Hi Everyone, Thanks a lot for your invaluable inputs. I have gone through every single message and made a list containing all the names you put forth. The list contains 38 apps/websites in total. I have also noted down your name and email address, with reference to whatever app/website you have mentioned. I am undertaking this initiative along with Amar and Turab, to answer Asif's question. In the coming days, one of us will reach out to you individually to ask for specific inputs about the apps you have mentioned. We will request you to describe the precise accessibility issues that you have encountered, such as inaccessible buttons, calendar inaccessibility, use of inaccessible captchas, etc. We will also ask you to propose a practical solution to the problem, to the extent you can. We will then engage in a dialogue with the app developer through multiple channels, to get them to address the issue in an expeditious and meaningful fashion. Hi Rahul, I don't know about today, but earlier I was on Instagram and snap chat. These are slightly image driven platforms. This is about 2 years back, both these platforms were inaccessible with no image description or anything of that sort. It made these platforms boring and non user friendly. Facebook isn't the best in terms of accessibility either. Current users can follow up. regards On Tue, Nov 9, 2021 at 11:40 AM vikas shivsharan wrote: > whom to contact for inaccessible andorid app issue.plz give me contact > number, any whatsapp group to salls sech issu... > > On Mon, Nov 8, 2021, 3:09 PM Sandesh wrote: > >> Actually, I did check this with sighted person but Ola does not show fair >> estimates. Actually, I did check this with sighted person but Ola does not show fair estimates. I will put this issue to Ola. it is problem with all, hence no accessibility specific. Good initiative indeed and person like me who always does write to different different developers for these problems have now multiple hands and universal voice to rely upon. Good initiative once again. We should continuously do the work on this in whatever possible ways according to one's capabilities. Re: [AI] Call for names of inaccessible apps/websites
well as someone has pointed out here rightly, "Jio is one of the biggest offenders". the set of their apps like Jio mags which helps to find and read almost all the Indian magazines and Jio TV to watch TV channels are inaccessible. the inaccessibility of apps which fall under the category of communication/dating/social media are to be addressed too because, the phenomena of friendship and love have all become digitized over the time. facebook light for example which works with less than three MB of your disk space and provides same features as the larger Facebook app is highly inaccessible. We have plenty of people as volunteers for this work. The first [and preferred] strategy is to engage in structured negotiation with them. Failing that, however, we have the wherewithal and desire to opt for legal remedies. At this stage, we're collating a list of inaccessible apps/websites. We will reach out to developers in a phased manner. The focus right now is more on the private sector. Government websites and apps require a different approach and hence will be addressed separately and perhaps later. If you can share with me the names of apps/websites that you use on a regular basis that are inaccessible, that would be great. Interesting coincidence! We are talking of Structured Negotiation on the day we had released our Podcast Eyeway Conversations with Lainey Feingold. She has extensively used Structured Negotiation to address challenges faced by blind persons in the space of inclusion and access. Lainey speaks at length on her success and experiences with Structured Negotiation on the Podcast. I had shared the link on AI on Tuesday the 2nd. Anyone interested can write to me off the list. Reliance Jio is one of the biggest offenders in the list. Right from their set-top-boxes to applications, accessibility is a big concern. Dear rahul, income tax e-filing portal. as many of us have to file return and also will file coming years. - Original Message - From: "Rahul Bajaj" To: Sent: Tuesday, November 2, 2021 2:14 PM Subject: [AI] Call for names of inaccessible apps/websites Hi Everyone, Along with some like-minded people, I have started an initiative aimed at constructively engaging with the developers of inaccessible apps/websites to make them more accessible for the visually challenged in particular and the disabled in general. I might ask you for specific inputs in terms of what the accessibility barriers precisely are at a later stage in the process. Thanks a lot. Warmly, Rahul -- Disclaimer: 1. Re: [AI] Call for names of inaccessible apps/websites
Dear Mr. Rahul, Please take note of the following app/websites/smart gadgets 1. HDFC Bank net banking portal. The net banking portal is fairly accessible but 'Bill payment and recharge' module in the portal is very less accessible. 2. Money Control website. The website is somewhat inaccessible due to auto refressh and automatic notification of real time updates on the portal 3. Airtel Xtreme Box. It is a smart set top box from Airtel. Though it responds to Google voice input but it lacks TTS/screen reading application 4. Airtel Thanks app is also highly inaccessible. 5. Paytm android app 6. My CAMS portal (https://mycams.camsonline.com). The contents on the portal can be read easily but it is difficult to execute transactions on the portal. 7. Inshorts news reading app. The headlines can be read easily but it is difficult to navigate to different article and read detailed article.
