From the test the issue is gone if KMS feature is enabled in kernel
configuration and I915 driver is loaded.
So IMO this is not a bug.

Hi, Rui
How about reject this bug?

A 4-byte write to an I/O port means four one-byte writes to
four consecutive I/O ports (although, this can be done in one machine

From our testing, Windows indeed is only allowing the single-byte write to
the (legal) port 0x80. The rest of the request is simply ignored.
In general, any part of an I/O request that overlaps the protected ports
is ignored. No error is returned.

We are updating ACPICA to match this behavior.

 Bob

As Bob said above, the attachment is the linux ACPICA patch.

Giovanni, would you please help to test this patch?
(only this patch, and do not apply the patch at comment #6)

Rafael, I think you should change this to WILL NOT FIX. Not only do we not
know the cause of the problem, it appears to manifest differently on different
systems.

For example, comment #32 says that it occurs only when the laptop is attached
to a docking station. Comment #24 says nothing about a docking station but
also says that the problem goes away when the EHCI wakeup attributes are
turned off. But in 2.6.30-rc1 those attributes should always be turned off by
default. Daniel, can you check to make sure they are?

--- Comment #3 from William Cattey w...@mit.edu 2009-04-10 18:01:07 ---
I'll run those tests.

I predict processor.max_cstate=1 will result in a working system, because this
is all about failure to receive interrupts when we're in C3 state.

Is there any particular config that is or is not appropriate for the acpidump?
IE will it be a valid dump if I take it on the system that has been booted
with acpi_skip_timer_override set? (I'm unfamiliar with acpidump, so I'm going
to guess that it's the table the BIOS sets with what should work in ACPI, and
that the output will be useful no matter what interrupt structure I've set.)

With BIOS setting, processor.maxcstate-=1, as expected, all was fine.
I'll note in passing that powertop showed the CPU spending most of its time
in C state 1.

With BIOS setting, nolapic_timer, the system mis-behaved the same way as in
the default setting. The boot sequence paused in initializing the Ethernet
hardware until I hit the power switch to provoke a few interrupts.

[Bug 12816] sony-laptop infunctional on Sony Vaio VGN-TT11/LN

2009-04-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12816

--- Comment #25 from Mattia Dongili malat...@linux.it 2009-04-11 02:44:09 ---
(In reply to comment #24)
I also have this laptop and have found similar problems to those listed above.
I'd be interested in helping out with any further testing.

did you try the proposed patch already?
Note also that that code (with additional fixes) is in 2.6.30-rc1

Also I have thus far not managed to get my 3G modem Options Globetrotter HSDPA
modem working, is it at all related to this driver? I believe it has to be
powered on in the same way

Yes, the current (2.6.30-rc1) sony-laptop should be able to power the modem on
and off.

Thanks
