Re: TSM client 5.3.2.0 for Windows 2003 32-bit
Hi, I've tried to install the TSM client services (client scheduler, client acceptor and remote client agent) with the dsmcutil utility, like I'm doing all the time. The client acceptor service could not start because of problems to open particular registry keys. I've used the GUI setup wizard then and there was no problem anymore. Another problem was message 'ANS1327W The snapshot operation for C: failed with error code: 114'. The backup continues without snapshot support but with rc=12. Other messages like 'GatherWriterStatus(...pHrResultFailure)() failed with hr=VSS_E_WRITEERROR_NONRETRYABLE' are also in the dsmerror.log. This is because of a timing problem with OFS and 'domain all-local' and it is fixed in TSM client version 5.3.2.2, available after December 23rd 2005. Re: TSM 5.3 Pubs
As a matter of fact, I tried to install the docs webserver on an existing IIS site. The docs CD is built around Eclipse which is so complex that I gave up on stripping it for IIS. I tried installing the Eclipse Web Server on the same machine as IIS is running on. I had to use servany to do this. The Eclipse Server starts two processes: Java.exe and Javaw.exe. Everything works, but as soon as one logs on to the Windows server itself, one of the processes dies and Eclipse doesn't work no more. This seems to be a known 'feature' when running Java based webservers and I haven't been able to find a solution. I tried opening a PMR, asking how do I install the docs on an existing IIS server, but it was closed by IBM with the suggestion to post my question in an Eclipse Forum. It's the first ime I saw this kinf of error , any ideas where to search More information about the environmental context of the condition would help, but I believe it is the case that you are running the Web Client (which is actually a specialized Web server which performs TSM client functions on behalf of a remote browser session). To address the latter error set first: Modern Web browsers may ask the Web server for the Favorites Icon (favicon) that the site may have, which the browser will display alongside the URL in the address bar, and potentially store in Favorites if the page is bookmarked. But not all Web servers will either support or respond to a favicon request - particularly limited Web servers such at the TSM client. It is merely logging that. Such an entry appears when a Web browser is entering into session, prior to any user authentication associated with the session. The timing you see reflects the Web browser reattempting session initiation, possibly after having been cut off by the event reflected by the ANS message. The second error set is thus of no significance. Refer to your dsmwebcl.log to identify the session origin. The ANS1074W message is the thing to pursue. It's not one of our favorites, in that it tells us nothing which helps identify the problem. Look in the TSM server log for that time period. Often, the message is involved with mount point issues. I'd be interested to hear what you find in there. Richard Sims http://people.bu.edu/rbs

TSM client 5.3.2.0 for Windows
Hello all, I'm implementing a new Microsoft Cluster Server (Windows 2003 server) into our TSM environment. We are using a separate network for backup purposes with a separate backup NIC as well. The local TSM clients on each cluster node as well as the 'shared' TSM client's are having different tcp ip addresses like it's recommended in the documentation (client manual and redbook). After the password synchronization for all the TSM clients I've check their tcp ip addresses within the TSM servers node entires. From there I have seen that all the TSM clients are using the same ip address (the one from the local TSM client) to connect to the TSM server. Why don't the 'shared' TSM clients use the ip address that has been defined by parameter 'tcpclientaddress' within their dsm.opt files? Am I doing something wrong or misunderstand?
