well put Ajai sir.
Bhivani, my point was to urge to think in about the genetic aspect of
disability when a disabled marries another disabled and not about
marrying in cross-disability.

Re: [AI] KANGKAN KALITA reports in the TOI today: 'Why 19 members of this Assam family are blind'

2022-09-13 Thread Ajay Minocha
Hi,

I think one needs to separate the process of marriage and having their
own biological offspring.
One can get married to a disabled/ non-disabled, sighted/ blind
partner etc. but life doesn't run on emotions/ philosophy alone. I
think it is perfectly fine so long as two people are comfortable
marrying each other despite their inherent genetic conditions but
going for their own biological offspring in such cases is a very
selfish decision.
It not only puts the child at a higher risk of disability without
their consent but also makes the future generations susceptible to the
conditions in which they actually had no say at all.
Can't help but respect the couples with genetic conditions who choose
to adopt a child!

Cheers,
Ajay

Certainly sir, genetic causes are at play in consanguineous marriages
also. The Hindu did a report on this and we have had long discussion

Re: [AI] KANGKAN KALITA reports in the TOI today: 'Why 19 members of this Assam family are blind'

2022-09-12 Thread avinash shahi
Certainly sir, genetic causes are at play in consanguineous marriages
also. The Hindu did a report on this and we have had long discussion
on Access India inn the past. Many countries in the Arab World, west
asia and in southern Indian states have families where more than one
member is disabled.

Avinash, the primary cause behind it is marriages between first cousins
and it is common in muslim families. In Pakistan number of mentally
retired children is increasing just because of this first cousin
marriages. The report is incomplete or the reporter may frightened to
raise this point.
