But these set top boxes do not provide accessible menu items. I have an airtel
android box. It speaks about channel info, duration of the program etc but as I
press menu button on my set top box remote, only unlabeled buttons are spoken.
I am not able to key in my e-mail Id and use many other features.

RE: [AI] Accessible Smart TV

2022-04-06 Thread techsavi.shankar
Hi,

Thought of sharing my experience on the Sony smart tv which was bought recently
to my home.

Model: Sony BRAVIA VU2.

Display Size108 cm (43 inch)

Screen Type LED

HD Technology & Resolution Ultra HD (4K), 3840 x 2160

SeriesX75

The tv comes with the 2 different screen readers such as talkback and Sony
screen reader.

Where we can assign the shortcut to enable the accessibility quickly without
looking for sighted assistance.

Performance and accessibility:

1. No options to arrange the I-cons.
2. Lag with talkback.
3. Sony screen reader read only the interactive elements such as ok,
cancel buttons but, it wont read the dialogue content.
4. There is no proper navigation provided for apps like youtube prime and
other apps.

Final thoughts:

Instead spending too much money, getting the digital/android set up box will be
the best option.

Hi,

When I was on the OTT interface of the smart TV screen-reader announced almost
everything. However, on the DTH channel interface, screen-reader didn't work.
Is there any smart TV which announces channel number or channel name on DTH
interface also.

Also, the showroom guy couldn't turn on Talk Back on OnePlus as directed by me.
So, can anyone tell the exact path to turn on Talk Back on One Plus TV?

2022-04-05 Thread Ajay Minocha
Hello,

1. Fire OS wins hands down if you talk about screen reader accessibility.
2. Yes, the cast works as expected with mobile, should work fine with
laptop as well although never tried
3. Haven't got a chance to use any Oneplus TV.
4. TVs from AmazonBasics have a DTH integration where you can control
the set-top-box through the TV remote itself but I don't know if it
announces the channel number.

Cheers,
Ajay

2022-04-05 Thread Ajay Minocha
Hi Harishit,

Technically a good model from MI like MITV 5x should give you superior
picture quality as compared to croma while playing same content on
both the models.
I use an Amazon fire TV stick but a TV based on Fire OS shouldn't be
much different.
a) Can I control my smart TV with Fire OS using Amazon Echo Dot device?
Ajay: Yes you can but It's actually not needed as you can press the
dedicated Alexa button in the remote and it should behave like an
echo.
b) Can I mirror/cast my smart phone and laptop screen on the smart TV?
Ajay: Yes you can provided both the devices are on the same Wifi network.
c) Can I add additional apps on the smart TV? Are there any app store
for adding additional apps?
Ajay: Yes, amazon app store has all the necessary apps you might want.
d) Will the smart TV support all Amazon products like Audible, Audible
Suno, Kindle, Amazon music, etc.?
Ajay: Haven't tried kindle but all other products should work fine.
e) Can I also watch Google products like Youtube on the smart TV with Fire OS?
Ajay: Yes, absolutely.

Cheers,
Ajay

Re: [AI] Accessible Smart TV

2022-04-04 Thread Harshit Lohia
Hi Ajay,
Yesterday I went to a electronic showroom to look out for a smart TV
which can be used by my family and myself. My parents didn't like the
picture quality of MI (which comes with android OS and 1 year
warranty). The showroom guy also presented a Chroma smart TV (which
comes with Fire OS and 3 year warranty). Its picture quality was
superior to MI and I was able to navigate through options like
settings, input, apps, etc. So, I wanted to confirm the following:
a) Can I control my smart TV with Fire OS using Amazon Echo Dot device?
b) Can I mirror/cast my smart phone and laptop screen on the smart TV?
c) Can I add additional apps on the smart TV? Are there any app store
for adding additional apps?
d) Will the smart TV support all Amazon products like Audible, Audible
Suno, Kindle, Amazon music, etc.?
e) Can I also watch Google products like Youtube on the smart TV with Fire OS?

Waiting for your kind response.

Regards
Harshit

Re: [AI] Accessible Smart TV

Mi is pretty good. Also, it is worth checking out TVs with Fire OS
i.e. Amazon basics, Croma and Onida as Fire TV OS is more accessible
than android.

Cheers,
Ajay
