help exporting client node to an other tsm instance

2009-02-03 Thread Gary Osullivan
I have 2 TSM server instances, I need to EXPORT a client node from instance
A to instance B .

Not sure what will happen to my file retention, backup versions since the 2
instances have very different mgmtclasses.

TSM server 5.4.2.0, \tsm client 5.4

Is the Policy Domain Name going to be a concern ?

tsm window cluster services manual or automatic.

2007-09-04 Thread Gary Osullivan
hi

We have successfully installed tsm client 5.3.3 on a windows cluster
environment + it is going well except for one small scheduling issue.

I set the tsm service(s) client acceptor, tsm scheduler service
startup type=MANUAL for all the cluster nodes.

For the purpose of failover I thought this was the way to go.

 EXAMPLE:

Client machine#1 goes down for x reason the resources shift to one of the
other available nodes in the cluster.

My schedule will run on the node that currently has the resource assigned.

PROBLEM:

If we are installing window patches + we reboot a node (the tsm schedule
services are not automatically restarted, We end up with missed schedule.

Can we run tsm window cluster backups with all the nodes (physical, virtual)
TSM services running in automatic mode ? (what is the negative).

ps: I'm using schedmode = prompted

tdpsql client 5.3 is it compatible on 32bit windows OS ?

2007-05-29 Thread Gary Osullivan
Anyone

I am in the process of installing tdpsql client on windows 32bit machine.

The install was easy for 5.2.1.6

It is a completely different story when I try to install tdpsql client 5.3.3 on
windows 32bit.

Is it compatible on 32bit or does (tdpsql client 5.3) only run on 64bit windows
?

You will never quess how many times I tried to reinstall.

I ' ve taken 3 cracks at it + still no luck.

exclude C:\ADSM.SYS\ASR

2007-04-10 Thread Gary Osullivan
hello list

TSM client(5.3.4.0) running on win2003

tsm incremental backup fails when trying to backup C:\ADSM.SYS\ASR

ANS1468E Backing up Automated System Recovery (ASR) files failed. No files
will be backed up

I realize that the ADSM.SYS\AS is part of BMR

For daily incremental backup of this machine should a simple exclude statement
in the DSM.OPT do the trick or should my daily incremental backup be able to
take a backup of this path.

I'm reluctant to EXCLUDE the directory only to find out latter that changes
were made + I do not have a copy.

tsm changed DOMAIN statement

2007-04-05 Thread Gary Osullivan
TSM users

Im using TSM 5.3 client on an win2000 machine

We have 2 backup schedules running on this client.
TSM SQL backup sched + a flat file backup.

In the flate file backup rather than using exclude.DIR to ignore(skip over
the SQL data) I have recently updated the DOMAIN statement
to point only to the drives that do not have SQL data.

question: What will happen to SLQ data that may have found it's way into the
backup on previous flat file backups.

With this recent change to the DOMAIN statement will I end up with orphan data
or will it mark the data for deletion.

This question comes up every so often. No, there are no command line parms
to do what you want. You would need to use an external tool to determine
which files you want to archive, then archive the specific files (or use
the external tool to build a file list that can be processed via the
-filelist option).

Before you take this on, have a look at APAR IC49009, because it might
possibly affect you.

Andy

tsm restore to different node using TSM GUI

2006-03-15 Thread Gary Osullivan
Hi Everybody,

I am running an old client level of tsm (5.1.6) for netware 6 sp5

TSM server aix 5.2.0

tivoli storage manger 5.3.0

When using the TSM gui I direct my restore destination to local attached
volumes.(basically I am restoring back to the original location).

Question: How can I take advantage of the option to restore to network
(restoring to a different node using the TSM GUI).

Presently this option is greyed out in the TSM gui

thanks, Gary

Re: Novell backups

2005-12-30 Thread Gary Osullivan
hi

The battle continues with the slow running tsm backups for netware.

-tsa is set at...20, no caching (any higher causes the backup to fail).
-The SAN is at raid 5 (7 disk, 1P)
-San disks are each 72Gb
-FC disks
-1gb FC connections
-Host bus adapter was the 1st thing we updated
-Our backup window is tight, We have several large tsm backup running at the
same time.
(the best that we can do is stagger the starting times).

Still looking for a way to shorten the backup time.

Thanks, Gary

In addition to what duane wanted to know, I would look at a couple other
things. In the sys:\etc\sms\tsa.cfg file, check these settings...

Enable Caching - should be no. tsm client already does read-ahead
caching, the tsa caching is redundant.

Cache Memory Threshold - should be set to as high as you can get away
with. 25% is the max. If backups give you errors with it set this
high, I usually move down in increments of 5% until errors stop
happening.

To make the above changes take affect, you'd have to unload dsmcad, run
smsstop, then reload everything.
To continue on with Duane's line of thinking, make sure that the hba's
in your server are at the latest firmware/driver versions. There's also
a post sp5 NSS patch available (nw6nss5c). Also, since it's
san-attached, how many other servers are attached to this san, and could
some of them also be running backups (or other things) at the same
time?

 [EMAIL PROTECTED] 12/29/2005 3:13:33 PM
The data only took 6.6 hours to transfer. To me it would look like the
process of scanning the filesystem is taking the majority of the time.

How are your san disks set up ? Raid 5 ? How many physical disks to
make
up a volume ? FC disk or sata ? 2gb FC connections ?
