Re: Using TSM to backup Windows System State
IBM hold these things pretty regularly. The ones I have attended have been excelent. I'm Pretty sure if you email David Daun (djd...@us.ibm.com) he can add you to the notification list. They are also advertised on this list. Steven Hope in the future we can get more IBM webcast . I've just finished watching a recording of an IBM webcast by Andrew Raibeck and his colleagues on 'Using Tivoli Storage Manager to Backup Windows System State'. It offers a lot of insights into the System State backup process and the issues which can often surround it. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone on the list who has a requirement to backup Windows clients. Available to view again here: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27023299myns=swgtivmynp=OCSSGSG7mync=E Don't be put off by the duration - a lot of this is made up of Andy tirelessly answering questions from participants after the presentation was concluded. However I have no regrets about sitting through the full 2 hours because even the QA threw up some nuggets. My sincere thanks go to Andy and his colleagues (and IBM) for putting the time into supporting the user community in this way. Odd (or not) profile subscription issue
Hi all, I'm hoping we have some config manager experts here. I'm trying to resolve an issue where a distributed domain will not update after I've added a node to it (which I know should work). looking at the profile on the config manager the domain is there, but on the managed server it is not there. This particular policy domain was added after the subscription was setup. The local profile seems not to havve been updated since it was initially subscribed. Is that normal behavior? Should I have to re-subscribe if new stuff is associated with an existing policy? Thanks Steven

Re: dsmc in linux
Gents, the -optfile= option works very well In Linux if you're wanting to keep a consistent way of starting dsmc across platforms. It works well on every platform I support, AIX, Linux and Windows. 1st. as Remco said, create a new stanza in the dsm.sys file. 2nd. Create a new dsm.opt file with one line Servername NODENAME 3rd. run dsmc -optfile=dsm.new.opt or just use -se=NODENAME I use the -optfile option in my scripts, because it works well with the CAD and scheduler services, and you can add extra options or temp options in there as well. i.e.: dsmcad -optfile=/opt/Tivoli/tsm/client/config/dsm.special.opt See Ya' Howard Coles Jr. John 3:16! -Original Message- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU] On Behalf Of Tim Brown Sent: Tuesday, November 08, 2011 4:01 PM To: ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Subject: Re: [ADSM-L] dsmc in linux Thanks !!! -Original Message- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU] On Behalf Of Remco Post Sent: Tuesday, November 08, 2011 4:13 PM To: ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Subject: Re: dsmc in linux Hi, you have two options: 1- add an extra server stanza to dsm.sys, then run dsmc -se=newserver, or create an extra dsm.opt and set DSM_CONFIG to point to that dsm.opt 2- create an alternate dsm dircetory containing the dsm.sys, dsm.opt and a link to the languages and set DSM_DIR I think you're looking for option 1 On 8 nov. 2011, at 22:01, Tim Brown wrote: Is there an override in the linux backup command to access a different dsm.sys As there is in windows Windows Dsmc inc -optile=dsm1.opt Linux ./ dsmc inc -=dsm1.sys Thanks, Tim Brown Systems Specialist - Project Leader Central Hudson Gas Electric 284 South Ave Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 Email: tbr...@cenhud.com mailto:tbr...@cenhud.com Phone: 845-486-5643 Fax: 845-486-5921 Cell: 845-235-4255 This message contains confidential information and is only for the intended recipient.
