TDP for R3 uses two tapes in each session.

2002-01-09 Thread Jorge Rodriguez

Hi All...

I4m using TSM 4.2, TDP for R3 3.2.0.6 in a SAN environment. When the backup
with TDP begins, TSM mounts a tape and all the database data is backed up,
after the DB backup TSM dismounts the tape and mounts another one to backup
control data (logs, aff).

The second 100 GB LTO tape just have 500 KB of occupancy. It occurrs in the
same backup session. The backup is using two tapes in the same session.

Thanks for the help...

LTO 3584 in a SAN not use several drives in a session

I have the following, AIX 4.3.3 TSM Server 4.2.0 TSM Storage Agent 4.2.0 TSM Client 4.2.0 TDP for R3 3.2.0.6, LTO 3584 with 4 drives. The SAN fabric is with McData Directors ED-5000 and the LTO is connected to a McData ES-1000, and this conected to the director.

I can configure without problems the library and drives in the AIX and TSM, but I can4t use several drives in a backup session. I set Resourceutilization in 8, MaxNumMntPoint in 2 to use two drives, the StorageAgent opens several sessions but only mount a drive.

TDP for R3 on AIX with SAN

2001-10-30 Thread Jorge Rodriguez
Hi all...

I have the following: AIX 4.3.3 ML 9, TSM Server 4.2.0 TSM Client 4.2.0, TDP for SAP R3 Oracle 3.2.0.6 and the Storage Agent 4.2.0 in a SAN environmet using McData Director ED-5000 and LTO 3584 connected to McData ES-1000. The McData4s are interconnected.

When the Backup/Archive Client uses the SAN the performance is excellent, but when the TDP uses the SAN the performance is the worst. Using TDP, the SAN backup time is greater than LAN backup time.

What kind of tuning is necessary to do?. What results do you have using this environment?

Re: Server out of data storage space

It4s possible that the storage pool reached its maximun capacity while the backup was running and failed, and after this the expiration process began. It can be the reason witch the storage pool is not full.

Subject: Server out of data storage space

Hello all,
This morning I noticed a node still in session with the server, which just
finished after 9 hours. My first thought is that the switch setting has
changed because the NIC is still set to 100/Full. I need to have someone
check that, but I also found this.
A messag in the client log as follows:
10/03/2001 00:34:27 ANS1311E Server out of data storage space.
The log on the server has this message: 10/03/01 00:28:06 ANR0534W
Transaction failed for session 352 for node CP-ITS-DOMAPP01 (WinNT) - size
estimate exceeded and server is unable to obtain additional space in
storage
pool NOTES_DPOOL.
The disk pool is not full, not even close. And let's make things clear up
front, NOTHING has changed on the client or server. I do see the client is
still at a lower level version of 3.1.0.7. I know this is not a supported
client, and I have told them to upgrade, obviously with no luck so far.
The
server by the way is AIX 4.3.3 TSM 4.1.2.

Has anyone any experience with this. The disk pool is set to overflow to
tape when files are larger than 4GB. No tape mounts were noted. This has
worked fine since the server was brought online a few years ago.

I think it can be the level of B/A Client. Will the problem disappear if I migrate to B/A Client 4.1.2 ?.

Re: Setup for R3 TDP Problem

2001-09-26 Thread Jorge Rodriguez

There are two ways to manage the password in TDP for SAP. Manual and Automatic.

For Manual Password Handling:

DSM.SYS of the tdp_r3: passwordaccess prompt (Default Value).

initSID.utl: passwordrequired yes.

You need to define the node for tdp_r3 in TSM, and the node name is the same you use in the initSID.utl, and set the password for the node. After this run the following command:

AIX: backint -p /oracle/SID/dbs/initSID.utl -f password

NT: backint -p drive:\orant\database\initSID.utl -f password

The machine ask for the password.

Set the Expiration Password Period to .

Re: SAP backup

2001-09-24 Thread Jorge Rodriguez

You need to modify your initSID.utl and include this option:

BRARCHIVEMGTCLASS MC_SAPD00_LOG1 MC_SAPD00_LOG2

With this option you can do two redo logs copies.

Check the Sessions option. If you want two copies the Sessions must be
two, and the REDOLOG_COPIES must be two too.

The management classes that you specify must be created.

I hope this help...

Our first try with the SAP backup resulted in a failure because of only 2

maybe someone can explain. Why wouldn't the backup run and just start using
the 2 drives. Then when the other 2 came available it pick them up instead
of just failing?

Is there something I can tell the SAP people that will remedy this?

Is this a problem or just an information message?

Problem with nohup dsmc sched

2001-09-21 Thread Jorge Rodriguez
Hi...

I have AIX 4.3.3, TSM ver 4.2, TDP for SAP 3.1, I need to run the TSM scheduler daemon in the background, with the command nohup dsmc sched -pass=password . The scheduler begins its activities but the q ses shows the Session Status=IdleW, and not do any more.
The scheduler is type=command and the objects line has the following:

'su - root -c "/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/resp_brar_tsm", where resp_brar_tsm is the script with the commands of TDP for SAP to backup the Archive Redo Logs.

When I run the script manually it works, or when I run from the command line dsmc sched -pass=password it works too.

The problem is with the TSM scheduler daemon in background.

Hey, I was just wondering what version of TSM people are using in TSM land
that work with this config (or similar one)

IBM San DataGateway 2108 model G07 with scsi ports. ON those scsi port
there are 4 IBM 3590 drives. This is connected to a fibre channel switch
and then to an IBM 6227 card on a model h80 and h70 running AIX version
4.3.3.

Ok, so what version of these particular filesets are people using, that
works in a drive sharing config (where all 4 drives are seen and online on
both servers while they share this resource)

Thanks in advance.
