Does the userid running the GUI have the same authorization level as the
CLI that did the archive?

>>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2/12/2004 11:17:56 AM >>>
I'm running TSM 5.1.6 client on W2K.
TSM Server is v5.1.1.6 running on Unix.

I have archives running command line on the client.

When I try to retrieve thru the GUI, no archives are displayed.

Anyone have any ideas as to why??

Thanks,
 Pattie

We resently purchased a couple of sql server boxes for use in storing ESRI
GIS layers. This includes the storing of orthophotography images covering
our entire state. The orthos are stored in SQL Server with the initial load
creating a backup file 55 GBs in size. As we load more TIFs this backup
file will only grow.

According to the administrator of our backups the policy governing this
machine is set to maintain 60 versions of a file. I thought this was over
kill before but with SQL Server backups that will approach 100GBs our
backup server will probably drown in orthophoto backups.

My administrator states that the system can not be configured to retain x
number of versions of one file type and y number of versions for all others
. Are there any work arounds so that I don't have 60 versions of .bak files
while retaining that number for all other files?

Thank you,

restore of the local sam database

2003-07-08 Thread Eddie Jones
How do I restore my local sam from tsm?

Background:
TSM Server 5.1.6.3 on windows 2000 operating system.
TSM client 5.1.15 on a windows NT

This is in a test area without a domain controller and the two servers are
in a workgroup.
I tried restoring the security accounts manager database and security
policy database under system object->registry->hkey_local_machine. When I
did this It asked me to reboot the server and when I tried to log in it
said that the net logon service was not running.

Can anyone help?

deleting old files

2003-06-26 Thread Eddie Jones
Hey gang. I am running tsm 5.1.6.3 on a win2000 server. On my domino
server I am running the tdp client. While I was testing the backups and
restore I was backing the database and tranaction logs with the tdp client
and the tsm nt client. When testing was complete and the domino admin was
happy, I stopped backing up database files and the transaction logs with
the tsm nt client. Since I did not delete these files and I don't back
them up any more how can I delete them from my incremental tapes. Any help
on this would be appreciated.

Re: Schedule for the last day of the month...every month

I have some of my month end archives running on the last day of the month
also. I have a start date of 05/31/2003 or any previous month that

schedule will run on that day and then run on the 31 the next month.

I have a client that wants to do monthly backups on the last day of the
month. A co-worker did some testing and creating a schedule for say
5/31/3002 with PERU=MONTH. The June event gets scheduled for 6/30, but then
remains the 30th day from then on. Until Feb next year when it moves to the
29th.

Outside of creating a schedule for each month with a PERU=YEAR, is there a
way to do a schedule on the last day of every month??

TIA,

I was speaking with our TSM sales rep earlier today about ordering TSM
client software upgrades. She said that as of this past January, a factor
in the pricing of a client software license is whether or not the client is
a server or a desktop and, if a server, how many cpus it has. Has anyone
else heard anything about this?

 Thanks.

drive and library errors in event viewer

2003-06-11 Thread Eddie Jones
Hey gang. I have an odd situation. I am running tsm version 5.1.6.3 on a
windows 2000 compaq/hp dl580. When I do any activity on my tape libraries
(i.e. reclaim, moves or migration) I receive and error that the library
goes offline and then the first drive will go offline then I get a message
that says that the library and drive are back online. We reinstalled the
latest compaq/hp drives for the library and drives and scsi card. Does
anyone have any suggestions for me.

Thank you in advance.

restoring an nt domain controller and disaster recovery question

2003-05-29 Thread Eddie Jones
Hey gang. We are doing to our offsite disaster recovery in a couple of
months and I am in the middle of testing. These are a couple of questions
I have that hopefully someone might have some input on:

1. Is there anything special we need to do in restoring our domain
controller. Last year we restored the domain controller and we could see
the domain groups and user id's but the permissions on the client shares
did not work. The only way we could get users to connect is to maked
everyone a domain admin (not good).

2. After installing tsm on the server I set up my database volumes (60gb).
Usually I define the volumes which takes about 2 seconds per volume and
then I expand the database (45-60 min) before I restore the tsm database.
Is there I quicker way of doing this so I don't have to waist the 45-60min
expanding the database.

3. If anyone has any disaster recovery tips and advise that would be
great.

I am running TSM version 5.1.6.3 on win2000.
