q vol Issue with _some_ drm volumes
Hello everybody, I wonder why _some_ of my dbsnapshot-type drmvolumes can be queried with q vol and some don't (example ouput below). That occurres quite strange to me. Re: q vol Issue with _some_ drm volumes
Database back-up tapes don't belong to a storage pool, so won't show up on a q vol command. q drm s=dbs lists database snapshots and copypool volumes, so you found one of each. If you want to find only snapshots, use q volhist t=dbs On 4 mei 2009, at 13:19, Stephan Boldt wrote: Hello everybody, I wonder why _some_ of my dbsnapshot-type drmvolumes can be queried with q vol and some don't (example ouput below). Re: q vol Issue with _some_ drm volumes
Shame on me, you're right. 000302L2 is no dbs... q volhist t=dbs is what I intended to query... Subsequent question: Is there a way to do move a dbsnapshot from one volume to another? I want to get rid of a tape which we identified as the cause of library problems (barcode sometimes unreadable, slot assumed as empty, library tried to put other tapes into the tape's slot). Unfortunately it is currently in the vault with a dbsnapshot still on it. Is there a way to put to move the dbsnapshot to another tape, so I can get rid of the error prone tape right now and not having to wait for its snapshot to expire? (And probably missing the day it gets back into the lib and is being reused for eventually a dbsnapshot again) kind regards, Stephan On Mon, May 4, 2009 at 1:35 PM, Remco Post remco.p...@gmail.com wrote: q drm s=dbs lists database snapshots and copypool volumes, so you found one of each. LANFree to disk restore from deduplicated storage pool
Suppose I do a LANFree backup to a GPFS sequential disk storage pool, then deduplicate that pool. On restore, is the storage agent smart enough to access the deduplicated data, or will this turn into a LAN restore? Bill Mansfield

The answer is that, yes, the LANfree client is mart enough to do a LAN-free restore (so I've been told by IBM). Bill Mansfield -- Met vriendelijke groeten/Kind regards, Remco Post r.p...@plcs.nl
Linux Operating System excludes?
It seems that /dev is excluded on all of our Linux clients (but not Solaris or AIX) The directory doesn't even show in the GUI when attempting a backup. Re: Moving a dbsnapshot from one volume to another
You can't move it. You have to either - delete it from the volhistory and discard the tape. (losing the data on there) - Wait for it to expire. I would just put it in your desk, label it as destroy when expired. It won't mix in with the rest of the tapes, you have it just-in-case, and you'll find it eventually when you clean your desk.(Or take it home if you have an offsite requirement.) DR at cold site, best software FASTBACK?
We were advised the best option for TSM and disaster recovery at a cold site is to use Fastback. We have about 6 physical and 12 VMware Windows guests to restore from tape. Please advise. Regards, Orin Rehorst
