Thanks for giving the app a try, and passing on feedback. This is incredibly 
valuable to me.

 

While I was aware of BeMyEyes previously, I wasn’t aware of BeMyAI when 
building the app. I got to know about it in a conversation with Preeti Ma’am 
when I shared the link with her. 

 

Firstly, that doesn’t change anything for me. I am a strong believer of not 
letting any single company, or organization hold monopolistic control over a 
large tool. Especially, one that so many people depend on, like in this case. I 
strongly believe there should be multiple options in the market, even if they 
are not so good as the other one, to ensure fairness. Such alternatives are 
exactly what would prevent BeMyAI from suddenly announcing one day a 
subscription fee of $10 per month. (Not claiming that BeMyAI would do so, but 
only a hypothetical situation, which is very often the case). 

 

Secondly, there is no profit or monetary aspect driving this app. What started 
as something that I built as an pet project while I was learning AI, evolved 
into Newton Eyes. While I was not aware of such existing tool, I give full 
credit to BeMyAI for thinking of this idea first. 

 

Thirdly, I did a couple of workshops in enabling some of the students of Jyothi 
Seva Blind School with this app. I was surprised that none of those students 
mentioned about BeMyAI in those workshops, and they were actually experience 
such app for the first time. And when I got to know about BeMyAI app from 
Preeti ma’am, the first thing I did is pass on that information to the students 
I was in touch with there. Because I am not competing with other apps, but the 
intent was only to contribute to the community.

 

Thanks to Preeti ma’am passing the message to all, I received a lot of feedback 
from many individuals. 

 

Below are the main themes of feedback:

*   Signup process is challenging, add one-click google login instead
*   The voice from the app often overlaps with the voice of TalkBack. So 
instead of broadcasting voice, just show the text on the screen and let the 
users read it using TalkBack

 

I will be rolling out a newer version of the app soon implementing this 
feedback. 

 

However, this is a personal pursuit of mine, as a pet project, with no monetary 
intent. Without a large team driving it, the features and feedback will take 
time for iterations. As a further step, I would want to opensource this app so 
there is a opensource free alternative in the market, without creating a 
dependency on just any single organization or person.
