Re: Multisession backup to Container Pool - Session hang

2021-05-11 Thread Jansen, Jonas
Hi,

we are investigating a similar issue backing up HANA wit TDP 4 ERP to a AIX
7.1, TSM 8.1.11.100.
Support says: " It appears hdbbackint is waiting for a message from the the IBM
Spectrum Protect server by requesting recv from the server connection, but the
function call keeps returning EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable)."
I will keep you up to date...

OS: AIX 7.2

ISP version: 8.1.11.101

Last week I had several incidents with hanging sessions from TDP clients doing
a multisession backup in a directory container pool.

A problem like this was already fixed a few versions ago.

(APAR IT20858: MULTISTREAM BACKUP SESSIONS MAY HANG WHEN SAVING DATA INTO
DIRECTORY- OR CLOUD-CONTAINER STORAGE POOLS)

The problem has not occurred since the parameter was set via
"CheckInFlightChunks" via "setopt CheckInFlightChunks False".

Have any of you noticed such behavior?

Next Storage Pool of Container Storage Pool

2021-01-15 Thread Jansen, Jonas
Hello all,

we recently setup some container storage pools and used the ability to
define a tape pool as a next storage pool (I think this is new in 8.1.10).
As expected this, pool is used in case of an overflow.
Has anybody some experiences in bringing back those data, "swapped" into the
tape pool to the container storage pool?

Best regards
Jonas

Hi Stefan,

I have also talked about this feature with a server architect from IBM during

least for databases), so failover for backup would be a great enhancement. He
told me it's on the roadmap, but definitely not in the near future.

Re: Moving data in cloud storage pool

2020-04-06 Thread Jansen, Jonas
Hi,

I have head a similar requirement and asked the Support about it. They advised
to create another pool and use tiring to move the date.

" Hi Jonas,
thanks for your reply and patience on this case. I have checked your inquiry
regarding moving/migrating data from an existing S3 provider to another, via
Spectrum Protect server operations (so the DB can reflect the changes), however
it's not applicable at the moment. The workaround will be setting up a new
storage pool on the system, then tier the data from the old pool to the new one.
This way you can bypass the limitation and migrate the data successfully
So the way to do it (SP server 8.1.9 is required) is to enable an option (setopt
is fine no restart needed) called AllowTierTargetDir (just set it to YES or ON).
With that option enabled, they can define a tiering STGRULE with both a target
and and source pool as a container pool. Using that tiering STGRULE you can move
data from one container pool to the other (tiering is basically migration for
container pools). Without the option enabled, the target isn't allowed to be a
container pool.
Please find the link below for a tiering scenario with A step-by-step example

Hi,

I have to move data from a bucket in a cloud container storage pool that
unfortunately was created with the wrong owner.

I understand that I can't change the owner of the bucket directly (on the S3
level), neither can I copy the data to a new bucket in S3 and change the bucket
name of the cloud container storage pool to the new one in TSM.

Is really the last option that I have to lock the node, copy the contents of
the bucket into a temporary new bucket on the S3 level, delete the old bucket,
recreate it with the right owner and copy the whole data back?

Or does somebody have another idea?

Cloud system is on-premise Cloudian S3, if that matters. We have two regions,
but CRR is far too slow to be considered for this problem (the data amount is
fairly large).

you can use the VMMC and VMCTLMC options to use a differing management class.
Please have a look at the Docs

You definitively need to store your control files on a non tape storage. We

Do I create a new data mover node for this? How do I backup to a different

Hi guys!
We have always used a script to install the TSM client code on new Linux
clients. Since the server was upgraded to 7.1.8 (and thus are suffering from
the new security features) the script fails. The admin session which is
supposed to define the new node on the TSM server is rejected with the message
"ANR0404W Session 66 for administrator ADMIN (Linux x86-64) refused - client is
down-level with this server version.". This can be fixed once by a upd admin
ADMIN sessionsecurity=transitional at which point the certificate is exchanged
and the session is working again. But because the sessionsecurity is
immediately set to strict afterwards by TSM, the next time the script is run on
a different client, it fails again.
Has anybody been able to find some work-around for this?
