[AI] Dead Lock: Multi-select list boxes on websites

2012-05-16 Thread Mujtaba Merchant
Hello Members,

Been having trouble with this for a long time now, seems I just can't get it
resolved!

There are these Multi-select list boxes on webbsites where you can select a
list of cities etc. and your selection is placed in the next box. And you
can rearrange your selection in the selection box based on your prefference.
Illustration as follows:

Two boxes next to each other. In the box on the left you have the multi
select list box, now this box can have city names like Bangalore, Chennai,
Pune, Calcutta etc. Where as the box on the right is empty and will be
filled only after you select the cities from the left list box. A user can
select multiple cities from the box on the left, and this selection will be
placed in the right list box now. A user can also reorder his selection in
the right list box, which includes removing a selection made by mistake. I
hope this is making some sense.

My question is how do we as screen reader users accomplish this task? I am
using JAWS 13 and my IE version is 8. On some blog I read the instructions
below, but they did not work on this site where I had to make such
selections. The website for you to test it is:

http://bangalore.click.in/classifieds/61/post.html

Instructions from a blog of JAWS users as follows:

select multiple items in an extended list box when performing the

following steps, To make multiple selections in an extended list box:

navigate to the extended list box and press enter to turn on forms mode.

Press SHIFT+F8 to turn on Multi-Select mode.

Use your UP and DOWN ARROW to move through the list, and press SPACEBAR

to make your appropriate selections.

Press SHIFT+F8 to turn off Multi-Select mode again when you have all the

desired items selected. Note: You can now proceed to complete the form.

So please try the above instructions and let me know if you were successfull
in at least selecting items from the multi select list box.

Hi,

Are you able to select one at a time?
You can select one, add it. Then select another and add it.

But id like to know how to select multiple things at a time, i always have
difficulty doing that.
