--- Comment #87 from ciprian.crac...@gmail.com 2009-03-22 05:00 ---
I have a similar problem: after a suspend-to-ram, the Synaptics touch pad
driver stops working correctly (the scroll features do not work, but I can move
and click the mouse).

There is nothing suspicious in either kernel and X logs. This problem appeared
only when I've installed 2.6.28 (any minor version, currently I have .8). This
problem was not seen in either 2.6.25 or .27. My laptop is a Benq Joybook S32B.

Now I've skimmed through the replies, and tried the thing with echo ...
/sys/bus/..., and didn't worked. (I must mention that if I restart X server the
problem is fixed until the next susspend. This is not an X problem, as with
another kernel, the same experiment works.)

If anyone wants me to try some patch, I'm up for it!

Thanks,
Ciprian Craciun.

Will you please attach the output of acpidump?
Will you please try the boot option of reboot=a on the latest kernel and
see whether the acpi reboot is helpful for this box?
Thanks.

this more looks like a hacking/breakin attempt (exploiting directory traversal
flaw).
don`t know if spiderkid is part of linux kernel community and if that was a
breakin attempt or just a message to the bugzilla admins to fix the bugzilla
software. from what it looks, this bugzilla is possibly affected from
http://www.vuxml.org/freebsd/1d96305d-6ae6-11dd-91d5-000c29d47fd7.html (found
that after some googling for bugzilla directory traversal

we should forward that to the bugzilla admins - the problem is:
bugzilla.kernel.org shows no contact adress and i don`t know whom to tell.

--- Comment #35 from aran...@programmers.at 2009-03-22 13:04 ---
When booted with acpi_sleep=old_ordering, the screen does only contain some
garbage after resuming from S3. When pressing some keys, the garbage disappears
and the screen remains blank. The machine can be rebooted using sysrq.

acpi_sleep=s4_nonvs seems to not affect the machine at all.

Tests were performed on 2.6.28-rc9.

Andreas

--- Comment #26 from yakui.z...@intel.com 2009-03-22 20:00 ---
Hi, Palach
According to your test the box can be rebooted on the 2.6.18 vanilla
kernel. And it can't be rebooted on the 2.6.19 vanilla kernel. It seems that
this is a regression.

But it seems that there is no change about the file of reboot.c between
2.6.18 and 2.6.19 vanilla kernel.

So the better way is to use the git-bisect to identify the bad commit which
causes the regression.
git-bisect is one of the git tool set.
   Is the above clear?
Thanks.

reboot=p has no effect - the hanging still occurs.

reboot=b is the only boot option I've tried (p e) that seems to work. A quick
google search I just did turned up this:

http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:P8wuFKJjK4sJ:ftp.gnu.org/tmp/linux-libre-fsf2_2.6.28/linux-2.6.28/arch/x86/kernel/reboot.c+dell+dimension+9200+enable+acpicd=15hl=enct=clnkgl=usclient=firefox-a

The code below is copied from the above link - It is not included in my
/arch/x86/kernel/reboot.c file (2.6.28.8).
