[Bug 9997] acpi_cpufreq detects wrong frequencies for Pentium M 715 - Dothan on Acer Travelmate 4001 LMI

--- Comment #12 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-02-19 00:54 ---
Hi, Dieter
Thanks for the info. After using the custom DSDT your laptop can work in
correct cpufreq.
The remaining problems are listed in the following:
powertop doesn't recognize any C-States anymore
   - wakeups go up from about 100 to about 500 /second, power
drainincreases by about 2-3W :-/

That powertop can't recognize any C-states is caused by the NULL pblk
address. From the debug dmesg it seems that Processor block address is NULL .
But from the DSDT it seems that the PBLK address is 0x1010.
Processor (CPU0, 0x00, 0x1010, 0x06)
Will you please confirm the difference between the oringal dsdt and custom
dsdt? Please only modify the cpufreq definition in _PSS package and see whether
the problem still exists.

   Thanks.

The same DSDT problem can be found in:

Foxconn M520A ( Bios 784F1P05 2008-02-01 )
Biostar TA770 A+ ( Bios A78XA125 2008-01-28 )

The result is a crashing powersaved, poweroff doesn't work, the boot log shows
on a Foxconn MB:

ACPI Exception (processor_core-0789): AE_NOT_FOUND, Processor Device is not
present [20070126]

The same AE_NOT_FOUND error can be found on the Biostar MB.

After fixing the DSDT by hand, powersaved doesn't crash anymore and a poweroff
works too.

I guess this problem may happen with other AM2 Quad-Core supporting boards too.

This message should be harmless and should be set to a debug message (AFAIK
there is a patch that should get into mainline soon):
ACPI Exception (processor_core-0789): AE_NOT_FOUND, Processor Device is not
present [20070126]

After fixing the DSDT by hand, powersaved doesn't crash anymore and a poweroff
 works too.
Oops. Great. Are you sure it's the same problem?
Can you post a diff of the ASL fix and best also attache whole acpidump to
verify.

 Hi, Malashenko
Will you please try the attached debug patch in comment #4? (using the
 latest kernel.)
It is noted that you should enable the ACPI debug function and boot the
system with the option of acpi.debug_layer=0x04 acpi.debug_level=0x01f.
After the system is booted, please execute the command of cat
/proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/info several times and attach the output of dmesg.
Sorry for my fault in comment #5.
 Thanks.

compilation in progress sir ;)

see the last full capacity: - due to that acpi -V shows:
15:40:17 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/tmp$ acpi -V
 Battery 1: charged, 30%
 Thermal 1: ok, 55.0 degrees C
  AC Adapter 1: on-line
15:41:18 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/tmp$

and same happens when you divide remaining capacity by last full capacity:
3769 mAh / 12302 mAh what give exactly 30%

so, I would say: we (you) are close to solution but still needs a bit work
so I'm willing to help as soon as you ask me to implement new patch ;)

Well the callstack shows :thermal:acpi_thermal_trip_seq_show too, a reason for
the reopen.

To make the diff I used now the Biostar one, as the DSDT of the Foxconn can't
be recompiled directly. (There is an unused local that will throw an compile
error, removing the will solve it, and then the same fix is applied) The
general fix seems to replace CPU0 with C000.

So the diff is simple:

yes, I have been testing continuously. With -rc2 my laptop freezes instantly
when I fire up wpa_supplicant. There are no logs. Loading the rt2500pci module
is fine though and scanning works too.

Backlight interface works strange, as described in
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10042
It actually works, has only 4 brightness levels and is a bit buggy atm.
I've done through all the steps, dmesg is empty.
However, if I reload module now, I get:
dsobject-0456 [00] ds_build_internal_pack: Package List length larger than
NumElements count (1), truncated
dsobject-0456 [00] ds_build_internal_pack: Package List length larger than

[Bug 10042] New: Unreal actual_brightness and other strange behavior of video module on FSC Amilo Pi 2515

2008-02-19 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10042

Summary: Unreal actual_brightness and other strange behavior of
video module on FSC Amilo Pi 2515
   Product: ACPI
   Version: 2.5
 KernelVersion: 2.6.24
  Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
  Tree: Mainline
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P1
 Component: Power-Video
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Distribution:Gentoo
Hardware Environment:Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pi 2515

Problem Description:When video module is loaded,
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/ entries are created. Dmesg output is ACPI:
Video Device [GFX0] (multi-head: yes rom: no post: no)
The values, however, are strange. actual_brightness is always a big integer
like e.g. 2102324320 (changes every time module is loaded, remains unchanged
afterwards regardless of brightness level).
Initial value of acpi_video0/brightness is 0 (although the display is at
maximum brightness). max_brightness is set to 100.
I am able to change the brightness if I echo 25,50 or 75. Any other value makes
my display return to maximum brightness.
Actually, the display is supposed to have brightness levels from 1 to 7, AFAIK.
If I load with ACPI_DEBUG, initial value of brightness is also a great number
such as 2099887552.

Steps to reproduce:always

you have two ACPI video devices shown in sys I/F in 2.6.24 and only one of
 them
 can work for you, right?

right.

 please revert 3fa2cdcc45a0176de15cac9dbf4ed2834ebf8932

no. Still only 1 device which is not working.
