davej:

FYI, pmtools live on the Linux/ACPI home page, under utilities:
http://www.lesswatts.org/projects/acpi/utilities.php

The sourceforge.net site has been retired and exists only
for some legacy documentation for old kernels.
(as the 1st line of the page says)

Well, I don't see why the patch breaks the battery on this laptop.
Any update on this? :)

Jens,
This bug isn't closed, it is resolved, which is a state
that means a patch is available for review and testing.
It gets closed only when the patch is upstream.

If the volume keys on your x60 stopped working,
and continue to not work with the latest upstream
kernel, i urge you to file a (new) bug.

Thanks Len, just as long as the patch gets upstream I'm happy. Not sure why it
has to take weeks for a simple revert to get in though, some faster turn-around
for simple issues like this would be nice.

The volume keys work, but they don't generate events that are noticed. I'm told
that is on purpose, though it sounds like a dumb way to break a working setup.

Len, I don't understand your question? Debugging is fine already, I attached
the proper output. Not everything is working with S3 however, because with
2.6.23 resuming worked fine without any quirks and now I need to use s2ram, so
there is some regression in this area definetely.

[Bug 10237] New: Kernel panic - cannot find/configure processor AMD Turion x2 TL-60 after bios update

2008-03-13 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10237

Summary: Kernel panic - cannot find/configure processor AMD
Turion x2 TL-60 after bios update
   Product: ACPI
   Version: 2.5
 KernelVersion: 2.6.24.3
  Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
  Tree: Mainline
Status: NEW
  Severity: blocking
  Priority: P1
 Component: Config-Processors
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Latest working kernel version:
N/A

Earliest failing kernel version:
2.6.20.1

Distribution:
Vanialla, Fedora, opensuse

Hardware Environment:
Software Environment:
Problem Description:

After upgrading my bios from 3303 to 3315 the kernel cannot recognize my cpu. i
upgraded my cpu from amd mk36 to amd tl60 and now i have kernel panic. the only
way to start the mashine is to pass the noapic argument. all the attached files
are from fedora8 started with noapic. i tried the vanilla kernel 2.6.24.3 and
opensuse 10.3 and got the same error. I tried with bios 3309 (available from
acer webiste) with the same results. according to the bios changelog after 3303
the kernel cpu code has been updated. maybe this is the cause of the problem.

Steps to reproduce:
update bios

Without CONFIG_HZ, it's even worse. The computer is directly blocked when X
started and a few seconds after, the screen becomes black. It's also impossible
to connect via SSH to the computer.
With CONFIG_HZ enabled and hpet=force as boot parameter, it hangs also when X
is started, but not completely. I can make an SSH connection. The output of cat

This smells like a platform EC firmware or sensor issue.
Is it possible to make some workaround? :( I don't think that it's warranty
case :(

Is the system running the latest BIOS?
Yep, it's running latest BIOS I found on lenovo site

Does this happen only after hibernate, or does it happen
also after suspend to RAM?

Only for hibernate, can't reproduce bug with suspend to ram

It would be interesting if we could see if Windows behaves
any better on this system.
I _do not_ have this issue in windows

It would be intersting if the hwmon Digital Thermal Sensor
support works on this system, have you tried CONFIG_SENSORS_CORETEMP?

Yep, coretemp supported, and it shows correct info. Btw, I don't care what
thermal says, I just want my fan not to work when CPU is not hot :)
Does fan activity managed by bios or it's possible to manipulate with fan (turn
on\turn off) from userspace?

I don't believe this is a duplicate of bug 9429 - I'm experiencing the same
failure with a Core 2 Duo T9300 on kernel 2.6.24-12. Bug 9429 is closed with a
fix in place for this kernel, and I can't load acpi_cpufreq either, with the
same error (no such device).

[Bug 9961] Oops with docking and undocking, device after docking not connected

2008-03-13 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9961

--- Comment #15 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-03-13 12:53 ---
Yes, it was a bit of a challange but someone finally located a
Dock II for me to use. I received it yesterday.

After reproducing the problem on my T41p with 2.6.25-rc2, 2.6.24,
and 2.6.24.3 I tried 2.6.24-rc1 where the above mentioned remove
transparent bridge sizing change had entered mainline. The problem
reproduced again with 2.6.24-rc1 but disappeared after reverting only
the remove transparent bridge sizing change.

I may have misunderstood Paul's Comment #6. When he said The
above works for 2.6.24 I thought he meant that 2.6.24 worked
without reverting the remove transparent bridge sizing change.
He must have meant that 2.6.24 worked after reverting the change.
Paul, is this what you intended or is there a chance that
2.6.24 is behaving differently on your T30 than it is on my T41p?

So, it appears to me that the problem was introduced or exposed
by my change. sigh I am working to find a solution ASAP.

[Bug 9961] Oops with docking and undocking, device after docking not connected

2008-03-13 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9961

--- Comment #16 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-03-13 14:29 ---
2.6.23 works. 2.6.24 works after reverting the change. Isn't English such an
ambiguous language? grin

2.6.25-rc3 and later do not see the dock at all as a dock. You can use it if
you boot up whilst the laptop is docked, but then you cannot undock other than
by rebooting. Also, in 2.6.25-rc2 and later some PCI bus interrupts and
possibly DMA are not being correctly handled, resulting in the V4L2 stack
consuming almost all the CPU.

Soeren,

I tried reproducing this on Macbook Pro locally with latest git and and an
earlier rc (25-rc2). I used the config that you had sent earlier. I dont seem
to reproduce this problem.

Can you please retry with latest git and see whether the CPUIDLE problem is
still there? attach the CONFIG you used to this bugzilla.

Also, if you can reproduce the problem still..
with ACPI PROCESSOR configured in kernel (not as module) and CPUIDLE try
booting with processor.max_cstate=2 and see whether that helps.

Thanks,
Venki

[Bug 10224] kacpid and kacpi_notify takes 90 % of cpu

2008-03-13 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10224

--- Comment #12 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-03-13 18:26 ---
Thank for the info.
Now it is confirmed that the bug is caused by the ACPI interrupt flood. And
the GPE 0x1D is triggered at very high rate. (In fact there is a similar bug
9781)

On this desktop the GPE 0x1D is a wakeup GPE and shared by three device :
Sleep button, PS2K, PS2M. And GPE 0x1D will be configured as Run_Wake(Runtime
wakeup) gpe in button driver.
According to ACPI spec the wake events should not be intermixed with
non-wake (runtime) events on the same GPE input. In this desktop the wake
events are intermixed with the non-wake(runtime) events on the same 0x1D gpe
input. It is incorrect.

Thanks.

Well, this is a duplicate of bug 9781.
The problem is caused by a violation of ACPI spec.
The patch in bug 9781 can not be upstream as it's just a work around.
The most important thing for us is to make clear why it works in Windows, and
why boot after a windows boot changes the symptom in Linux.
