list shall be Aruni Sharma and myself.

Membership to this list is not automatic and separate membership request

Please note, consequent to this, topics relating to mobile devices shall

Hi Kanchan

Well, well, Mobile phones, tabs would be within the scope of the
mobile.access list.
Maybe it be the Symbian, Iphone,Android, Blackberry or the new Windows
mobile operating system.

As Symbian is on the path to bid adieu, migrating to the other operating
system possesses some special challenges. Some learning and some unlearning
to be done. As a result, considerable traffic is expected in the process.

For those who still want to distance themselves from the inevitable, there
is no need to load them for it. This is the background behind this move.

The new list is archived from day one,and one can catch up at any point.
Just to see what is happening there, one can go to the archive site and have

Hello!
I too agree with Kanchan mam and Amiyo sir. Kanchan mam has put some
really nice arguments and it's true that it becomes immense difficult
for a moderate user to follow two lists instead of a single one.
Though I am among those 75 people who have subscribed to this new
mailing list but Only to increase my knowledge. And it
's also true that I didn't find anybuddy who had similar thoughts as I
had. But now I have both of you so I am also encouraged to write my
viewes and I am totally against this idea of partitioning our
favourite mailing lis. I don't want to hert anybuddy but these are my
personal views.

I do not agree on this. careful observation and research reveals that there
are substantial number of mails on mobile phones. I don't think subscribing
to two lists is a difficult task. I have also joined two groups and active
in both. it has never been a problem. someone may be members of more groups.
but it does not seem to affect the operation.

regarding the issue of the scope of the list, I think it should be mobile
phones rather than mobile devices. however, it is the moderator's task to
define the new group and specify the boundaries between the two groups.

to the question of whether the netbook be considered as mobile device just
because it is carried from one place to another, the argument seems
irrational. we carry many things in our daily life. can we call all of them
mobile devices? regarding victor and other products, the moderator has to
answer.

regarding convergence, has every thing converged so much? can we install
android in desktops and laptops? or can we use windows 7 on Samsung phones?

hello, according to my observation, other mailing lists discuss only the
needs/technical assistance, not the present availability/confinements of the
mobile devices. Moderator is giving you the opportunity to make such things
to be aware , so it depends upon you whether to expose it or not. and also
in another mailing list most of the pirated items are dealt rather
knowledge. so, such mailing lists are not at all helpful for novice I feel.

Subject: [AI] Announcing AccessIndia list for mobile devices

Friends

It gives me pleasure in inviting you to the dedicated list for
discussing issues relating to all mobile devices including Android,
Iphones, Symbian etc.

This also includes mobile phones and Tabs on these platform.

We thought it necessary to have a dedicated sister list of AccessIndia
as issues relating to mobile devices were grabbing a lot of time and
space.
The moderator of the list shall be Aruni Sharma and myself.

Membership to this list is not automatic and separate membership
request has to be made. It is independent of the AccessIndia list.

Please note, consequent to this, topics relating to mobile devices
shall be out of scope of AccessIndia list

Harish,

The problem is that lists for mobile specific platforms do exist. I am
uncertain about your reasoning for a dedicated list. There are only so many
lists I can track. smile

Well, well, Mobile phones, tabs would be within the scope of the

Maybe it be the Symbian, Iphone,Android, Blackberry or the new Windows
 mobile operating system.

As Symbian is on the path to bid adieu, migrating to the other operating
system possesses some special challenges. Some learning and some unlearning

to be done. As a result, considerable traffic is expected in the process.

For those who still want to distance themselves from the inevitable, there
is no need to load them for it. This is the background behind this move.

The new list is archived from day one,and one can catch up at any point.

I agree with Amiyo da on this issue. I think one list was better than 2.
If a mobile device user wanted further help he could have gone to a
specific mailing list for his device. I do think the creation of a list
for this topic is too premature and unnecessary.
I am sure the moderator has thought about it in great detail however I do

think he has been illadvised. I would like to bring to his attention that

this Diwali we have had atleast 20 messages which will require his
moderation and this is the cause of excess mails not the discussion on C5

 or jellybean.

 Ware.

In these days of convergence when anything can be done on anything are we

a little out of date, I wonder.

many mobile models are coming to the market. I am one of those who has used

2012-11-16 Thread harish

Dear Ajay

Well, let us look at this way. If you indeed want to get traffic from both
the list then any way you would be getting the same amount of traffic. So
one list or two it does not matter.

On the other hand, if you are inclined to keep abrest only in developments
on mobile phones or the main list, you can filter out accordingly.

Initially, some folks would do some cross posting amongst both these list,
they will iron out eventually.

On a serious note, in the comming days, I expect a lot of traffic on not
only discussingaccessibility of the phones but also on apps which keeps
growing by the day.

I am also a member of Eyes-free list. There is a huge traffic on that list
and it is US centric. You hardly get anything useful in our context.

It is natural to resist any change, however, change is reality and happening
all the time and we need to adapt accordingly.

Let us not make a fuss about it and keep the spirit of the list going.

2012-11-16 Thread Ajay Minocha
I agree with Pranav sir and Kapil as well. We can't divide this
mailing list according to different topics. If it is to be done then,
We must have a dedicated list for, 1. Computers, 2. scanning/ OCR, 3.
notification of different courses or scollarships, 4. Legal issues,
5. physical accessibility, 6. other day to day conversations. It
becomes very difficult specially for those people like me who are subscribed
to a lot of mailing lists to keep a track over all of them. It totally
depends on the person weather he or she wants to read a particular
message or not. we always have a feature that allows us to delete the
message without reading. Suppose if a new person joins in then he or
she will be put on moderation just because of he brings an issue
related to his mobile/ tablat? Just because he doesn't know about a
dedicated mailing list? It will present a very rigid image of
moderator as well as the mailing list in frunt of every buddy. This
devision is only nerrowing the vast area of technical problems
discussed under accessibility. Then we must imagine 3 to 4 further
sub divisions of mailing list as I mentioned above in neer future.
it's ok to have a dedicated list for mobile but as amiyo sir said,
accessindia has been a one stop shop for all technical querries and we
want it to be the same in future as well. I have been here since 2
years and this list has given me a lot I can't even count those
querries which are solved here and those friends who know me only
because of accessindia. . As kanchan mam said, What about victor
reader, angel
reader etc? what do we call them? a mobile? or a pc? By sending this
mail I am not opposing any buddy in any way. I respect all of those
thoughts which are behind the creation of this dedicated mailing list

We must have a dedicated list for, 1. Computers, 2. scanning/ OCR, 3.
notification of different courses or scollarships, 4. Legal issues,
 5. physical accessibility, 6. other day to day conversations. It
becomes very difficult specially for those people like me who are
 subscribed
to a lot of mailing lists to keep a track over all of them. It totally
depends on the person weather he or she wants to read a particular
message or not. we always have a feature that allows us to delete the
message without reading.
I respect all of those
thoughts which are behind the creation of this dedicated mailing list
but I am just expressing my views.

Friends

It gives me pleasure in inviting you to the dedicated list for discussing
issues relating to all mobile devices including Android, Iphones, Symbian
etc.

This also includes mobile phones and Tabs on these platform.

We thought it necessary to have a dedicated sister list of AccessIndia as
issues relating to mobile devices were grabbing a lot of time and space.

The moderator of the list shall be Aruni Sharma and myself.

Membership to this list is not automatic and separate membership request
has to be made. It is independent of the AccessIndia list.

Please note, consequent to this, topics relating to mobile devices shall
be out of scope of AccessIndia list and all such mails shall be
considered off-topic.

To join the mobile device list, please visit the URL given below and
