[Bug 14216] DSDT/ACPI on Compal NTUC0 lacking multiple functionality

2009-09-24 Thread bugzilla-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14216

--- Comment #3 from Del delo...@gmail.com  2009-09-24 06:37:05 ---
As far as I am informed the custom DSDT patch was removed in kernel 2.6.30, and
users encouraged to report problems as bugs to linux.

So are you saying that the problems cannot be fixed by a custom DSDT file? Can
you confirm that the laptop is not ACPI compliant?

Hi, Jcat
Sorry for the late response.
Please double check whether the patch in comment #18 is applied.

From the screenshot it seems that it doesn't print the following info:
   ACPI: Look up EC in DSDT

If you tell me how to do the same with tracing instead of acpi, I can do -- but

 Will you please attach the output of acpidump/lspci -vxxx?

lspci-vvv.txt

 Please also attach the output of dmesg by adding the following boot options.
a. acpi=noirq

dmesg-acpi_noirq.txt

b. noapic

With the noapic parameter the boot will stop with:

tg3.c:v.98 (February 25, 2009)
tg3 :02:00.0: PCI INT A - GSI 0 (level, low) - IRQ 0

(In reply to comment #18)
 Yes, after setting the kernel parameter acpi=noirq the kernel boots and the
 network card is available. But in this case I can't use the usb devices.

That was my fault, the kernel was build without USB HID. Sorry for the
confusion.

 CC||awill...@redhat.com

--- Comment #34 from Adam Williamson awill...@redhat.com  2009-09-24 17:48:40

The fix which was applied for this issue has its own problem. It just assumes
the workaround should be applied to any Intel video adapter:

for_each_pci_dev(dev) {
if ((dev-class  8) != PCI_CLASS_DISPLAY_VGA)
continue;
if (dev-vendor != PCI_VENDOR_ID_INTEL)
continue;
pci_read_config_dword(dev, 0xfc, address);
if (!address)
continue;
return 1;
}

However, this also catches GMA 500 adapters, which don't use the Intel driver.
(If you're lucky), they use the psb driver, which doesn't behave like intel and
shouldn't have this 'workaround' applied. When it is applied, it causes psb not
to work right unless the workaround 'IgnoreACPI' X config option is set:

http://swiss.ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7781689postcount=17

so this check should be refined not to catch GMA 500 (and, possibly, Moorestown
in future, depending on how Moorestown is handled) adapters, I think. I'll see
if I can provide a refinement to do this.

update from mjg:

mjg59 adamw: It looks like it implements opregion, to be honest
mjg59 adamw: In which case the workaround is correct, but the poulsbo DRM
driver is deficient

(...confirmatory diagnosis)

mjg59 adamw: Would actually be pretty easy - you just need to pull in the
intel opregion code from the i915 drm, and change the backlight register writes
mjg59 Oh, and add support to the interrupt handler
mjg59 I've no idea how poulsbo would doorbell
mjg59 adamw: 0x7f6a3010 (the contents of PCI conf register 0xfc on your
device) is ACPI non-volatile storage
mjg59 adamw: So it certainly looks like opregion. You get to keep both
pieces.
mjg59 The kernel behaviour is correct, the poulsbo DRM is just shit. Sorry.

So, bottom line, opregion support should be patched into the poulsbo DRM
module. Which is theoretically possible, as that bit is actually open source. I
don't have the skills to do it, though. Just updating this bug for anyone who
stumbles across this so the correct info is here.

[Bug 14205] Intel DX58SO mainboard - powering off takes really long

2009-09-24 Thread bugzilla-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14205

--- Comment #10 from ykzhao yakui.z...@intel.com  2009-09-25 00:56:35 ---
Yes. This is the expected result.
The last step in poweroff/shutdown is to write 0x3C01 to 0x404 I/O port. In
such case the box can be poweroff/shutdown.

Please use the poweroff to see whether it still takes long time.

thanks.
