those packages are more than four months old. I can see at least one commit in
plasma-mobile repository that fixes a crash in code related to adding widgets.
Can you check if you can reproduce this crash using Kubuntu's live CD?

A fix for that is already in the pipeline, according to Sascha (who does the 
Balsam packaging).

What's the url of the packages you installed? The last time I checked the
Ubuntu's package for Plasma Active are a bit old, maybe this problem has
already been fixed.
