[Bug 8922] 2.6.14 regression - Shutdown hangs after acpi_power_off called only if sounds outputed before.

2007-08-26 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8922

--- Comment #10 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2007-08-26 00:26 ---
(In reply to comment #9)
Hangs like this are typically because we've done something,
maybe something unrelated, that confuses the BIOS.

Is it possible to git-bisect which change between
2.6.13 and 2.6.14 caused this to break?

Should i still apply that patch?

Pity, but I still maintain that the bissected commit can't be the culprit, so
IMHO something very fishy is going on.

A lot of GPE fixes and other such stuff got in 2.6.23-rc, it is not unlikely
that one of them is the real fix :(

you don't need to apply the patch, but please try with
/proc/acpi/video/GFX0/DOS = 0 and 1.

[Bug 43961] Re: Power down after shutdown does not work...

2007-08-26 Thread Jim Sapp
Note; using, Mepis 6.5 with KDE
I have this problem with my thinkpad, and was able to solve by going into KDE
Control panel, login manager, then shutdown tab. then change /sbin/halt to
/sbin/poweroff. I am not familiar in where to change this in the gnome
environment.
I am a lite Linux user and if some one can elaborate as in how I can edit this
script on the command line, in case I come across this again. I sure would
appreciate it.
Thanks
Jim

That's great. Thanks, Sergio. :)
Do you have an extra CRT plugged in when you press the Fn+F5?
If the answer is yes, is the output display actually switched when DOS is 0?
If the answer is no, well, Fn+F5 doesn't make sense for you. and we can't debug
further. :(
BTW: you must do the test in X mode, right? Please confirm that system doesn't
crash with DOS = 1 when you press Fn+F5 in console mode.
