[Bug 12856] Thinkpad freezes with X.org and acpi=rsdt
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12856 --- Comment #3 from uzytkown...@gmail.com 2009-03-11 23:10 --- Created an attachment (id=20497) -- (http://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=20497action=view) xorg.conf (In reply to comment #2) First of all, I don't know if we should mark it as a regression, because the latest working kernel version 2.6.28 means that the cpufreq sysfs I/F is available in that kernel, as stated in bug #12826. Maciej, I think the laptop also freezes in 2.6.28 with acpi=rsdt, right? No it does not. If it would I would put it in 'not working' not 'last working'. Now I'm on Linux 2.6.28 with acpi=rsdt. (In reply to comment #1) From the problem description it seems that this is a regression. Will you please use git-bisect to identify the commit which causes the regression? Not before the weekend. Rebuilding the kernel takes a long time so even with logarithmic nature of bisect it would take over a workday (I guess it will take over 12 h). How about if adding the following boot option? a. idle=poll b. nolapic_timer Will you please also attach the output of acpidump, dmidecode? Thanks. Ok. I will do it this evening. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. -- Apps built with the Adobe(R) Flex(R) framework and Flex Builder(TM) are powering Web 2.0 with engaging, cross-platform capabilities. Another issue that might be related is the fact that my laptop sometimes complains about not being able to determine the type and wattage of the power adapter while AC is plugged in at BIOS boot-time (warning). Could it be that the BIOS is just over-protective in such situations and that cpufreq is correctly doing it's job? [Bug 12233] acpi problems on my laptop
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12233 --- Comment #53 from jwoi...@physics.adelaide.edu.au 2009-03-12 15:53 --- I was able to test 2.6.29-rc6 with your patch overnight on the S7020. After loading the video module (without fujitsu-laptop loaded and having not supplied acpi_backlight=vendor), /sys/class/backlight/ was completely empty. This shows that the patch has not caused video to take over the backlight control on the S7020 (something it shouldn't do because the S7020 only has a vendor-specific method available). So at least for the S7020 this patch does not cause any regression and can go forward. With fujitsu-laptop loaded (with video already loaded), /sys/class/backlight/ was populated. grep . /sys/class/backlight/*/* /sys/class/backlight/fujitsu-laptop/actual_brightness:7 /sys/class/backlight/fujitsu-laptop/bl_power:0 /sys/class/backlight/fujitsu-laptop/brightness:7 /sys/class/backlight/fujitsu-laptop/max_brightness:7 This was the same regardless of whether acpi_backlight=vendor was specified. On the S7020 this is to be expected though. It would be good if this patch could now be tested on a machine which does have the buggy _BQC method. In the absence of this the patch should probably be applied to video anyway since at least in theory it seems worthwhile. I guess the only issue is ensuring it doesn't create regressions for other laptops. [Bug 12269] Boot slowdown/timeout (2.6.27-2.6.28 regression)
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12269 --- Comment #22 from robin.bankh...@gmail.com 2009-03-12 16:36 --- Created an attachment (id=20509) -- (http://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=20509action=view) dmesg from kernel 2.6.27 Here's the dmesg from original 2.6.27 kernel with the boot params you requested. The problem was actually even worse this time than when I first encountered it with Gentoo's patched version of this kernel. The basic behaviour was the same throughout init, but once I'd gotten as far as kdm and vt-switched back to the console, I found that logging-in seemingly timed out as the prompt never appeared, and my cursor was a single underscore that I could move up and around the console screen (never seen anything like this before). I ^C'd and found myself on a non-logged-in bash prompt, from which a second attempt to login was successful. However, I found simple operations like cd seemed to time out. I couldn't even shutdown and had to use SysReq to reboot. I didn't keep my original .config from 2.6.27, but this one was created in the same manner (running make oldconfig using my 2.6.26 .config, accepting mostly the defaults, then turning on more debug options) so should be fairly similar. It's coming below. [Bug 11750] [thinkpad-acpi] for t43 should be set brightness_mode=1
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11750 --- Comment #17 from h...@hmh.eng.br 2009-03-12 18:42 --- Ok, code is ready to set all models to mode 2 (UCMS), but keep the ATI-based T43 at mode 3 (UCMS + EC). But reading this bug report, I can't seem to understand if mode 2 (UCMS) works fine on Alexey's Intel-based T43. Alexey, can you tell me how it behaves when you start thinkpad-acpi with the brightness_mode=2 parameter? Does it let you control brightness properly through the /proc interface? Please test it both in single-user, text mode, and also normally in X.org Do the brightness keys work? Please test it both in single-user, text mode, and also normally in X.org Does it lose sync with the current brightness when you use the keys? If it loses sync when in X.org, does it also happens when in single-user, text mode? I will attach the patch to change defaults to this bug report, but it is not needed in any way to perform the above tests.
