http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12816

Summary: sony-laptop infunctional on Sony Vaio VGN-TT11/LN
   Product: ACPI
   Version: 2.5
 KernelVersion: 2.6.28.7
  Platform: All

/sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop/wwanpower:0

FKeys/PKeys [Fn]+FXX (brightness, vga, zoom) and 2 of the PKeys (S1, eject)
don't work either.

sony-laptop seems to register a JogDial device which I don't have (at least as
far as I can tell).

So your BIOS did not clear the bit on any CPU.
Furthermore I've found

[0.460294] mtrr: your CPUs had inconsistent fixed MTRR settings
[0.460294] mtrr: probably your BIOS does not setup all CPUs.
[0.460294] mtrr: corrected configuration.

which means that memory (i.e. caching) type of some fixed memory ranges
still differs between CPUs and Linux synced the settings. But this time
without touching the RdMem/WrMem bits. I am curious how the fixed
MTRRs look like and will send a patch to collect this debug information.

can you try latest kernel, which has a lot of idle related fixes?

I'm running 2.6.28 (2.6.28-gentoo-r2) and I don't have any problems, although I
don't run irqbalance.

But I think you can also use acpi=rsdt to workaround this problem.

Hi, Philip
The pentium D is a dual core processor based on x86 architecture. It can
work in 32/64 bit mode. But it is not based on Itanium architecture. The ia64
branch is for the process based on itanium.

Will you please double check this issue?
Thanks.

b. put the box into hibernate state.(echo disk /sys/power/state)
c. resume the box and see whether the ACPI event is reported correctly. Of

Does someone have an opportunity to try the boot option of
acpi_sleep=old_ordering on the latest kernel and see whether the box can be
shutdown?
   Thanks.

Hi, Alwin
Will you please try the debug patch on the latest kernel and see whether
the ACPI event can be reported correctly?
After the box is booted, please attach the output of lspci -vxxx.
Thanks.

Hi, Aljaz
Will you please add the boot option of acpi_sleep=old_ordering and do the
following test?
a. dmesg  dmesg_before; echo mem  /sys/power/state; dmesg dmesg_after;
sync; reboot;
b. press the power button and see whether the box can be resumed.

If it can't be resumed, please reboot the box and see whether there exists
the file of dmesg_after.

It will be great if you don't add the boot option of
acpi_sleep=old_ordering and do the same test(step a  b).
Thanks.

aoo suffix stands for the acpi_sleep=old_ordering

I did so. Both times the computer didn't wake, but the vent was up which I
don't remember before. The keyboard didn't respond, hard reset did. Without
acpi option (normal boot) both caps lock and num lock after a while of waking
up started flashing. That's the only difference between both cases.

HI, Vefa
How about the git-bisect result?
From the comment #25 it seems that there is no such issue on the 2.6.24
Debian's kernel. But the problem exists on the vanilla kernel(2.6.24). Right?
If so, had better use the git-bisect to identify the bad commit.
Thanks.

Hi, Pascal
Do you have an opportunity to try the boot option of nolapic_timer on the
latest kernel and see whether the box can be booted normally?
Will you please also try the boot option of idle=nomwait
processor.max_cstate=1 and see whether the box can be booted normally?

Hi, Rui
As there is no response for more than one month, the bug will be rejected.
If the problem still exists, please try the boot option as suggested and then
reopen the bug.
Thanks.

[Bug 12376] ACPI I/O resource conflict with SMBus

2009-03-04 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12376

--- Comment #21 from yakui.z...@intel.com 2009-03-04 23:26 ---
It is a good idea to hide the SMbus device. In such case the i2c-i801 driver
won't be loaded for the SMbus PCi controller, which can avoid the conflict
between ACPI AML and i2c-i801 driver.
But on some Asus boxes when OS detects that the SMbus device is hidden, it
will try to make it visible again(this is done in the pci quirks function).

Thanks.
