Querying results of scheduled commands

2004-05-03 Thread Eric Winters
TSM Server 5.2 on AIX 5.1
TSM Backup/Archive client 5.2 on Windows

We have a TSM schedule with an action of command which initiates a command
file on a Windows platform.
The command file starts a notes backup using TDP for Domino which runs
successfully. However, the schedule completes one second after starting,
although the actual notes backup has only just started.

I see from another posting that our problem lies with the fact that the
script is running asynchronously instead of synchronously ie control is
returned to the command file after STARTING the notes backup, not after the
backup has completed. However the notes backup script follows the
structure in the sample command file provided - I would have thought the
sample would be appropriately constructed to provide meaningful results to
the TSM Server. Can anyone suggest what steps need to be taken to get the
desired result?

This is the command file, domino.cmd.

set dom_dir=C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\domino
cd /d %dom_dir%
start /B domdsmc selective * /subdir=yes /adsmoptfile=dsm.daily.opt
/logfile=domdsm.daily.log dominc.daily.log

And here is the schedule

Policy Domain Name: DOMINO
Schedule Name: 1800_FULL
Description:
Action: Command
Options:
Objects: C:\domino.daily.cmd

What would I need to do for the script to complete AFTER the domdsmc
command has run (and therefore get a meaningful result in response to my q
event)?

Thanks for your ideas.

We used to run expiration during our daytime batch schedule. As our
database grew this became a problem. When we tried to run other processes
during expiration we ran into log pin problems. Our solution was to script
expiration so that it runs for one hour, every other hour, so we get around
12 hours of expiration run every day. This tipically results is several
completed expiration processes per day. Since doing this expiration issues
disappeared.

You will have to restore the inactive files to alternate directories.
You won't be able to put two files with the same name in the same
directory; otherwise, the second restore will overwrite the file (just
like any other OS).

There are half-a-dozen big sites, 50 medium, and 150 small. Most clients
are windows servers (no desktop) and novell/groupwise. We have comms to
all sites, but some of the more isolated ones are only 64Kb.

We intend to set up as centralized control and reporting as we can.

OK. Given that scenario, how many people will we need? What is the tsm

percentage of a person does it take to manage a medium size or small TSM

ANR1163W. Bug?!

2004-05-03 Thread Yury Us
Hi ALL,
I have found bunch strange messages recently in my act log ANR1163W Offsite
volume 758ABP still contains files which could not be moved..
When I did
  restore stg primary_pool copy=copy_pool preview=yes
it completed successfully after few seconds. No volumes requested to
restoring, like primary pool is consistent with copy pool.
I searched ADSM.ORG and found that in previous discussions about this
message were proposed variants to remove or audit offsite volumes or even
remove whole storage pool. I did not tried it yet, but before do that can
somebody tell me how to make sure that my primary pool is okay.

What is that, bug? May be somebody heard something about fixes?

I have AIX 4.3.3, adsm server 5.1.8. Clients are mixture of AIX,HP,Windows
on versions 5.1.5 and 5.2. The problem appeared during reclamation of
offsite storage.

Audit db usually takes 3+ days to complete with complete shutdown of all
backups. So should be really bad reason to stop the backup process.

Thank you in advance for any comments and ideas.

Yuriy.
