SQL to find all NT nodes with V5.2.2.0

2005-02-23 Thread Hoa V Nguyen
Hi Folks,

I'm trying to list all NT nodes with TSM Client V5.2.2.0 from the server.
I have tried:

select node_name,platform_name,client_version,client_release,client_level
from nodes where client_version = 5 and client_release = 2 and
client_level = 2 and platform_name like 'WinNT'

but it didn't work,
please give me some hints.

Thanks for your help.

It would help to have some additional detail about what it didn't work

Is there a way to install/apply atldd 5.5.1.0 without bouncing TSM?

2004-11-18 Thread Hoa V Nguyen
Hi gurus,

I have deleted path then using smitty to
apply Atape 9.0.7.0 atldd 5.5.1.0 device driver.

Atape 9.0.7.0 went fine.
But atldd 5.5.1.0 failed because /dev/lmcp# is still available, can't
applied.

Until I bounced TSM and applied atldd again it was successfully.

Is there a way to install atldd without taking TSM down?

Hoa,

You'll find an article on Microsoft support web site
(http://support.microsoft.com), which may solve your problem : do a
search for 833167 and you'll be directed to an article about Time-out
errors occur in Volume Shadow Copy service writers, and shadow copies
are lost during backup and during times when there are high levels of
input/output. There is an associated patch you should ask them and
apply on your client. We did it and it solved the problem !
Cheers.

Your best bet would be a review of the Activity Log, which would show
TSM having problems with tapes - or drives. It may be that a marginal
tape drive is screwing up the Export, and that will show up in the
Activity Log as well as OS logs like the AIX Error Log (errpt cmd).
Your info above indicates that your tapes seem fine, so a drive problem
could be causing the exasperating termination of the long-running
Export.
If you can identify such a drive, do a Vary Off to keep it out of the
line-up.

Sandra,

For information about IBM certifications, see website
http://www-1.ibm.com/certify. There you will find information about
prerequisites, requirements, recommended education and publications,
sample tests, and more
or athttp://www-1.ibm.com/certify/certs/tvdpsm52.shtml

Then -- depending on your experience -- you can download the TSM CBT's
from the global Campus --
http://w3-3.ibm.com/education/lang_en_US/index.jsp

If you have been working with TSM for awhile -- then you could probably
skip the CBT's and focus on these 3 doc's:

1) TSM 5.2 Performance and tune guide, attached.
2) TSM 5.2 Implementation guide (get it from the redbook site, too big
can't attached).
3) TSM 5.2 IBM Tivoli Storage Management Concepts (again from Redbook:
ibm.com/redbooks SG24-4877-03).

Pricing for each test can vary depending on your geographical location and
testing site. Please contact the testing facility of choice directly to
determine the cost associated with each test.

For information about worldwide test locations, dates, sign up
instructions, and prices, refer to the Prometric web site at
http://www.2test.com, call 800-959-3926 (EXAM), or visit the VUE site at
http://www.vue.com . In addition, for testing outside of the United
States, please see the IBM Learning Services site (
http://www-3.ibm.com/services/learning/global/itprod/certify.html). You
can view these websites without committing to taking the exam.

There are so many Tivoli certification programs, you need to pick one and
you have to pass one test: some require 70%, some 61%,... and at any big
city will have a test place.
They just rent a place for you to come in to logon and to do the test
online. You may take as many times as you want, hopefully you only take
one time and pass. It cost $150.00 per time at my home town to take a
test. If you have an IBM promotion code you will get free test.

If you have more questions I can help, email me offline.

Hoa Nguyen.

Base on the recommendation of the: IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Performance

be 1/8 to 4/8 of the real memory (bootinfo -r or lsattr -El sys0 -a

Hi all,

I have a question for people that are administering simillar TSM system
like

TSM server on Sunfire 6800, 4x UltraSparcIII 1.2GHz, Solaris 5.9, Veritas
VM
3.5 MP3. Database and diskpools at HP512 disk array with 2x 2Gbit FC HBA
connect.
About 500 TSM nodes including fileservers, Oracle DB, MS Exchange, MS SQL.
About 800-1000GB daily data througput. TSM DB has 54GB allocated space and
about 80% utilization.

Now what is going about: there is about 4 milions examined and about 1
milion deleted objects (average values) during expiration process, which
takes about 3-4 hours every day. This means about 15000obj/min effective
speed, but I know, this value is greatly dependent on deleted object and
less on examined object. Here is last 20 days in table:

We are monitoring whole system day by day (CPU, disk groups I/O, memory,
network ...blablabla) and there is seen from these data, that CPU is
largely
loaded during backups (70-90%), but not during expiration (5-10%).
Database
disks have average activity about 0,5MByte/s read and 0,5Mbyte write
during
both backups and expiration, and about 12Mbyte/s read during TSM database
backup. But there is about 25% processing time waiting for I/O during both
backups and expiration. There is SELFTUNEBUFPOOLSIZE activated, bufferpool
is 131072 KB and last 2 months no increase was registered.

I have some other experiences on smaller TSM systems with different
configurations, on different hardware and platforms, but all these systems
are much more loaded during expiraton process than during backups. I want
to
ask, if somebody has system with similar sizing in production and if these
values (I mean low load affect of expiration process) seems OK, or what si
your expiriences with expirations. Am I supposed to find some bottlenecks
in
filesystem/OS/TSM settings? Or is this fenomen caused by size of TSM
environment and is it normal?

Thanks for any suggestions
