Hello friends,

I had sent an e-mail to SBI Local Head Office about my experience at the
branch and I have received a reply. They have told me that they have taken
up the matter with the branch and requested me to wait for some time. So let
us wait and see how things develop.

Re: [AI] refusal by SBI the same old storry.

2007-04-26 Thread rajesh asudani
Hello Arup

I think a few days ago, I had answered both of the questions in my mail
about IBA guidelines.

1. A blind person can, according to guidelines, open a single/joint account
at liberty.

2. Guidelines are silent about net banking, and allow ATM facility as a
matter of grace and not as a matter of right. Third party cheques are not
supposed to be issued on the signature of a blind person.

This is what IBA has taken CCPD order about banking to mean, and RBI
presumably preoccupied with more urgent matters, has chosen to maintain
silence.

However, inspite of this sorry state of affairs, I fail to comprehend why
SBI should not convert your account into joint account with your niece and
allow you requisite banking facilities.

You may surely approach SBI officials and then, if the need be, banking
ombudsman for West Bengal, who is a considerate RBI official.

Re: [AI] refusal by SBI the same old storry.

2007-04-26 Thread Subramani L
Hello:

There are no guidelines or rules by the RBI regarding VI's operating
bank a/c's. In fact, it's high time they considering issuing one,
because the number of VI bank users have been on the increase.

Giving the mentioned facilities or denying it, therefore remains the
knowledge or ignorance of the officer you are approaching. The problem
is, one officer may grant these facilities and may get transferred
elsewhere, and if a new officer comes to the branch in which you are
operating you're a/c, he/she may deny all of them at one stroke. No
arguing will do. This is the status as of now.

If possible, all of us can sign a petition demanding the RBI to issue
special guidelines or even a PIL.

Dear friends,
recently I had approached SBI to convert my single user account into a
joint account with my niece. I am a bachelor so I thought I could open a
joint account with any of my relatives or friends. I had also asked for
cheque, ATM and Net Banking facility. But unfortunately none of these
ware met.

What I want to know is 1. if there is any circular from RBI or any
competent authority about opening bank account Individual or joint by
blind persons, 2. is there any circular to allow or disallow a blind
person from having ATM and Net Banking facility?

I am thinking of sending an e-mail to Chief General Manager SBI about
this incident.

Dear Friend,

As far as I am aware, there is no circular prohibiting
banks from allowing
ATM cards, Debit Cards, Internet Banking or Telephone
Banking facilities to
blind individuals.

[AI] refusal by SBI the same old storry.

2007-04-26 Thread Arup Chakraborty
Dear friends,
recently I had approached SBI to convert my single user account into a joint
account with my niece. I am a bachelor so I thought I could open a joint
account with any of my relatives or friends. I had also asked for cheque, ATM
and Net Banking facility. But unfortunately none of these ware met.

What I want to know is 1. if there is any circular from RBI or any competent
authority about opening bank account Individual or joint by blind persons, 2.
is there any circular to allow or disallow a blind person from having ATM and
Net Banking facility?

I am thinking of sending an e-mail to Chief General Manager SBI about this
incident.
