Another relevant point, you can extend the period by 5 years at a time
after the initial period of 15 years. The advantage of PPF is that
yield is higher and to an extent provide liquidity. Besides as is well
known, it provide triple E(exemptions) from income tax point of view.

 to me, the PPF account matured on 07.04.2023 but the bank officer says

Hi,
The Bank officer is absolutely correct. Whenever you open PPF account,
the deemed date of opening the account is treated as 1st April of that
year. Hence, the account matures after completing 15 financial year
from that date, i.e., on 31st March of the relevant year.

One can join PPF from 1/4 to 31/3/of next year.whenevee you join the

I had opened a PPF account with Bank of India on 08.04.2008. According 
to me, the PPF account matured on 07.04.2023 but the bank officer says
