[Bug 10319] New: 2.6.25-rc6 regression - hang on resume

2008-03-25 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10319

Summary: 2.6.25-rc6 regression - hang on resume
   Product: ACPI
   Version: 2.5
 KernelVersion: 2.6.25-rc6-git current
  Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
  Tree: Mainline
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P1
 Component: Power-Sleep-Wake
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

this is a follow up to #10065

Latest working kernel version: 2.6.24
Earliest failing kernel version: ???
Distribution: Debian-SID
Hardware Environment: MacBookPro1,1
Software Environment:
Problem Description: hangs / reboot / no display on resume from s2ram

I am still having problems on *resume* with git current
a4083c9271e0a697278e089f2c0b9a95363ada0a, however it always suspends fine now.

- on resume (from within X) I don't get the display back, the ide led is still
on then it reboots (about 10 seconds later).

- on resume (from console) s2ram -f -p does not anymore give me my display
back, however blindly typing reboot or s2ram again works (system is alive).

Steps to reproduce:

happens on any s2ram resume attempt

[Bug 34389] Re: Lid state is incorrect on Dell Inspiron 700m

2008-03-25 Thread Gerhard Kremer
I confirm the bug on my HP-Compaq nc6120 running Kubuntu Hardy Beta
(kernel v 2.6.24-12). At the suggestion of Paul Sladen, I have opened a
specific bug with the number #206511.

Looks like this is related to bug #140679. Also, check out bug report #157691
for a possible explanation and, more importantly, a workaround.

get it in for 2.6.25.

I don't think we should push this workaround patch,
since it has not been reported to automatically make the system here
or in bug 5289 work.

The BIOS clearly isn't following the ACPI spec,
but presumably the fan works properly on Windows...

I don't see WMI's PNP0C14 in the AML, so it can't be that.

Can somebody confirm that fan control works on these boxes when
running Windows?

this is technically RESOLVED b/c we have a patch that works.
However, we need to:
1. attach the actual pach that made it into ACPICA (linuxized)
2. get that patch into Linux (when this bug will be CLOSED)

The patch in comment #39 was created automatically using acpisrc and lindent.
#40 contains the required declarations and code that transfers the information
from _CRS to _SRS using the method suggested by Shaohua.

Also, the patch in comment #32 contains a few bugfixes that are unrelated to
the issue at hand.

was reverted between 2.6.25-rc6 and 2.6.25-rc6-git8,

Gary,
Please e-mail the patch in comment #20 to greg-kh
if you have not already, as i'm not sure he scans bugzilla regularly.
On the assumption that your patch is in the right spot,
I'm moving this sighting to the drivers/pci category
while marking it RESOLVED to indicate a patch is available to test.

Although this issue is in the ACPICA AML interpreter,
lets keep this report in bugzilla.kernel.org
instead of moving it to http://acpica.org/bugzilla/
because success here is measured by tools that
run against the Linux source tree.

this one should be moved to http://acpica.org/bugzilla/

BIOS question. I see that the US site has v1.25 but it seems that the European
site has v1.32.

First question: does anyone know if the European BIOS is OK with US machines?
Second question: does v1.32 fix the fan problem.

Linux needs a timed-wait mutex acquire interface before ACPICA can use the

Matthew Wilcox has proposed a solution:
