A delegation of the Disabled Rights Group (DRG) and the National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) met Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday to make a concerted push for the introduction and passage of the Disability Rights Bill when Parliament is re-convened in February. In response, Sonia Gandhi assured the delegation of her party’s full support and said she would personally take up the matter with the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kamal Nath so that the enactment of the Bill is prioritised on the agenda when Parliament reconvenes next month. The members of the delegation which called upon Sonia Gandhi were Javed Abidi (Convener, DRG), Muralidharan (Secretary, NPRD), Merry Barua (Action for Autism), Syamala Gidugu (AADI), Neelam Jolly (VISHWAS), Radhika Alkazi (Aarth-Aastha), George Abraham (Score) and Zorin Singha and A S Narayanan (National Association for the Deaf).
